Chapter 845

The handsome man stood protectively in front of the young girl, his eyes filled with anger as he glared at Vita's pretty yet deceitful face.

He couldn't stand Vita. During their time in the disaster area, she always seemed to be getting in between him and Jenna, intentionally or not. He thought she was crazy then, and apparently still is.

And now she had the audacity to come into his home while he was away with Jenna at the Graley Piano Competition and cause trouble. She always acted like such a hard worker when he brought Jenna home, trying to push her out and harm her.

Cody wasn't around much and Mrs. Wright didn't notice these tricky actions from Vita. But Brayden saw everything clearly - he had wanted her gone for a long time now!

Vita trembled all over as tears streamed down her face. She tried wiping them away but they just kept coming.

She cried silently but there was a hint of stubbornness mixed with sadness in her eyes.

After some time passed, she finally found the strength to speak up. "You've misunderstood me Master Brayden... I never intended on pushing Miss Shepherd out or hurting anyone else for that matter."

"I just wanted to replace out how Mrs. Wright got poisoned... I'm afraid it might have been someone close to her who did it."

She took a deep breath before continuing. "Especially since even the chicken soup that Miss Shepherd made had poison in it... That's why I dared..."

"I don't think you're being daring at all," Brayden interrupted coldly while looking disgustedly at Vita's face. "You probably just want nothing more than pushing the blame onto Jenna!"

"Vita," He continued sternly. "My mom isn't here right now and my dad is staying by Mrs. Wright's side at hospital... It's only us three left here - what have you done? Do you want me spell it out?"

"Do you really have no ulterior motives towards the Wright family? Why else would you come all this way?"

Vita continued trembling uncontrollably until suddenly stumbling forward as if unable to bear any more pain.

She looked weak, innocent yet pitiful altogether.

"I... I didn't do anything," Vita said defensively.

"Not even admitting to what you've done," Brayden sneered. "Dad, I know you sponsored her because you wanted to do a good deed, but she's just a backstabber. When I was taking a shower and pretending to be clumsy on purpose, she barged into my room and even opened the bathroom door."

"What kind of scheming is she up to? She just wants to ruin my relationship with Jenna."

Everyone was shocked by Brayden's accusation!

Especially Cody, who didn't really like this girl and thought that her eyes were full of calculation. But Mrs. Wright liked her so he hung out with her too.

He never imagined that this girl would be so shameless.

"No, I really did go into the wrong room then. I thought it was Miss Shepherd's room..." Vita felt everyone staring at her strangely.

The air in the hospital room seemed frozen solid.

She was angry and upset - how could Brayden say such things about her in front of all these people?

It must have been Jenna who put him up to it.

She put on a pained expression as if she were the victim here. "I know Miss Shepherd doesn't like me and replaces me annoying. Is she saying bad things about me behind your back? Humiliating me?"

She couldn't help but cry softly again. "If you guys really hate me so much and don't want me in the Wright family anymore, then I'll leave... I've thought I could celebrate Christmas with Mr. And Mrs. Wright, but now it seems a pipe dream."

If someone didn't know better they might have been moved by her crying act...

But everyone there wasn't stupid - especially Sylvia and Franklin - they had seen all kinds of people before...

People like Vita who think they're cleverer than everyone else are nothing new around here.

Jenna looked at Vita expressionlessly during this ridiculous performance; now that she had regained composure from earlier confusion. "I haven't said anything about you nor mentioned your name in front of Brayden," Jenna stated calmly "So... Miss Vita where did this poison come from?"

She hadn't expected Brayden would stand up for her without hesitation or doubt; he trusted her completely!

Her whole heart felt enveloped by warmth akin to sunshine!

The towering figure of the man stood in front of her, his back looming over Jenna like a tall wall that brought a sense of comfort.

Vita frowned and wiped away her tears, looking as if she had been insulted. "Are you saying that I put the poison in the chicken soup? You're being too much, to humiliate me like this."

She shook her head and looked at Cody, "Mr. Wright, believe me, I didn't harm Mrs. Wright."

She spoke while suddenly going crazy and rushed towards the table. She grabbed the fruit knife in her hand and said, "If you continue to doubt me, I will commit suicide right now to prove my innocence!" Angry, she placed the fruit knife at her neck, making a determined face as if she was willing to die. "Don't try to stop me. I am alone in this world, and now I am unjustly accused by all of you. I might as well die! Brayden looked a bit impatiently at her crying, making a scene with tantrums and even threatening to commit suicide.

He pulled out a sharp dagger from his pocket and said, "You want to prove your innocence, right? The fruit knife in your hand is not good enough. Why don't you use this one? With this sharp dagger, one swift strike and blood will immediately flow, guaranteeing you an immediate trip to heaven."

Sylvia was almost tickled by Brayden's ability to detect lies.

Vita stared at Brayden in shock, she was going to commit suicide, does he really have such a indifferent attitude?

She felt almost as painful as if Brayden had stabbed her with a knife.

Jenna was also startled by Brayden's actions and murmured, "Brayden, this doesn't seem right..."

Brayden looked indifferent, with a mocking expression on his handsome face. "What's wrong with that? I just want to help her prove her innocence, so I want to fulfill her wish." Vita found herself in a dilemma.

She originally thought that by making such a fuss, everyone would believe her and no longer doubt her.

Her mind went blank and she couldn't react quickly.

She trembled with her hands but couldn't muster the strength to exert force.

"I... How could you all be so cruel to watch me die? You didn't even want to lend me a hand? Aren't you afraid that I will expose your malicious intentions to the media?"

"You forced me to do this. If I die, each and every one of you will carry the burden of my death! None of you will have it easy!" Vita shouted angrily.

Franklin grew increasingly impatient, wondering what all the fuss was about. "Are you going to die or not? If you are, hurry up and do it. Don't waste our time."

This statement was like the last straw for Vita. She threw her knife to the ground in frustration and exclaimed, "You're all so cruel! Mr. Wright, they're forcing me to die."

Cody had been called over suddenly and found himself amused by Vita's predicament. "Miss Vita," he said with a wry smile on his face, "if you think my son has any interest in you whatsoever, I suggest that you give up now. And if anything happens to my wife because of your actions... well let's just say that your days won't be easy either. Not to mention trying to frame Jenna for something she didn't do - I've already reported everything to the police station and they'll come investigate soon enough."

Upon hearing Cody's words and realizing how serious things had become, Vita began feeling anxious.

However she quickly regained her composure; there was no way anyone could replace out what she had done without getting caught herself.

Just then there came a commotion outside their hospital room door followed by rhythmic knocking.

"Come in," Cody replied softly.

The door opened slowly revealing a uniformed police officer who walked straight towards them while saluting Cody respectfully. "Mayor Cody!"

He then pulled out his handcuffs with an icy expression on his face as he approached Vita directly. "You're Vita?"

As he spoke he compared her appearance against a photo on file before saying bluntly. "You are suspected of intentional homicide through poisoning; please come with us."

Vita stared at them incredulously. "What? No way! You must have made some mistake! What evidence do you have?"

"We found your fingerprints on Mrs. Wright's pearl necklace," replied the officer without emotion as if reading from a script while continuing calmly. "Apart from Mrs. Wright's fingerprints we only found yours." Earlier that morning, after Brayden left town, Cody led an investigation team into the Wright Residence where they discovered evidence pointing towards Vitas involvement in Mrs. Wright's illness. "That's impossible!" protested Vita, shaking her head repeatedly; she clearly remembered wearing gloves when committing this crime, so how could they possibly replace her fingerprints?

"The fingerprint on the Abrus precatorius bead is very faint, so we can't confirm if it's yours. However, we found this in your room." The police suddenly pulled out a transparent plastic bag containing a pair of white gloves. "There are remnants of Abrus precatorius poison on them. When you wore these gloves to collect the beads, you thought you wouldn't leave any fingerprints. But... these gloves are too cheap and only partially effective in hiding your fingerprints."

Vita was always frugal, except when it came to buying clothes to package herself up nicely. In other aspects of her life, she was extremely stingy...
