Chapter 34

"I'm sorry, Aria," he said, his voice professional yet blunt.

"Monologue refused the offer. She told us not to contact her again, and she made it clear

that she won't perform for a cheater-especially not at a wedding."

ria's face drained of color, her lips parting in disbelief.

"What?!" she shrieked, her voice cutting through the room.

I pressed my lips together, trying-and failing-to suppress the laughter bubbling up inside

1. me.

Her outburst drew every eye in the room, whispers spreading through the crowd like

wildfire.

They were all witnessing her humiliation, and there was no escaping it.

A middle-aged man, Aria's father, strode over, his face a mask of disappointment.

"Aria," he said sternly, his voice low but authoritative. "I raised you to behave like a lady. Who gave you permission to lose your temper like this in public?"

Her hands clenched Into fists at her sides, her voice tight with anger and shame.

"I'm sorry, Father," she muttered, her eyes shooting daggers at me before she stormed off

after him.

But not before she hurled one final threat over her shoulder.

"I won't forget the humiliation you caused me today. I'll make sure you pay for this."

I raised an eyebrow, letting my voice slip into a cool, mocking tone.

"Funny. I don't plan on letting you off the hook, either."

Her steps faltered, and for a brief second, genuine shock flashed in her eyes.

She couldn't believe I'd spoken to her like that, that I wasn't afraid of her threats.

She opened her mouth to retort, but the murmurs from the crowd only grew louder, suffocating her pride.

She glared at me one last time before hurrying after her father, tail tucked between her legs.

As she disappeared, I allowed myself a quiet moment of satisfaction.

e rush of pleasure was undeniable.

She had wanted to humiliate me, but in the end, the tables had turned.

With the alcohol still coursing through my veins and the dizziness quickly making a comeback, I sat down on the couch for a few moments to rest, my consciousness coming more and more fuzzy.

The edges of my vision blurred, and before I knew it, I found myself slumped in a familiar

carriage.

The soft glow of the dim lights illuminated Leo's face as he sat across from me, his gaze intense, almost suffocating.

"I've been a mess these past few days," he murmured, his voice low and raw. "Without you... everything has fallen apart. I made a mistake, Liz. Maybe we can work things out." My heart hardened.

The words stung, but they didn't sway me.

"Never." My voice was ice, and I pushed him away, every ounce of hurt and betrayal burning in my chest.

"Stay away from me, Leo. I'm not coming back."

Leo's familiar scent-cedar and musk-wrapped around me, making it hard to think clearly.

It was a smell that once comforted me, a reminder of all the moments we shared, and now it was stirring something deep inside me.

My body still remembered him, still craved him, but my mind was sharp, resisting the pull with every ounce of my strength.

I stumbled out of the car, legs unsteady, my mind swimming from both alcohol and the storm of emotions rushing through me. Leo stood behind, stunned at my abrupt refusal.

He wasn't used to hearing "no" from me.

In the past, I had always given in to his touch, his presence, the unspoken bond that had once tied us together so tightly.

But things had changed.

I had changed.

He followed me, gettingg out of the car and reaching for me again, his hand hovering just

inches away.

There was something different in his eyes, a mixture of confusion and something else-was

it respect?

A new understanding?

I had never refused him before, and now he seemed unsure of what to do.

"Liz..." His voice was softer than I expected, tinged with uncertainty. "Let me help you. You're not in any condition to be out here alone."

I stuy shook off his hand, determined to walk away, but the alcohol was stronger

than my will.

My legs wobbled beneath me, and the world tilted dangerously.

Just as I was about to crash to the ground, Leo caught me, his arms wrapping around me in

a way that felt both familiar and fore

"Liz, I'm not going to do anything. Just... let me take you home. You look... dangerous like this."

His voice broke, almost pleading.

He sounded like a man who had realized too late the weight of his mistakes.

I wanted to push him away, to scream at him for thinking he could fix things with a simple gesture, but my body was too weak.

I could only blink sluggishly as the world went dark, his words echoing faintly in my mind.

fe next morning, I woke up alone.
