Chapter 764

"Why keep her? To continue causing trouble in our village?"

"Our village is being developed, surely because it's a jinx! A disasterbrought upon us!"

These village women were all crazy about Winter. Ever since she cameto their village, their husbands have been following her like they wereunder a spell, constantly going home and praising Winter for being sobeautiful.

Whichever of them listened, they all felt very uncomfortable.

This time they finally got Winter's red-handed.

The morning sun shone on the surface of the water, creating sparklingripples.

Early in the morning, the village was not calm.

Winter was put into a cage.

“Let's go, carry it away.”

None of the men in their family dared to speak up, although they felt alittle guilty watching Winter's embarrassed appearance.

But... not a single person spoke up.

Several scratch marks were on Winter's beautiful face, and her cheapmaternity clothes were torn and tattered, revealing her fair skin, makingher look especially alluring.

She always protected her belly, fearing that the unborn child would beharmed.

These women ended up hitting her anyway, but none of them hit herstomach.

She held her belly, sitting in the cage and looking at these villagers withan expressionless face.

She felt a little anxious as she didn't want to die.

What if the child was drowned in this river? That was her only tie withClark in this world.

Her eyes turned red with sadness, "I really didn't have an affair withDevyn. Why don't you listen to my explanation?"

"At this point, you still won't admit it?!" Phoebe became angry andpinched her face. Her grip was strong, as she did farm work every dayand had a lot of strength.

“You bitch! Our village kindly took you in, and yet you still seduced myman!" Phoebe slapped her across the face once again and exclaimed,"We should never have taken you in to begin with."

“That's it. No more talking. Just drown her in the water," anotherwoman said before carrying the cage.

Winter panicked and struggled to push open the door of the cage. "Letme out! This is murder, it's illegal!"

"You ignorant village women," she yelled.

As the cage got closer and closer to the river, suddenly a figure camerunning towards them. "Winter! Winter!" It was Rey.

"Winter, save me!" She screamed as if she had seen a life-savingstraw.

"Rey, don't blame us for not warning you. She's just a slut who seducedmy man last night," Phoebe blocked Rey's way and shouted loudly.“It's impossible. Winter isn't that kind of woman, especially since she'sabout to give birth!" Rey didn't believe Phoebe at all.

“I know you want her as your wife, but she is a bitch who will onlydeceive you." Phoebe continued to slander Winter's reputation. "If shewere really a good woman, would she be living here alone with such abig belly? I think she must be one of those mistresses carrying anillegitimate child.”

"Don't talk about her like that!" Rey became angry and pushed Phoebeaway before rushing towards Winter.

"What do you mean by this? Pushing my woman?" Devyn rushed overto grab hold of Rey. "She seduced me last night insisting on talking withme while claiming that couldn't sleep.”

Rey was stunned; he looked at Devyn in shock. "Is it true?"

"Can I lie to you?" Devyn said stubbornly; he couldn't admit his owndirty behavior when things had come this far.

Winter was shaking with anger. "He's lying about everything; he'sframing me!" But no one believed her anymore.

She could only put her last hope on Rey. "Rey, I didn't do anythingwrong; please believe me."

"Rey, we're buddies,” Devyn said painfully."We've known each other forhalf our lives so why wouldn't you trust what I say? Last night I mademistakes because I drank too much but once we got back up there..."Winter closed her eyes tightly; at this point there was nothing left for herto say.

There had been great pity in Rey's eyes when looking at Winter butnow he didn't know whom or what should be trusted anymore.

He wanted to believe in Winter but what Devyn and Phoebe saidseemed so convincing after all.

Could it really be true that Winter wasn't faithful? Maybe Phoebe wasn'twrong either. If she were really such an honorable woman, why wouldsomeone like herself end up pregnant living alone in their villageanyway?

After a while, he angrily said to Winter, "I can't believe how much I likedyou and helped you all the time. Winter, you've disappointed me somuch.”

Winter opened her mouth but felt a huge sense of powerlessnesswelling up inside her. She felt as small and insignificant as an ant.

She sat in the pigsty with a heart as dead as ashes, feeling the riverwater slowly creeping up past her knees towards her neck.

She should have known that people in this village were incrediblyignorant.

The only person who would always protect her, love her and believe inher was Clark.

A tear slid down from the corner of Winter's eye and fell into the icy coldriver water. The current was strong and eventually passed over herhead.

She slowly closed both eyes.

"Stop!"

Suddenly, a clear familiar voice rang out.

Winter suddenly opened both eyes under the water; she wondered if itwas just an illusion before death that she heard Sylvia's voice?

How could that be?

She smiled bitterly; ice-cold river water kept pouring into her mouthmaking it almost impossible for breathing. She swallowed several timeswith difficulty almost choking herself to death but she didn't want to die- not yet! She wanted to give birth to this child even if after giving birthshe would die... she just wanted this baby born alive!

Tears continued falling mixed with river water but she felt trapped likean animal here unable to escape no matter what!

"How can there still be such behavior like soaking someone in a cage? You are murdering people collectively."

The woman's voice wasn't loud but extremely powerful nonetheless.Everyone couldn't help looking at them; they saw an unbelievablybeautiful woman standing behind them - tall figure with delicatefeatures better than any celebrity's face! Her pair of eyes looked likestars shining brightly on high making people shudder involuntarily!Standing beside this outstanding woman was also an equallyimpressive man - tall and handsome wearing black casual clothesexuding great aura around him too!

This kind of outstanding man-woman pairing made people almostunable to look away from them...

Rey had always thought that Winter was very pretty but compared withthis woman, she paled by comparison...

Sylvia frowned at these villagers who were simple-minded yet ignorantat the same time.

As soon as they got off the car, Franklin noticed that almost everyone inthe village was gone. He asked an old lady and found out that they hadall run out to immerse a woman in a cage.

It sounded ridiculous.

Franklin waved his hand, and Jasper behind him immediately ledseveral men towards the riverbank.

“You can't pull it up. There's not only a woman in the cage but alsosome stones tied underneath,” an old man said. "They're probably alldrowned by now."

As soon as he finished speaking, there was a splash sound, andseveral men had already jumped into the water.

After waiting for a while, the rope tied to the cage began to shake.Jasper immediately joined two other men who stayed behind and pulledhard outside.

Someone below untied the stones attached to the cage so it becameeasier to pull up. But it was still difficult because of resistance fromwater.

When they finally pulled up the cage after about ten minutes, none ofthose villagers dared move because these people looked tough enoughnot to mess with them.

They were not fools either; they heard that someone wanted to buytheir village but rarely saw anyone coming here. Now this group ofstrangers suddenly appeared; who knew if they were big bosses orsomething?

At this moment, their village chief ran over with his head nodding andbowing: "Mr. Maskelyne, Miss Andrews! What brings you here?""We've never seen anyone immersed in a cage before so we cameover for a look," Sylvia said coldly as she walked towards them byriverbank.

"The key." Jasper swept these villagers coldly without any responsefrom any one of them after waiting for some time impatiently: "Don'tforce me."

Phoebe reluctantly took out her keys then Sylvia saw clearly throughdistance that there was pregnant woman inside with her belly bulgingindicating she would give birth soon!

These crazy villagers were too cruel even trying drowning pregnantwomen!

She quickened her pace until she saw Jasper's team carrying Winterout of that cage when she recognized Winter's face at once despitebeing beaten black-and-blue on her face!

"Winter?"

Jasper heard Sylvia's voice then looked at Winter's face immediatelywhere he could still recognize who she was despite bruises on herface. "What is Winter doing here?"

Sylvia shook her head. "Saving people comes first."

The most important thing when rescuing someone drowning is makingsure he/she spits out water first which means there might be hopesince breathing remained weak but present!

A person who has been drowning must first expel the water; that's themost critical step.

Sylvia knelt beside Winter, checking her breathing. Though it was faint, there was still hope.

She began chest compressions, pressing for a while. "Cough..."Winter's head tilted, and she coughed violently, expelling severalmouthfuls of river water.

After she had coughed up enough to soak the area by the river, sheslowly opened her eyes.

“I'm still alive?" Winter looked around, her head spinning, as she gazedat the blue sky above.
