Alpha Black -
Chapter 10 - She's Mine
Nathaniel Black
I could smell the rancid stench of rouge werewolves as soon as I stepped outside of the movie theatre, their touches and footsteps lingered around the entrance of the movie theatre as they paced, waiting for our exit. I knew what they were after, they were after my little mate.
I pulled her closer to my side as we walked through the crowd of people who were leaving the cinema at the same time as us, and I hope their human scent would hide us for a minute.
’Jamie, get here now,” I hissed through the mind link.
I heard Jamie grunt in reply, ‘what’s wrong?’
’Rouges, lots of them. I’ve got Alice with me.’
’I can be there in ten.’
’Make if five.’
I snapped back to reality as Alice grabbed my shirt, “what’s wrong?” she whispered, looking at me with concern and I realised I had been scowling.
“Sorry,” I said, smoothing her hair and planting a kiss on her soft hair, inhaling her sweet sent, “it looks like we might be cutting our date short.”
“Why? What’s happened?”
“Hopefully, you won’t replace out,” I said, pulling her along into a fast paced walked.
Their smell grew stronger as I dragged Alice away from the busy street and into a darker laneway behind the bustling shops and restaurants. “Nate, what’s going on?” Alice said, the concern starting to lace in her voice.
“Sorry,” I said, pulling her into my arms as I realised I’d walked into their trap. Their footsteps were heavy unlike the humans they dressed as, they were prepared and a group of four badly dressed men stood menacingly at the end of the lane.
“Close your eyes Alice,” I said, placing her carefully against the wall of the laneway.
“Nate, -” Alice said still clutching my shirt.
“Darling, just stay still, close your eyes,” I said with more command.
“Who are they?”
“Rouges, honey, they’re after you.”
I turned to look at the two groups of men, I could have taken them easily myself but I needed to protect my mate now, she was my biggest weakness and I needed to protect her. Thankfully the sun had set while we were in the cinema and it was a lot darker, the tall buildings either side of the laneway cast long shadows and Alice was mostly engulfed in darkness, but I felt their eyes all burning on her.
I felt my instincts to protect her, my jealousy course through me, but as the men cautiously approached us, I didn’t stop my wolf. I stepped back from Alice and lunged at the wall, my bones cracked, my skin split and my hands and teeth tripled in site.
The paws of my wolf hit the wall and I bounced off it, shooting myself at the group of five men, taking out two like bowling pins and I projected myself at another before they had the chance to shift into their wolves.
The group of four men at the other end of the laneway shifted quickly as I took out the last two men in this group, quickly sprinting back to Alice, making it seconds before they would have reached her.
Standing against the brick wall, Alice seemed to stare in awe and shock as I shook the rouge wolf in my mouth, his neck snapping and I tossed him to his companions. The three remaining wolves cautiously circled me and Alice and I waited for them to lunge, I couldn’t leave her un protected.
’Step back!’ Jamie said. And I did, just as a large black car flew down the laneway, taking out two of the wolves as they flew over the roof of the car.
“Your uber is here,” Jamie said with a wicked grin, as he pulled the car up parallel with where Alice stood, having not budged from the stop I planted her in.
“He’s incredible,” she murmured, she was going through shock.
Jamie leaned over the passenger seat and opened the door, “get in Alice,” he said more firmly this time.
She slowly moved towards the car, but not fast enough. Another rouge wolf landed on top of the car and I shoved her with my nose into the car, kicking the door shut as I snarled at the wolf and leap over the car, knocking him off.
’Take her to the pack boundaries, alert the Alpha of the rouges, I’ll finish up here,” I commanded to Jamie with a snarl at the rouge wolves who were growing in numbers.
Jamie took off, the engine roaring and he just drove over the top of the wolves he rammed when he flew down their bones crunching as he did so. Thank the Spirts for four-wheel drives, I sighed at turned my attention to the unfortunate souls who began to circle me.
I gave out a bark and leap into the dozen wolves, teeth and claw drawn and sharp. But what else did the fools expect when I was twice the size of a regular wolf.
* * * * * * * * * *
I sauntered into the pack boundaries, my fur filthy with blood and sweat and a searing from a bite mark on my leg made me furrow my brow. The patrol wolves looked at me, ready to attack, but quickly realised who I was and stepped back, lowering their heads in submission.
’Where are you?’ I asked Jamie, as I vaguely followed my nose to my little mate.
’We’re at Angel’s, the Beta’s house,’ Jamie replied.
‘I’ll be there soon,” I said, stepping into a light jog, ’I’ll need pants.’
I approached the sturdy brick house, it was one of the newer builds inside the pack boundary, it was sleek and modern unlike the other houses in the street which were old and ‘quant’, it had a large yard that back onto the forest and smelt of vanilla. Jamie and Beta Stone approached the house as I slowed and sauntered down the driveway.
’I think we should hose you down, before we let you inside,’ Jamie said with a snicker.
I shifted into my human form for the last ten or so meters, as to not intimate Beta Stone too much, Stone handing me a pair of black sweat pants.
“Thank you Beta Stone,” I said with a nod as I covered my exposed manhood.
“Not a problem, thank you for alerting us to the Rouge situation. And then dealing with them,” he added.
“Thank you for watching my mate,” I said with a firm nod.
“Not a problem, Alice is like family. Come inside, have a shower.”
We walked into the Beta’s House and the inside was more grand than the outside, with tall double height spaces and chandeliers illuminating every room, the house was unlike anything else in the pack.
“You have a wonderful house,” I said as we walked into a large room which looked mixed between a library, a bar and a lounge room.
“Thank you,” he said with a laugh, “but I admit I can’t take the credit it for it. My mate, Angel works a reputable model, he wears the money pants in this house,” he said proudly.
I felt a like chuckle leave my chest, unlike the Alpha of this pack, I respected Beta Stone, he was strong, smart and young.
“Alice and Angle are asleep in on of the guest bedrooms,” Jamie said reading my next thought. “Do you want a drink?”
“Or a shower?” Stone said with a chuckle.
I looked down and noticed I’d walked dirt and blood into the house, luckily not on carpet. “Shower and then drink,” I said with a stern nod.
Stone lead me to a bathroom which led out to a paved area and pool, leaving me with a fluffy towel, and a fresh set of pants and underwear. The cool water soothed my skin, and I quickly scrubbed at the blood and dirt that laced my hair and every crevasse of my body.
I could smell that my mate had woken as I left the bathroom, her scent lingering in new rooms and corridors and I followed my nose to the bar where they all sat happily on stool, Jamie’s laugh filling the room as they talked.
“How are you, my love?” I asked as I placed a hand of my mate’s waist, as I wrapped her in my embrace.
She shifted, a forced grin on her place and she didn’t look at me, “fine,” she replied simply. She was mad at me, but why? Had I not just saved her life from imminent doom?
“What’s wrong?” I said, lifting her face with my hand forcing her to look at me.
“It’s nothing,” she shrugged, looking away and picking up her drink of Rum and Coke, taking a good mouthful.
“It’s clearly not nothing,” I said furrowing my brow, “talk to me,”
“I’d rather not do this in front of my friends and your Beta,” she hissed.
I sighed and let go of her face, fine. I’ll take her somewhere where they were not. As she placed her empty glass on the bar, I scooped her up, throwing her over my shoulder and a squeal fell out of her mouth, “What are you doing?” she said wriggling and trying to free herself.
I tightened my grip on her waist and legs, “Well you said you didn’t want to talk in front of the Beta’s and Angel, so I’m taking you away from them,” I shrugged.
“This is not what I meant and you know it, Nathaniel.”
A growl ripped from my lips and her wriggling stopped, I could feel her glare and frustration as I walked into one of the guest bedrooms that I’d past from the bathroom and threw her onto the bed.
“What did you want to say?” I asked more ferociously than I had intended.
She sat up and sucked on her tongue, pouting almost. She crossed her arms and glared at me.
“Tell me,” I commanded.
I heard the slight increase in pulse as she tried to disobey the Alpha command, but she gave in, “I don’t,” she paused, “I’ve never,”
“What, just spit it out!” I said now getting irritated.
“You killed people,” she said.
“And?” I asked.
She opened her mouth and closed it again, he gaze fell and I suddenly noticed the swirling of emotions in her eyes. She’s never seen anyone die before. I dropped to my knees beside the bed and reached for her hand, but she flinched and moved her arm away as my fingers grazed her skin.
“I would never hurt you,” I said, settling to place my hand on her thigh.
“And what about the people I love?” she croaked out, looking at me with big sad eyes that swirled and started to fill with tears, “I can’t help but think about those wolves. They were people too, they must have had friends, families, people they cared about, now, because of you they’ll never get to see them again.”
“I was protecting you,” and I looked up at her, “I do not want a minute of my life to go past without knowing you are safe, Alice. I could not bare the thought that someone could hurt you, that you were in pain or suffering. You are my biggest priority.”
The tears began to streak down her face and I quickly pulled her into a hug, her hot tears steaming down her face and onto my bare chest. “I will do what ever I see just to protect what is mine, and you, you are mine,” I said.
