Chapter 198

As Daria disappeared into the kitchen, likely to check on the preparations, Narik stayed behind, lingering awkwardly in the doorway.

His eyes were sharp, watching me as if searching for answers I wasn't ready to give.

Finally, he spoke. "There's something on your mind."

I looked up at him, my hands pausing over the papers in front of me.

Narik had always been perceptive, and there was no point in hiding what was already starting to unravel.

hat's your plan, Elizabeth?" Narik asked, his voice low but direct. "I heard rumors... something about a Karnata passport?"

I froze for a brief second.

There was no way around it now.

I set the papers down and met his gaze.

"Yes," I admitted, my voice softer than intended. "I've applied for a Karnata passport. Orlando-he's asked me to join him in Karnata country for a new opportunity. I'm planning to go." Narik's brows furrowed in surprise, and for a moment, he seemed at a loss for words.

"But Leo-he can't go to Karnata.... You know that."

"I know," I replied, my voice growing even quieter.

The weight of my decision hung between us, heavy and undeniable. "He won't go."

There was a long pause. Narik crossed his arms, as if shielding himself from the sudden chill in the room.

"Doe's Leo know about this?"

Narik had a sharp eye for emotions.

One glance at my expression, and he understood everything I hadn't said aloud.

He didn't immediately speak, but after a brief pause, he offered his support for my plan.

However, he gave me a piece of advice that I couldn't easily ignore.

"You should talk to Leo about this," Narik said, his tone firm but gentle. "He's bound to replace out, and it's better coming from you than someone else."

I knew he was right.

Narik had a keen sense of what was going on in my mind, and if he already knew I was planning to travel to Karnata and get a passport, it wouldn't be long before Leo figured it out too. Leo was always a few steps ahead, and if he uncovered my plan on his own, things could spiral out of control.

I nodded slowly. "I know," I said, acknowledging the truth in his words.

That evening, I received a phone call from Leo.

His voice, as always, had a calm and commanding quality.

"The war is going to clear now," he said, sounding relieved. "And we will wrap everything up, and will lead wolves to our victory,"

I couldn't help but feel a flicker of pride for him. "That's great, Leo. I'm happy for you."

Before I could continue, he added. "I'll be coming back early to be with you."

Chapter 198

My heart'skipped a beat. I quickly calculated the dates in my mind and realized that his return would coincide with the day Orlando had asked me to take a trip to Karnata, I felt a wave of anxiety rising in my chest. How was I going to explain this to Leo?

"I'm actually planning a trip to Karnata around that time," I blurted out.

There was a brief silence on the other end of the line.

"Karnata country?" Leo's voice was laced with surprise. "What's in Karnata country?"

"I'm going to meet a friend."

1crambled for an explanation that wouldn't sound suspicious.

Lee was someone who valued honesty, and I didn't want to arouse any doubt.

He seemed eager to please me, so after a brief pause, he said, "I'll have BETA check the itinerary. If it's not too busy, I'll come with you. We can spend some time together."

"No need," I responded quickly, my voice almost too fast. "I'll be back after I finish what I'm... busy with. You've just wrapped up everything and probably still have a lot of work to handle."

Leo didn't respond immediately, and the silence that followed made my heart race.

I feared he could sense the unease in my voice.

I tried to steady my breathing, hoping he wouldn't press further.

But then Leo let out a soft chuckle, his tone light and casual, though I wasn't sure if it was genuine.

"Alright," he said, "We'll do it your way. After the baby's born, we'll go out and enjoy ourselves properly."

I exhaled, feeling a mix of relief and lingering apprehension.

"Yes, that sounds good," I agreed, forcing a smile that he couldn't see.

Third POV:

After we ended the call, Leo sat in his office, staring at his phone thoughtfully.

Something about the conversation had unsettled him, though he couldn't pinpoint exactly what.

He turned to Panther, his right-hand man, who had been waiting patiently.

"Check on Elizabeth's recent activities," Leo said in a low, commanding tone. "See what plans she's made for this trip."

Panther didn't take long to return with the information.

"She's having dinner with a friend from Karnata country at the Mufa restaurant," he reported.

Leo's brow furrowed slightly.

"A friend from Karnata?" He murmured to himself. This didn't sit right with him.

He couldn't recall Elizabeth ever mentioning any connections from Karnata

He leaned back in his chair, twirling a pen between his fingers as he thought it over. "Do have anything scheduled in the next few days?" he asked, still deep in thought.
