Chapter 60

"Why don't you celebrate your birthday?" Elara had assumed tha Lysander simply hadn't mentioned it because he didn't see her as a friend. To her surprise, it turned out that he didn't celebrate his birthday at all. When the subject came up, Lysander's expression turned somewhat complicated. After a moment of silence, he finally spoke. "My mother passed away on my birthday"

Since Elara had asked, Lysander didn't want to hide the truth from her. Elara was momentarily stunned, then quickly said, Tm sorry. I didn't know."

Lysander looked at her and replied, "It's okay. I don't mind talking about it with you. That simple statement was enough to show how much Lysander trusted her.

Elara didn't press him further. While they were eating. Barrett called. Elara set down her fork and answered the phone. "Hello, Dad?

Barrett asked, "You're not home yet?"

Thinking of the landslide, he couldn't wait to see Elara, but she still hadn't returned. So, Barrett had no choice but to call her.

Elara responded, Tm out having dinner with Lysander."

Lysander glanced up at her. Elara then asked, "Have you eaten yet?

Knowing her father was still recovering from his injury, Elara was quite concerned about his health. Barrett replied, "T haven't eaten yet. I was actually waiting for you to come home."

"You don't need to wait for me. Go ahead and cat. I'm almost done, and I'll be back soon." Elara reassured him.

With exams coming up, Elara had been under a lot of pressure lately. Even though Lysander kept telling her that with her abilities, passing wouldn't be a problem, Elara couldn't help but remember what had happened before the time travel Now that exams were approaching, having a nice meal to relax seemed like the right thing to do. After ending the call, she explained to Lysander, "It was my dad on the phone."

Normally, when she stayed out late, Barrett rarely questioned her. It was even more unusual for him to call and check on her. Elara figured it had to do with the same issue, Fortunately, when they f

dinner, Lysander didn't press her about the call or ask further questions, When Elara

returned home, it was Monica who opened the door for her.

"Miss Kensington, you're back." Monica seemed unusually enthusiastic today. The way she looked at Elara wasn't as cold as it had been before. "Good evening," Elara greeted.

"I'm sorry." Monica suddenly said.

Elara looked at her, puzzled, "What are you apologizing for?"

Tused to think it was your fault that Mr. Kensington got hurt, and I held that against you. But now, I realize I was wrong." Monica explained.

"It's not your fault. You were just worried about my dad," Elara replied with a smile. Monica had been hurt in the incident as well. Elara wasn't the type to hold a grudge over something like that When she stepped into the living room, she found her father waiting for her, Seeing that she was alone,

Barrett asked

"Lysander didn't come in with you?"

Elara answered, "He dropped me off at the door and left. Dad, what did you need to talk to me about?"

Barrett gazed at her with a complicated expression.

So, it's about that, Elara thought. Judging by his look, she had a good idea of what was coming

Elara had assumed Barrett would ask her about something specific, but when he finally spoke, his words were a surprising concern about her grades. "How's your exam preparation going bitely?" Elara looked at her father and replied, "Not bad, Lysander has been tutoring me a lot.

Since Lysander already had a guaranteed admission spot, he didn't care too much about his own grades, so his focus had been entirely on helping Elara

Barrett commented, "Lysander has been really good to you."

Elara nodded. "Yes."

"You should get some rest." Elara gave her father a curious look as he suggested she go to bed. "Didn't you have something to talk about?"-

Otherwise, Barrett wouldn't have called her to come home.

Barrett gazed at her, his expression complicated. "There's nothing much to ask anymore. I originally wanted to talk about the highway landslide. If it hadn't been for you, I might have..." Elara quickly interjected, "Dad, it's because you trust me. I just said I had a dream, and you were willing to believe me."

If Barrett hadn't trusted her and had just dismissed her words as childish nonsense, he might not have been able to avoid the disaster.

Dad really is the one person in this world who cares about me the most, she thought to herself.

Once Barrell's issue was resolved, Elara could focus on preparing for her exams. By the time Elara sat for the SATS, Barrett's health had improved significantly.

He even accompanied her to the exam and waited outside the school gates the entire time.

Although Barrett didn't care much about whether his daughter got into a prestigious college, seeing how hard she had worked for this, as her father, he wanted to be there to cheer her on.

Coincidentally, Daphne was in the same exam hall as Elara and Lizzie As they arrived, they saw the Kensington family's car parked outside the gate.

When they arrived, they saw the Shen family's car parked at the entrance. Elara stepped out of the car, and Barrett gave her a supportive hug. "Good luck."

Lizzie nudged Daphne to look. "Isn't that Elara? And that old man came to accompany, her for the exam."

There had been rumors circulating at school about Elara being kept by an older man, but Elara never bothered to explain herself.

Since Elara was often seen with Lysander, people didn't dare to say much.

But now, seeing this older man accompany her, Daphne couldnt help but watch with a bit of schadenfreude. I wonder if

Lysander knows about this-She's being pretty careless. If Lysander replaces out, what if he dumps her?"

Lizzie added, "He definitely doesn't know. Otherwise, do you think he'd put up with it?

As she spoke, Lizzie took out her phone and snapped a photo. Daphne glanced at her. "What are you doing?"

64%)

"Of course, I'm keeping evidence. Once Lysander sees this, let's see if he still stays with Elara, Lizzie sail, a hint of mischief in her voice.

Even though they didn't attend the same school as Lysander, they had friends at Oakridge High School who could help.

them out.

After taking the picture, Lizzie sent it out, and soon enough, it reached Crispin.

Crispin forwarded the photo to Lysander, saying, "Lysander, take a look. Is this Elara?"

Lysander glanced at the image and replied, "Yeala.""

"She's sneaking around with some old man behind your back. Isn't that too much?" Crispin had never met Elara's father and obviously didn't know who he was. Naturally, after seeing the photo circulate and knowing how Lysander had been chasing after Elara, Crispin couldn't let him stay in the dark.

Crispin had previously believed that Elara was being unfairly judged, but now, seeing this, he wasn't so sure.

Lysander stared at the photo and asked Crispin, "Who sent you this?"

"I heard it came from someone at Crestview Senior High," Crispin

answered.

"Then go replace out the truth," Lysander ordered.

"Got it, Lysander." Crispin, of course, followed Lysander's instructions without hesitation.

On June 9th, the school held its graduation ceremony, and Barrett was invited as a representative of the parents.

During her senior year, Elara had made significant progress in her academics. Additionally, Barrett had been supporting students in need and held a respected position in Brookfield

Before Elara left for the event, Barrett had already changed outfits several times. "Elara, how do you think I look in this suit?" Elara couldn't help but chuckle. "Dad, you're just attending a parent-teacher event. There's no need to be so serious."

"I can't embarrass you," Barrett said earnestly. "You're such an outstanding daughter, and I'm really proud of you."

In the past, when Elara's teachers called Barrett, it was usually to tell him how poorly she was doing in school and that he needed to intervene.

Now, the teachers frequently called Barrett to praise Elara, and it was something he wasn't quite used to.

Seeing her father acting like this, Elara couldn't help but joke. "You've changed outfits several times already. I think they all look good. If you keep going, I'm going to leave without you.

Barrett responded, "You go on ahead. I'll be right behind you once I'm done. I think I'll change again"

With that, he went back to his room to change clothes once more

Elara had no choice but to head to the school by herself. No sooner had she arrived when curious look. "Elara, does Lysander know about you being kept by an older man?"
