Chapter 2 Raynard Can’t Know This
Gwyneth couldn’t recall how she left the break room and returned to the conference. Her face turned as pale as a sheet.
Janine asked with concern, “Why is your face so pale? Are you feeling unwell?”
Janine had been friends with Gwyneth since junior high. Gwyneth’s eyes welled up with tears as soon as she heard Janine’s caring tone.
Seeing that Gwyneth was on the verge of tears, Janine glanced around nervously.
Making sure they were alone, she guided Gwyneth towards the bathroom and spoke in a hushed tone, “What’s wrong? Did Mr. Fletcher scold you?”
Inside the bathroom.
Once Janine locked the door, Gwyneth slumped to the floor.
Janine quickly came over, wrapping her arm around Gwyneth’s shoulders. “What’s happening? If Mr. Fletcher sees you like this, you’ll be in big trouble.”
Everyone knew how ruthless Raynard could be.
No matter how attractive a female employee might be, Raynard showed no mercy. Crying at work was considered a taboo.
Raynard had fired an entire department because a female employee cried due to a personal breakup.
The man had no sympathy.
Gwyneth was out of breath from her continuous crying. “Janine, I can’t afford to lose my job. I don’t want to leave Harbor City.”
“Wait. What did you do to upset Mr. Fletcher?” Janine asked anxiously, puzzled by Gwyneth’s vague words.
Gwyneth sobbed, “I…I slept with him!”
Janine was shocked.
Her worried expression froze.
In the bathroom, only Gwyneth’s sobbing could be heard.
A minute later.
Janine finally recovered from the shocking revelation. “What? What did you say? I don’t think I heard you correctly.”
She wondered if there was some misunderstanding in the bathroom. Why would she have such hallucinations?
“I stayed in his room last night,” Gwyneth clarified to Janine.
Silence filled the room again.
Janine’s lips twitched. “So…you slept with Mr. Fletcher?”
She wasn’t sure if Gwyneth was telling the truth. If so, it would be a disaster.
Countless women had attempted to seduce Raynard over the years, but none of them had fared well.
Women who approached Raynard, claiming to be carrying his children and asking him to marry them, often ended up in a hospital.
Gwyneth had been hired by the company on Janine’s recommendation. If Raynard found out, even the Hart family could face trouble.
Janine recoiled in shock. “Gwyneth, how could you?”
To avoid any collateral damage, she quickly distanced herself from Gwyneth, maintaining a three-meter gap between them.
Gwyneth cried harder over Janine’s actions.
Recalling the blurry memories from last night, Gwyneth said, “I didn’t know what was going on either. When people asked Mr. Fletcher to drink, I had three glasses to help. Then it went out of hand.”
“Out of hand? Don’t tell me that you threw yourself at him.”
Janine was stunned.
Raynard was the dream man for every woman in the company. Yet, nobody dared to seduce him because of his mercilessness.
Janine couldn’t believe that Gwyneth was brave enough to…
She tried her best to calm her thumping heart. “You’ve worked by his side for three years. You should know the best that he’s off-limits.”
More tears rolled down Gwyneth’s cheeks and her head was a mess.
Looking at the sobbing mess on the floor, nobody could tell she was the horny woman who pinned Raynard to the bed last night. “What should I do? He commanded me to replace the rapist in 24 hours.”
Gwyneth couldn’t turn herself in as the outcome was unthinkable.
Janine grew more confused. “What do you mean? He doesn’t know you’re the rapist?”
So, Raynard ordered Gwyneth to replace the culprit without knowing that Gwyneth was the person he was looking for.
Gwyneth could hardly breathe at that moment.
She had always been a reserved girl. Looking at how frightened she was, Janine couldn’t comprehend how she had found the courage to sleep with Raynard last night.
However, Janine didn’t have time to think as it was an emergency. “Are you sure he doesn’t recognize you?”
Gwyneth nodded firmly. “Yes.”
He wouldn’t have instructed her to search for the person if he had recognized her.
Janine relaxed slightly and thought, “This is good. Otherwise, my family could be in trouble too.”
“That’s easy.”
Janine opened the door, glanced around to ensure they were alone, and then locked it again.
She then leaned down to whisper in Gwyneth’s ear.
After hearing Janine’s idea, Gwyneth looked at her worriedly. “Are you sure it’s going to work?”
“That’s the only way. Hurry up. We don’t have much time.”
Janine dragged Gwyneth off the floor, and the two sneaked into the control room.
Two hours later, Raynard finished his speech.
Gwyneth took the paper from his hands humbly and followed him to the break room.
In the break room, Gwyneth stood up straight and reported to Raynard like a robot, “Mr. Fletcher, I’ve finished the investigation.”
Sitting on the couch, Raynard gave her a cold look.
Despite the cold sweat rolling down her spine, Gwyneth forced herself to act normal.
She said calmly, “I went to the control room to review the surveillance footage. Last night, no one entered the room after I brought you back. I believe the pendant belongs to a previous guest.”
