Chapter 29

I rushed to Emma's house.

Emma took one look at my swollen eyes and torn lips, and without a word, she wrapped her arms around me. We fell asleep that way, holding each other through the night.

e next day, I hurriedly packed my belongings at Leo's place while he was at work.

As soon as I walked in, I noticed a lot of my instruments sitting in the living room. Not only the piano, but also the flute and guitar that I had brought with me to play, which were piled up in a way that didn't fit in with the whole room. Some people, some things, were not meant to belong here.

On the table sat yesterday's "Endless Summer," now placed in a vase by Leo as if trying to preserve something already broken.

But even the symbol of eternal love had fallen to the ground twice, as if to remind me that

some things are simply not meant to last.

With resolve hardening in my chest, I gathered my belonging and walked out the door, not daring to look back.
