Elara was puzzled by his words. "What am I so proud of?"

Asher replied, "Last night at the graduation party, you stole the spotlight and made Daphne and me look like fools. Aren't you proud of yourself?" Hearing this, Elara stood up, gazing at the man in front of her. So, Asher, are you trying to take your frustrations out on me

now?"

Asher glared at her, remaining silent. His silence seemed to confirm her suspicion. Elara looked at hirm, surprised by how. shameless he could be.

"What did Leven do last night? As far as I remember, I didn't do anything. Didn't you already distance yourself from Lizzie? she said.

"You know that's not what I'm talking about" Asher shot back.

"Then what are you talking about?" Elara asked, pretending to think hard for a moment. "Oh, wait. Is it about your dad trying to break you and Daphne up, wanting me to get with you, and me not agreeing to it?" Asher replied, "You could've just pretended to agree. My dad was just throwing it out there. If you'd played along, would he have made a big deal out of it?"

Asher said this with a tone that made it clear he felt completely justified.

Elara looked at him in disbelief, "Why on earth would I pretend to agree?"

"You couldn't even give me that little bit of dignity?" Asher asked clearly irritated.

"And why exactly do I owe you any dignity?" Elara questioned coldly and wondered, "Who does he think he is?

"We've known each other for so many years." Asher shot back, his frustration bubbling over.

He had never hated her as much as he did right now. "You just had to make it so final, didn't you? You had to drag Lysander into it and show him off in front of everyone."

"You just had to let the whole world know you've got Lysander now, that you're too good for me. You wanted to humiliate me, didn't you? To see me embarrassed, that makes you happy? His voice grew louder as his anger built. Elara stood there, looking at him for a few seconds in silence. Then, slowly, she came to a realization. So, he felt embarrassed, and somehow it became her fault for not saving his dignity.

She chuckled softly, amused at the absurdity of it all. But Asher wasn't done, his gaze still burning with resentment. "You could've easily kept quiet about me and Daphne.

"If you hadn't said anything, my dad wouldn't have reacted the way he did, and there wouldn't have been any conflict with the Wagner family. You did that on purpose, didn't you?"

Elara thought for a moment, then nodded. "Oh, well, in that case, yeah, I definitely did it on purpose."

"You Asher was stunned. He hadn't expected her to admit it so openly, let alone with such confidence.

Elara remained composed. "I don't think I did anything wrong. Io genuinely like Lysander more. I really do think you're beneath me.

"And I absolutely do not want anyone to think I have any sort of future with you. I especially don't want them thinking I used my power to take you away from Daphne." Chapter 67

"Elara..." Asher's voice softened with disappointment as he looked at her.

"The old you would've never been this selfish," he said bitterly. "You used to think about my feelings. You never did things that would embarrass me. But ever since you got with Lysander, I barely recognize you anymore." That's because the old me liked you," Elara said, her eyes cold and unyielding. "The current me would rather see you and Daphne dead together."

Asher, seeing the bitterness in her eyes, accused her sharply. "You just can't stand seeing me happy with Daphne.

"If you love someone, you should want to see them happy. But you? You just want to destroy the people you claim to love. Anyone who catches your eye is truly cursed."

"Oh, how terribly unlucky for you then. Elara shot back, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

His words reminded her of the moment before her death when Asher had said, "Every single day of my life with you is a nightmare. And now, he was saying that anyone she cared about was truly unlucky.

Asher continued, "Someone like you will never replace happiness. Even if Lysander stays with you for now, it's only a matter of time before you drive him insane too. He just hasn't figured you out yet." With that, Asher turned and walked through the door. Elara watched him walk away, laughing in disbelief

"Seriously? He's the one who's a scumbag she thought. 'And now he's trying to turn it around and make it about me! Dragging Lysander into this too? Is there no limit to his shamelessness?"

Not wanting to waste more time outside, Elara followed him inside as well. Barrett descended the stairs as they entered Asher, seeing him, greeted him politely. "Hi, Mr. Kensington

Oh, now he can pretend to be the perfect gentleman in front of my father, Elara wondered,

Barrett nodded. "Have a seat."

Asher, glancing briefly at Elara, asked, "Is there something you wanted to talk to me about?"

Did Elara complain about me to her father? Is that why he called me here to cause trouble?' Asher wondered, but then Barrett said, "Your father was here earlier today!"

Asher stood up immediately, looking regretful. Tm sorry. That's just how he is. He said some inappropriate things in front of everyone yesterday. I talked to him about it when I got home Having a father like his was deeply embarrassing for Asher, Unfortunately, one didn't get to choose their parents or the circumstances of their birth.

Earlier today, he had checked his phone and saw that Daphne had blocked him. After what his father had pulled last night, it made sense.

Barrett continued, "Your father is who he is. It's not easy for you, following in his footsteps. The main reason I called you here today, though, is to talk to you about your mother."

"My mother?" At the mention of his mother, Asher's attention sharpened instantly.

Barrett said, "I've seen your academic record. You'll have no problem getting into Queensun University. I've met your mother before, and she mentioned that if you end up in Starfield City, you can reach out to her. She asked me to pass her contact information to you," Asher hadn't had any contact with his mother in a long time. Ever since his parents' divorce, they had completely cut ties.

Barrett had met her in Starfield City. She had asked about Asher, but Jefferson had forbidden her from seeing her son. All 10:55 Thu, Nov

she could do was ask Barrett to pass along her message.

Hearing this, Asher's eyes reddened, filled with emotion. Elara looked at him, recalling how he had reacted the same way when he first learned about his mother.

It had been during winter break. Afterward, he went to Starfield City, but she didn't know what had happened there. He returned home before Christmas was even over. Elara felt reassured, knowing that his journey to reconnect with his mother likely hadn't gone smoothly.

Asher gathered his things and left. Barrett turned to Elara, noticing she was sitting nearby. "Have you confirmed when Lysander is heading back to Starfield City?" "Friday," she replied.

"Are you going with him?" he asked.

Elara nodded. "Yeah, Dad, do you want to come with us?"

Barrett answered, "You and Lysander should go ahead. I'll finish up things here and join you later."

"That works," Elara said. "But I'd like to take Cotton with me when I go."

TII make arrangements for that." Barrett assured her.

Fara started attending school in Starfield City, she wouldn't be coming back here very often. It would be easier to send Cotton over directly.

Elara had lived in Starfield City for a while before, so moving back wouldn't be a hassle. Just a few days after Elara moved in Asher came over.

In the afternoon, Elara visited Harold's estate. As she passed by, she spotted Asher. Asher was wearing a white T-shirt, and having a meal with his family.

Since she had met Asher's mother before, she recognized her immediately. Besides Asher, his mother had another daughter, who looked to be around ten years old. Watching his mother treat his sister kindly, it was clear that Asher felt out of place sitting next to them.

"Hi, Elara." As Elara was focused on them, Uncle Harold walked over and called her name.

Asher glanced up from his meal when he heard his name and saw Elara. She was wearing a dress and sunglasses, walking away with Harold.

Harold noticed her and asked, "What were you just looking at?"

"I saw that Mrs. Shawn I met before," she said.

"You seem quite concerned about her, he remarked.

Elara replied, "She's Asher's mother."

Harold was already aware of Asher. When Elara mentioned her, he understood immediately. He looked at Elara and said. "He's better off, really, much better than Lysander."

Elara shot a glance at Harold. "Lysander is already on his way and will be here soon. How could Asher compare to him? Uncle Harold, you're being ridiculous

"No way." Harold said, incredulously gazing at Elara. "So, you didn't take my advice to heart last time? I told you not to be
