Alpha Black -
Chapter 27 - Three Days
Alice Forrest
I felt his fingers running through my hair, his nails lightly grazing my scalp and he repeated the action. The smooth moments eased me out of sleep, and I found myself snuggled up by his side with one of his arms wrapped protectively around me.
“Good morning,” he hummed as I snuggled deeper into his chest.
“Mmm, good morning,” I groaned as I twisted and scrunched my nose up at the light that filtered through the sheer curtains.
“It certain is,” he said, planting a kiss on the side of my head and snuggling up behind me, wrapping another arm around me and holding my body firmly against his own. “Can I ask you a question?”
I opened my eyes and rolled over to look at him, “sure.”
“Are you late?”
“What?”
“You period? I’ve known you for nearly three weeks, and nothing. Are you late?”
I swallowed and closed my eyes again, rolling back over, “I don’t think so,” I sighed, happy that his question was only to see if I might be pregnant.
“I mean, are you sure? We haven’t exactly been practicing safe sex…” he said, his voice trailing off.
I sighed and rolled back over, waving my left arm out of the layers of bedding and his embrace. I swiped the screen across on my watch, “see, it says ‘Next Period in 6 days’, anyway, I thought you’d just rely on your nose.”
“Your smell is constantly changing, mixing more with my own,” he said, nuzzling his nose into my hair and inhaling deeply. “But still, the best thing I’ve ever smelt.”
“I’m not pregnant, Nate,” I sighed, arching around and kissing his nose.
“How can you be so sure, don’t you remember after you marked me?” he said, capturing my jaw and planting a kiss on my lips.
“Mmm,” I moaned, kissing him back, “how could I forget?” I smiled, planting another kiss on his lips.
“So why don’t you look more worried,” he said persistently.
“I have an implant.”
“What?”
“I have a birth control implant,” I repeated.
He blinked his eyes and looked at me, it was like I could see the cogs working in his mind, “oh,” he eventually said.
“Not what you were expecting me to say, was it?” I asked, resting my head on the pillow.
“No,” he said softly.
“Talk to me,” I said, placing my hand on his cheek, staring into his emerald green eyes. But I was met with silence.
“You had hoped I was pregnant, did you?” I asked. “We’ve been reckless, even I know that, werewolf spunk has a little bit of extra kick to it. So you’d hoped, at some point over the last couple of weeks, something had hit the mark.”
He nodded and looked down.
I smiled and ran my fingers along the stubble that peaked through his skin, “Sorry to disappoint, but I’m not ready for children, Nate. Not tomorrow, and probably not in nine months.”
“It’s fine,” he said forcing a smile and looking up at me, “with or without children, I will love you,” and he kissed me softly again, wrapping his arms around me and holding me close to his chest.
* * * * * * * * * *
“Your friend wants to talk to you,” Nate said as he walked out of the bathroom, one towel wrapped around his waist and the other drying his hair.
“Oh?” I said, rolling over on the bed and wrapping the bed sheet around my chest as I sat up.
A soft growl ripped from his chest and he stalked towards me, dropping both towels from his chiseled body.
“Wait, which friend?” I said jumping to my feet and placing a foot on his shoulder to fend him off.
“Jenny,” he said, grasping my foot firmly in his hand running his nails up my shin, planting kisses on my foot and ankle.
“What does she want?” I said, grabbing the frame of the canopy bed as he sent shivers up my leg and into my stomach.
“That’s for her to tell you, not me.”
“Well will you let me shower and leave the room?” I asked as his fingers traced the bottom of my foot, causing a giggle to slip out of my lips.
He inhaled deeply from my skin and I couldn’t help but let my gaze, yet again wander of his perfectly sculpted form, “perhaps,” he murmured and with a sudden tug he grasped my thigh instead and I was now clinging to him awkwardly, the bedsheet disappearing behind me.
“But I do still have you for another two days,” he chuckled, planting a kiss on the mark on my neck.
“Two days?” I asked, not even bothering to struggled against his embrace, but instead wrap my other leg around his waist.
“Traditionally, the Luna is marked and mated for the first time after the ceremony. The following three days, the Beta is in charge of the pack while the Alpha carries out his, husbandly duties,” he purred, his teeth grazing along my collar bone.
“You’re not my husband though,” I said as my head lolled back as he continued to kiss me in intimate places.
“Oh? So, you’ll be my mate and my Luna, but not my wife?” he said, as he lowered me down onto the bed, trailing his kisses down the middle of my chest.
“You never asked me to marry you,” I pointed out lifting his head to look at me.
His green eyes stared up at me, swirls of greens, blues and yellows blurred together and I felt myself get lost into the complexity of shapes and forms. His hands ran up my sides slowly, sending sparks and trails where his fingers had once lingered, “you’re intoxicated,” I breathed as his lips gently brushed against my own.
“Would you marry me?” he asked staring back at me and into my soul.
“That’s not a marriage proposal,” I said shaking my head and making his brow furrow. “They’re meant to be romantic and intimate.”
“What’s more intimate that this?” he asked, running his hand teasingly across my breast and nipple.
I pushed forward and kissed him, “I’m going to have a shower.”
He sighed with defeat and released me, flopping onto the mess of bedsheets that had moments before clothed me from his gaze.
I stopped in the doorway of the bathroom and looked back at him, his gaze clearly falling onto my arse. “Nate, I didn’t have a choice being your mate and you wouldn’t have given me the choice to reject you, so I had no choice in coming here, and there is no way I could be a pack member without being the Luna, I’ve had very little choices the last month.”
“What are you getting at?” he asked sitting up and little and his eyes now studying my face.
“I’ve decided what one of my demands will be,” I said confidently.
“Yes?”
“If you want me to marry you, if you want me to be your wife, you need to remember it will be Doctor Black once I get my PHD, and you need to win my heart over before you propose.”
“Mrs. Black or Doctor Black, I don’t mind,” he shrugged with a purr hidden behind his words.
I shook my head and lent it against the door frame, giving out a slight chuckle.
“I will win your heart Alice,” he promised, “Then I will ask you to marry me, then you will be my wife. You will be mine in every way possible, just as much as I am yours.”
I smiled at his words, but the grin didn’t reach my heart, I cared about him. But I did not love him.
