Chapter 623

“I won't speak in riddles." Mrs. Ritter laughed elegantly, but herupturned eyes revealed a haughty indifference. "My daughter AshlynRitter was accepted into film school this year, but she previouslymajored in piano. Despite hiring countless teachers over the years, herpiano skills have not improved much.”

"So... you want..." Jenna's lips trembled, but she didn't finish hersentence.

"Yes, I want Master Keturah to teach her and become her mentor,” Mrs.Ritter scanned Brayden and Jenna up and down. “So if you can helpme make this happen, I will use the influence of the Ritter family tosave Cody's life. What do you think?"

Jenna's heart was pounding. She spoke in an undertone, "But MasterKeturah doesn't easily take on students.”

“That's why you need to talk to her," Mrs. Ritter smiled again. "It's justabout trading favors. "For Master Keturabh, it is just taking on a student. For me, itis just using the power of the Ritter family.”

"If you can't make it happen, no one could save Cody's life," Mrs. Rittersneered at them.

For Mrs. Ritter, they were from a small town, and she wouldn't havemet them personally if they hadn't had connections with MasterKeturah.

"Mrs. Ritter... I..." Jenna bit her lip." don't want to use Master Keturahfor my own benefit. Can you make another offer?"

Mrs. Riter curled up a mocking smile as if hearing a big joke, "Humaninteraction is all about mutual benefit, isn't it?"

"But Master Keturah has never used me... or Brayden or Mrs. Wright..."Jenna knew that what she thought was naive. But she didn't want tolose Sylvia's trust. Sylvia had believed in and loved her beyond whatany relative could offer. If Jenna used Sylvia, Sylvia would be sad...She also didn't want to disappoint Sylvia. Sylvia had been so good toher. How could she have the heart to make use of Sylvia?

"Miss Shepherd, I advise you not to refuse me outright,” Mrs. Ritterlazily glanced at her. It was rare to see such a naive girl being protectedso well these days.

In Mrs. Ritter's eyes, Jenna was no different from an idiot at thismoment.

Jenna wanted to say something more but was pulled back by Brayden. She bit her lip and lowered her head in resignation.

"Mrs. Ritter, can we consider it?" Brayden suppressed his impatienceand spoke calmly.

"Sure, but time waits for no one. I hope you won't take too long sinceyour father's fate is uncertain." Mrs. Ritter picked up the tea on thetable and took a sip before continuing, "Master Keturah has a greatreputation, so there will be many people with ulterior motives who wantto benefit from knowing you."

"So it's best if you act quickly. Don't make me lose my patience whilewaiting for your decision.”

After speaking, Mrs. Ritter stood up gracefully and adjusted her shawlbefore saying, "Contact me when you've made a decision.”

The door opened as the lobby manager respectfully escorted her out ofthe room.

Brayden finished his tea in one gulp before grabbing Jenna's hand andsaying, “Let's go."

As they left the private room, Jenna still looked pale with worry writtenall over her face as she asked Brayden, "What should we do now?"“Let's go back to our hotel first," Brayden replied with a forced smile ashe rubbed Jenna's hair affectionately, "You did well earlier whenconfronting Mrs. Ritter!" He was surprised by how brave she had beenwhile standing up against someone like that woman earlier on.

"What should we do next? Are we going to replace Miss Andrews?" Jennaasked hesitantly.

"Jenna, whether or not Sylvia takes us under her wing is entirely up toher decision; none of us can make that choice for her," Braydenexplained patiently. “But... to save our father's life, we have to tryasking her if she's willing to help. If she agrees, we'll arrange theirmeeting. If not, we'll reject Mrs. Ritter.”

"I understand now," nodded Jenna. "This way, you won't offend eitherparty.”

"Yes," sighed Brayden helplessly. He looked outside at the hazy sky.

It looked like a shadow that he couldn't shake off in his heart.

A car pulled into the underground parking lot of the mall.

Sylvia got out of the car and awkwardly tugged at her fleece hoodie. She didn't know what had gotten into Franklin, where he had managedto replace two matching couple hoodies, and why he insisted on makingher wear one.
