Alpha Billionaire Series -
Doctor Daddy Chapter 5
MARK
The elevator doors closed, blocking Brooke from my view. She was smiling and tucking her dark hair behind an ear. A soft pink highlighted her cheeks. That beautiful view was replaced with a distorted reflection of my face. I grimaced. I'd much rather be looking at her.
I was in a good mood, put there by Brooke's smile. My entire morning dragged. I wasn't much for running out the door during my breaks, but today I was eager to leave, hoping to see Brooke again. I was disappointed when the elevators opened on the ground floor and instead of seeing Brooke, another woman sat there.
I should have known. The odds of having Brooke work in my building were low. The rest of my day went about as any other regular day did. I ran through my appointments, but nothing unexpected. Mrs. Riley came waddling in, a delight of crankiness as always. "I expected a call from you or your husband this weekend, Mrs. Riley," I said as I stepped into the exam room.
"If I had my choice in the matter, I would have called you a week ago."
I chuckled. I found her late pregnancy attitude entertaining. I knew I shouldn't, she was uncomfortable, not getting much sleep, but with two previous kids, none of this should have come as a surprise.
"I'm ready for you to take this kid out." She lay back and put her feet up in the stirrups as I swung them into place.
"Let's see if this kid is ready." I pulled on a pair of exam gloves and began checking out the baby.
I placed my hand on her belly and felt to see if she had begun dilating.
"Baby is in a good position. Head has dropped." I took a moment to check my measurements. "You're about two to three centimeters. Any contractions yet?"
I stepped back and pulled off my examination gloves. I held out my hand to help her sit up.
She struggled upright. She ran her hands over her face.
"Nothing consistent. I've been taking lots of walks and drinking too much cold water."
She was tired and I shouldn't have been amused by her. This was her third child with me. I didn't anticipate anything terribly different than the previous two. Her babies took their time making their way into the world. "That baby will be born when it's ready. You know the drill."
"Oh, yeah. The kids are already at my in-laws, and my bag is all packed."
"I'll be seeing you soon," I said as I left her to finish getting dressed.
I had no other patients that I was expecting to have to deliver this week. January was always slow when it came to babies.
The next morning, I didn't expect to see Brooke. I had assumed that she was doing some kind of multi-position backup training and that I wouldn't see her again. Our eyes met as I walked in, and her cheeks flushed. I gave her a nod and a wink and continued to the elevators.
She wasn't alone at her post until the next week. I had things that needed to be said and I didn't want anyone else to overhear.
"Miss DeBoise," I said as I approached her desk.
"Doctor Mark."
I wasn't sure if it was her smile or the way she said my name that went straight to my cock.
"How are you liking your new position?"
"There are so many other positions I like to be in which would be so much better." She gave me the most innocent smile, in complete contradiction to the meaning behind those words.
I raked my gaze over her. Even in formless scrubs, she was a knockout. I still had her red lace panties in the drawer next to my bed. What was she wearing under her uniform today?
"I didn't realize your practice was in this building," she admitted.
"No? But you know I work with your father."
"Knowing something in theory and knowing the explicit details are very different things. Kind of like knowing I'm the daughter of your friends, but also knowing I'm a full-grown woman."
She knew exactly what she was doing.
"You most definitely are fully grown," I agreed.
"You should know."
"Oh, I know all right. So can I expect to see you here every morning?"
She nodded. "Seven to one, weekdays only."
"I haven't seen you the past few days when I head out for lunch."
She shrugged. "I've been training. Last week was a bit all over the place."
My phone rang. "Excuse me." I stepped away from her desk to take the call. "Bryant here."
I listened as the operator on the other end of the line gave me the information.
"Thank you." I stepped back to Brooke's desk. "I'll see you around. I have a baby to deliver."
Mrs. Riley and her husband were headed to the hospital. I had time to head upstairs to my office and check in with my appointments. The maternity ward alerted me when she arrived, and they had her in a room. I finished with my first appointment of the morning and passed my second appointment over to a colleague while I checked in on Mrs. Riley.
She was mid contraction when I stepped into her room. Her husband held her hand and guided her through the breathing process. They had this routine down. I waited for her contractions to end before examining her.
"Everything looks great. I will keep in contact with your nurse. She will let me know if anything changes. I'll be back in a few hours to check in on you. And if that baby decides to speed up, I'm right over in the medical tower, and can be over in a matter of minutes." As predicted, Mrs. Riley's labor took several hours longer than she wanted. I stayed around the office catching up on paperwork while I waited for the Riley baby to be ready. After fourteen hours of active labor, Mrs. Riley gave birth to a healthy baby boy number three.
I was exhausted after I left for the night. Picking up my meal at a drive-thru on the way home I thought about having a wife and kids. Did I really want to put the woman I loved through all of that? I guess the final decision wouldn't be up to me. It was called labor for
a reason.
When I got home, I felt exactly how empty it was. No home-cooked meals, no bedtime stories. The Riley's were filling their house with kids and noise and chaos. That noise and life were missing from my home. Maybe Karen DeBoise was right, I needed to replace a wife and start having kids.
I hated dating. It was so much work and too many games.
I poured myself a drink and sat in the dark. I couldn't stop thinking about Brooke. Now there was a woman who played the right kind of games. She knew what she wanted, hadn't expected me to be some kind of psychic to figure it out.
But Brooke was Peyton's daughter. That seemed like a bad idea. Then again, I had already f****d her brains out in the middle of the gala. The line of bad ideas had already been crossed. Hell, I had completely waltzed right over it without a care in the world. I had wanted to get inside her and nothing was going to get in my way.
The more I thought about it, the more I realized I wanted to get back inside of her. I longed to hear those little needy whimpers of hers. I had to accept the fact that my body was currently obsessed with her. I should take her out a few times, fuck her until I got her out of my system, and then get on with my life.
I finished my drink and went to bed.
In the morning, whatever I had decided the night before, I tossed it out as a bad idea. I hadn't been thinking the night before. I had been moody and feeling my age. What I needed to do was ignore my obsession with Brooke. Just because I crossed the line, it didn't mean I couldn't back step and course correct. She was Peyton's kid, I should never have even looked at her.
I then proceeded to make myself miserable. In a failed attempt at ignoring Brooke every morning, I either got into my office too early, or I was late for my first appointment. Unless I came in the back way, which was a pain in the a*s involving parking on the opposite side of the hospital and having to cross the entire campus. It seemed like an excessive amount of work just to avoid a beautiful smile.
