Chapter 39

Asher looked at Elara. "Is that so?"

"Yes. Don't you believe me?" Elara nodded, her eyes dripping with sincerity.

Asher looked at her. He couldn't tell if she was being truthful or not.

Just then, his phone rang. He took out his phone and saw that Daphne had sent him a message. (Asher, have you finished your homework? There's a question I don't quite understand. Could you explain it to me?]

Asher got close to Daphne because she often asked him questions before. She was already doing well academically, yet she still sought his help, which naturally made Asher feel a great sense of accomplishment and fully satisfied his pride. During the last two days, she ignored him due to their quarrel.

Elara originally thought they had broken up in the morning. Unexpectedly, Daphine texted now.

Elara leaned over. Glancing at Asher's phone, she saw the message.

She read it out in Daphne's tone directly. "Asher, have you finished your homework? There's a question I don't quite understand. Could you explain it to me, please?"

The last part was her improvisation.

Asher glared at her and quickly turned off his phone screen. He looked at Elara, feeling a bit annoyed. "Why were you peeping at my phone?"

Elara said, "Umm... She texted you. Does that mean she forgives you?"

It really was quick. Once I severed ties with Asher, she broke up with him. Now that she sees me getting closer to him, she immediately starts flirting with him. So gross... she said inwardly.

Asher felt a bit uncomfortable as Elara was so concerned about his relationship with Daphne. "We were always fine."

Then why did you come back with me today?"

Asher was left speechless.

"She's looking for you. Hurry up and make up with her!"

'She's playing you like a fool. Humph!' Elara sneered inwardly,

Asher looked at her, asking with caution, "What does it have to do with you whether I make up with her or not?"

Im just caring about you." Elara looked at Asher and asked, "Tell me, why did she immediately send a message to make up with you as soon as you came to my home?"

Asher recalled what Daphne had told him. She had asked him to pretend to be with Elara and even pretended to break up with him. In all these years, Daphine was not like this in Asher's heart. She was an innocent angel and would never have such ideas. But now, recalling what she had said and seeing her message, Asher was quite surprised.

He glanced at Elara and explained for Daphne, "She is not like that. She probably just couldn't work out the question."

"Okay. What a coincidence! Seeing through his stubborn stance Elara ignored him and went back upstairs to rest. Asher also returned to his room, replied to Daphne's message, and asked her to send the problem over. 42%

Chapter 39

He explained the problem-solving approach, and as usual, Daphine worked it out after he explained it once.

After that, they chatted for a bit.

Daphine sent. I was a bit impatient this morning. You're not mad at me, are you?]

[No.] Asher clenched his teeth.

Daphne: [Asher... I really like you so much. I worry about you every day, and thinking about your injury, I feel more pain than anyone else....

Asher made no response.

Daphne: I've always believed that liking someone means prioritizing their well-being. Now that you're with Elara, it's great. After all, it wasn't easy for her to accept you, so don't make her angry anymore, okay?] Hearing Elara's name repeatedly from her, Asher couldn't help but wonder if the person she liked was him or Elara. It might be better for her to just be with Elara. He didn't reply to her message and went straight to bed.

In the morning. Asher had breakfast at home with Elara. Barrett was also present.

Monica walked over, saying, "Mr. Kensington, time to leave,

"Okay," Barrett said, glancing at Elara and Asher. I'm leaving first Take your

"Okay, Dad, see you," Elara nodded.

Barrett walked out, with Monica following behind him..

Monica adjusted her glasses, looking at him. "You didn't seem to like Asher before, did you?"

"He's talented." Barrett found Asher to be a thoughtful and insightful young man during their conversation.

He

got in the car and added, "If he can join the company after graduation and help Elara manage it, he'd be a good. candidate."

I only had one daughter. Eventually, all of us old folks in the company would have to step aside. Elara couldn't do without someone to assist her. In the past, Asher was a bit unclear about his place. But... If he could be properly guided, he'd make a good help. No one in this world will be unconditionally loyal to you. Everyone has weaknesses and flaws, he said inwardly.

"What about Mr. Hawthorne?" Monica asked again

"Lysander is different. Barrett had a clear understanding of Lysander's background. "He will eventually return to Starfield City. How could he ever look up to my small company? He has his own business to do."

"Aren't you afraid that he might have some thoughts about the matter with Asher?"

"If a man doesn't even have the most basic confidence in front of his love rival. Even if Elara were with him in the future, her life wouldn't be easy. While they haven't gotten together yet, it's the perfect time to see his character." Monica nodded and remained silent.

Elara and Asher went to school together. Today, Asher didn't get off the car early but arrived at school with Elara.

Sitting in the car, Elara looked at him. "You don't seem to mind being seen with me at all."

Chapter 39

"You're happy being with me aren't you?"

"I have zero interest in a guy who already has a girlfriend. I'm terrified of being called the other woman."

"He claims to have a girlfriend, yet he has no qualms about hitching a ride in my car. Interesting Elara complained inwardly.

Asher ignored her and got out of the car.

Elara followed suit.

When the students saw the two of them together again but without Dapline, they wondered if Asher had dumped Daphne for Elara. Instantly, they guessed that Asher was somewhat like a kept man and felt a bit of contempt for him. The two entered the classroom.

When Daphne saw Asher, her eyes were gentle as a breeze, completely devoid of the coldness of yesterday.

Meeting her gaze, Asher did not respond as he usually did.

Only after Elara sat down did he take a seat beside her. His cold expression startled Daphne.

Why do I feel Asher is unhappy? Is he angry with me?' she wondered.

This went on for several days. Every day, Asher followed Elara closely, especially in front of Daphne, showing Elara -boundless enthusiasm.

Though aware he was just using her as a pawn to provoke Daphne. Elara couldn't be bothered to argue. She was eager for others to see Asher acting like a sycophant in front of her.

At noon, she returned from lunch with classmates from the neighboring class and saw Asher heading toward the small woods. She walked over and found Daphne standing there. SEND GIFT
