Chapter 159

"Nicola, what is it?"

"Willow, I don't care about going to jail, but I want to protect my baby. If I stay in prison, there's no way I can keep this child. I need your help to apply for bail. After I give birth, I'll come back."

Willow was thinking about that too. The most pressing matter now was to help Nicola apply for bail.

Even for a murderer, Marley's law allowed bail for a pregnant woman pending trial. Nicola was badly wounded last night. Thankfully, her unborn child was unharmed.

Another night like that and the child would not survive.

If released on bail, Nicola won't have to endure such inhuman torture. It would also help them replace evidence to clear her name.

Despite the bleak prospects, Willow was determined to clear her name. As soon as Willow left, Silas entered with a cold face. He briefly frowned at Nicola's bruises. Then, he returned to his indifferent and ruthless demeanor.

Nicola shrank back against the wall when she saw Silas. His harsh voice pierced the silence before Nicola could inquire about his visit, Nicola, are you pregnant?

"You still dared to apply for bail?"

Nicola didn't expect her conversation with Willow to be eavesdropped on. She was alarmed and instinctively protected her belly.

Seeing her defensive manner, Silas's lips curled into a sardonic grin that was as cold and sharp as a knife.

"Nicola, dreaming of a retrial? Give up already!" Silas strode forward, and with a sudden forceful grip, he yanked her up from the ground.

Confronting the cruelty in Silas's eyes, Nicola felt a bad gut feeling creeping up on her. She tightened her hold on her belly. "Mr. Burley, what do you intend to do?"

"Nicola, I won't let you have any reason for bail!"

He wouldn't let her have a reason for bail.

Nicola staggered abruptly. The only reason she could be bailed out was her pregnancy, to give birth outside of prison. His implication was he wouldn't allow the child in her womb to live!

Nicola didn't know where she got the strength. She forcefully broke free from Silas' grip. "Mr. Burley, you can't do this! This child is your flesh and blood!"

"So what!" Silas's expression remained cold and menacing. "Nicola, do you think I would allow a vicious b*tch to bear my offspring?" "No! You can't hurt my baby! Don't hurt my child!" Nicola desperately shrank back. But behind her was the wall, leaving her with nowhere to retreat.

"Heh!" His laughter was chilling and cruel. "You're in over you your head!"

"Take her away!"

Following Silas' command, several burly men entered, dragging Nicola out without hesitation.

The trunk of a vehicle opened, and she was roughly shoved inside. As the cold trunk lid slowly closed, m Nicola's heart sank into despair. Silas had taken her to a private hospital by the seaside. As soon as she entered, she was forcibly pinned to an operating table.
