Chapter 211

Chapter 211

His apology meant nothing.

One word-one "sorry"-was supposed to make up for nearly losing my life?

For nearly losing our child? For all the pain and fear I had endured alone? I shook my head, a miserable smile tugging at my lips. Overnight, my world had shattered.

I had bled, I had screamed, I had fought with every ounce of strength I had left, and now... now he thought he could fix it with a simple apology? didn't say anything more.

He moved closer, scooping me up from the hospital bed.

His strong arms wrapped around my fragile body, cradling me against his chest.

His face was buried in the crook of my neck, and I felt the warmth of his breath against my skin as he whispered, "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."

I lay limp in his arms, my body too weak to resist.

"Put me down," I rasped, but he didn't listen. He held me tighter, his voice low and desperate.

"Elizabeth, please. Let me make it up

you. Let me take you home. We can start again. I'll never hurt you again, I swear."

His words were a jumble of apologies and pleas, but each one only fueled my anger.

My heart clenched with bitterness. I couldn't take it anymore.

"You think sorry is enough?" I hissed, my voice shaking with emotion.

"You think I'll just forget everything? That I'll go back to the way things were?"

I bit down on his shoulder, hard, sinking my teeth into the flesh through his shirt.

The taste of blood filled my mouth, the metallic tang mixing with my tears.

Bit Leo didn't flinch. He didn't even pull away.

He just kept holding me, his heart breaking with every word I spoke.

He whispered again, "I'm sorry, Elizabeth. I'm so, so sorry."

I bit harder, the pressure of my teeth increasing with each apology.

What was the point of this late, useless remorse? What was the point of his tears now?

Blood oozed down my lips, staining his black shirt with deep crimson, but Leo didn't care. He continued to cradle me, whispering over and over, "Please, Elizabeth... give me another chance."

I could feel the weight of my own body-thin, weak, emaciated.

I wasn't the same woman who had once stood strong beside him.

The attack, the birth, everything had taken its toll on me.

I had lost so much weight, my bones nearly visible under my skin.

I didn't even look like a woman who had just given birth. I looked like a ghost of myself.

Leo's grip on me tightened. His lips pressed against my temple, and he mumbled through his sorrow, "I'll take care of you. I'll take care of the baby. We'll raise her together, okay? I'll fix this." Chapter 211

But his words fell flat, hollow and meaningless.

I stared blankly ahead, the anger that had fueled me moments before fading into an overwhelming numbness.

I didn't care anymore. I couldn't bring myself to care.

"Leo," I said, my voice cold and distant. "Whether it's your life, or your love... I don't want it anymore."

His body stiffened. He pulled back slightly, his eyes wide with shock.

I could see the hurt in his expression, the disbelief. He looked like I had just ripped his heart from his chest, but I didn't feel any satisfaction in seeing his pain. I felt nothing.

"Elizabeth..." His voice was barely a whisper, filled with anguish.

lared up at him, my voice like ice. "Put me down, Leo. Or you'll regret it."

He hesitated, refusing to let go. "Elizabeth, please-"

That's when his body froze, and I saw his eyes s widen in shock.

I felt the cold muzzle of a gun press against the back of his head, and a voice, cold as steel, spoke from behind him.

"Put her down," the woman commanded.

Leo's arms loosened, and he slowly lowered me to the ground, his movements stiff and reluctant.

He turned his head slightly, and I saw the flicker of recognition in his eyes.

I looked up, my breath catching in my throat as I saw her standing there.

The Tears welled up in my eyes, and I could no longer hold back the flood of emotion that surged within me.

"Mum," I whispered, my voice breaking as the tears finally spilled over.
