Alpha Bond
Chapter 34

Ella’s POV

Is this really over?

This question is haunting me again and again. Even if it is, then why that feeling of satisfaction is missing?

Why do I still feel that this is not over? Something big is about to happen, and we aren’t prepared for it.

The sound of the shower stops, and a few moments later, Oliver walks out of the bathroom. His face carries a solemn look, and that happiness of victory is missing on it.

I can read the turmoil in his eyes, the uncertainty, and the fear. But I want him to know that I would be with him on every step of his journey as his mate, friend, and confidante.

Dad always says being a leader means sitting on the chair of responsibilities while wearing a crown of expectations.

Others only see the power that comes with the position, but no one would know how much this position takes from you. Sometimes this position requires sacrifices, and you have to make them for your people... for their happiness and safety.

Even though Oliver hasn’t shared with me what’s bothering him, I know the pressure to be able to live up to the position is worrying him.

But I have full confidence in him that he is going to be the Superior which this clan needs.

“Hey, Superior!” I tease him trying to release some of his worries, and it works as a small, shy smile forms on his lips.

Ah, Goddess, how cute he can be!

Walking towards the bed, he sits beside me. Leaning forward, he places his elbows on his knees and interlocks his fingers in front of him.

I open my mouth to speak, but instead, a gasp falls from my lips when my gaze moves to the ugly wound on his arm.

My heart clenches as I recall the moment when Burton attacked him, then his other injuries flash through my mind.

Instantly, my eyes shift to his other injuries, which again sends a wave of pain inside my chest. His other injuries are not as bad as they have begun to heal, but his arm injury looks awful.

I can bet this will almost take more than a week to get fully healed.

Our bodies heal faster, but this doesn’t mean all our injuries magically stitch up back together within a blink of an eye. Fast healing means we heal faster than humans, but still, healing takes time.

The time of healing depends on the intensity of the injury; the more severe the wound is, the longer it takes to heal.

Although his arm is not bleeding, nor his other wounds, still his wounds need to be tended.

Suddenly, a realization hits me, and I begin to laugh at myself.

“What happened?” He smiles, looking at me as if hearing my laugh brought some kind of happiness to him.

“I was looking at your wounds.” Shaking my head, I still laugh, thinking how my brain has stopped working for a moment.

“My wounds look funny to you.” He raises his eyebrows as he caresses the side of my smile with his thumb.

“No, you dumbo.” I pull his cheeks, making him playfully glare at me.

“I was worried about your wounds, but then I realized how stupid I am being when I can heal you myself.” I shrug with a smile, feeling content in knowing that I can alleviate his pain.

“I can heal, just like mom,” I explain to him as I lift my hand and focus on my healing abilities.

“Hey.” I frown when he slips his hand into mine and breaks my concentration.

“If you have healing abilities like Luna Ivory, then I know they didn’t come without a price.” He gives me a knowing look, “I know about Luna’s blessings and the sacrifice she needs to make every time she uses her abilities. So, I wouldn’t let you use your powers to heal me when I know how they are going to affect you.”

Unlike mom, I can’t exactly heal, but I can help the person by freeing them from their pain by transferring their pain to my body.

And mom’s blood in me heals my body much faster than any werewolf could heal themselves. If I say my body heals magically, then it won’t be wrong.

“I can’t see you hurt.” Looking down, I quietly say.

I usually can’t see someone else’s pain, so how can I bear to see my mate in pain. Whenever I see someone in pain, I feel like I am obligated to help them as I have been blessed with something that can help them.

“And do you think I can bear the thought that you might be suffering because of me?” Holding my face, he lifts up my face, but I keep looking down.

“Look at me.” He orders when I don’t look at him.

I feel helpless because I know he will not let me help him, and then I feel angry because of how he could have let Burton hurt him.

“Why did you get hurt?” Looking at him, I glare, feeling mad at him.

“I am sorry.” He lightly laughs, looking confused.

“I have said, why did you get hurt?” Narrowing my eyes at him, I speak through gritted teeth.

“Because I don’t know how not to get hurt during a fight.” He attempts to say through a straight face, but his lips keep twitching in a smile.

“Oliver.” I sigh and rub my forehead with my thumb and forefinger, “You deliberately let him hurt you. I saw how you were standing there and letting him attack you.”

“Ella.” He lets out a breath and holds my hands in his. “Burton might not be the right person to lead; still, he was this clan’s Superior. Superior is not just a caretaker; he is the person to whom every member of the clan looks up to.”

“I have gone against the Superior not once but many times. I don’t regret my decision because I know what’s right and wrong, but still, somewhere, the guardian in me felt guilty for going against the head’s orders.” He shakes his head and looks away, “I know what I was about to do, so just to honor the title that he held, I let him attack me.”

“The person who owns that position might be wrong, but that title deserved to be respected.” He shrugs, “ Titles or positions don’t define a person, nor we should disrespect any position because of who it owns. I don’t know if I am making any sense, but this is what I believe.”

“After suffering so much, how can you still have this much goodness in your heart?” I can’t help but question him.

In whatever way, he tries to justify his actions, but all I can see is how a good person he is. He was fighting against his Superior, yet he showed his respect to the title. Even after killing him, he paid his respect, not to Burton but his former Superior.

Honestly, if I had been in his place, I would have kicked his corpse to the depth of hell.

“Before meeting Alpha Arthur and Alpha Donovon, I used to believe every Alpha wanted to kill rogues. But they showed me how wrong I was by not only accepting me into their pack but even looking after me like a family.” He kisses my hair, and I can feel his emotion choking up his words.

“I was practically a rogue when Alpha took me into your pack. Your family showed me compassion when no one wanted to overlook the fact that I was a rogue.” He smiles, and then, wrapping his arm around my shoulders he pulls me to his side, “I was shown kindness and respect when nobody believed that I deserved any. So, now I am just trying to give back what I have got in whatever way I can.”

“You are amazing, and I am sure this clan would be so fortunate to have you as their Superior. Because finally, they will know what it means to have a compassionate and kind leader.” Wiping the tear which slips from my eyes, I smile at him, “Everyone would be so proud of you, just like I am.” Lifting my face, I press my lips against his.

“Thank you for replaceing me and liberating me from all my fears.” He whispers against my lips, “I can’t thank you enough for not letting me give up against my fear and supporting me when I felt weak.”

" I will never let you fall weak again; neither you need to fear about anything as long as we are together. Because I love you, and I will always be with you.” Wrapping my arms around him, I kiss him again, letting him know that I mean every word of mine.
