Accidentally in Love with the Best Friend -
Chapter 12.|Can't Handle It Anymore|

I clenched his fists and worked my jaw, unhappy with the direction of this conversation. “I’m trying to protect you, Harp! Whatever trash Nancy has been telling you is a lie. Yes, maybe I asked to see if she could go kiss Toby, but what I didn’t expect was for him to return it. And the other video? That one I asked Toby to tell about the situation, and that was where he took it. No editing whatsoever.” All I spoke was the truth, I don’t know why she had ever listened to that brat.
“I don’t believe you,” she seethed. Seth cried to be with her, to do nothing other than cradle her in our arms and assure her everything would be alright. “I thought I could trust you... but.. you’re just as bad as Toby. Or, as bad as I thought he was.” Her statement sent another wound through my heart, one I feared I would never be able to repair.
“Don’t,” and although my tone was harsh, I was trying my best to keep the broken look out of my eyes. But if she saw, at least she would see what I was going through.
“I don’t think we should be friends anymore.”
And just like that, my world shattered. I knew going into this that the consequences would be bad, but I wasn’t expecting her to go as far as take the friendship thing away as well. My coronation was seriously only two weeks away - what was I supposed to do now?!
Before I could wrap my mind around what was going on, Harper grabbed her friends hand before heading to the door of the building. Like hell I was letting her when she was thinking like this.
So, doing the only thing I could really think of, I chased after her, pinning her arms behind her back, before pulling her back against my chest. Although I quite liked the position, she was still mad at me, and tensed, before struggling in my arms.
“Just hear me out,” I whispered lowly in her ear, and watched as she stilled, a shiver running down her spine. Her friend, Carmela, watched with a disapproving look directed at me while Jeremy stood ready to pull her back if need be. “Why would I ever lie to you, Harp? I’ve known you since forever, and you happen to know exactly when I’m giving you false information.” I gave her a minute to think this through before continuing. “And Toby never denied any of the accusations, remember that? It was almost like he knew it was better to tell the truth than risk to be caught lying.”
She sighed, all struggling ceased as she spun around in my arms, coming face to face with me. My breath caught in my throat as I stared deeply into her eyes. This time, Harp leaned up to whisper something to me. “Don’t think that stating small technicalities will make me like you anymore than I do. I still hate you for the fact that you act like I’m some immature kid that needs to be taken care of.” She took advantage of my moment in shock to shove me away from her before she went to stand next to her friend.
Harper looked down, almost guiltily, and in that moment, I knew she knew I was telling her the truth. Finally!
“Look, I guess I’ll give you a chance back at the friend thing again. But you have to give me at least two weeks.”
In my moment of weakness, Seth broke through, storming off. He was done. Not mad necessarily at our mate, but more furious at me, for getting us into this situation. We had to let her know what we were in two weeks. There was no way she would ever be my Luna if I were to abide by her rules.
I heard Harp faintly calling my name in the background, but Seth was too angry to care. So angry, in fact, that he knew we had to get out of here now so that we could shift in the woods. Just as I picked up speed, making a beeline for the forest, Jeremy sent me a mind link.
‘I’m going to head back to the pack house. Don’t do anything stupid. Oh, and watch out, because Harper is following you.’
‘Okay, don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine.’
I kept running, following a path I knew too well. As I continued on, the distant sound of Harp calling my name continued to follow. Once I believed the coast was clear, I let Seth shift to help clear our head.
We reappeared as a large black wolf with stunning green eyes. Knowing full well that Harp would give up at nothing to replace us, we continued on. Seth took full control and went to the one place we usually use to calm down and cool off.
I just hadn’t realized Harp had followed me all the way even to here.
The only thing that truly gave it away was the shrill cry from behind me before I heard her drop to the ground, obviously from fainting.
Well, tonight was certainly going to be interesting.
