Chapter Five

[Kin’s POV]

I wanted to keep my beautiful little Mate away from everyone but I knew it would not be that way. He was my only love and it had taken me to just simply look at him for him to become so damn important. He needed to be seen by the Pack Doctor again and he would need to eat. I only let Arion heal a few things before shoving him out the door without another word or explanation to anything. I hadn't wanted anyone to know about Ra'ne until he was ready. My little Mate was too fragile at the moment.

“What is your name?” Ra’ne asked me quietly, his soft voice pulling me from my thoughts.

I looked at him a little surprised, I guess I had never managed to introduce myself to him. “My name is Kin. I apologize for not introducing myself earlier, my little ember.” I said with a smile.

“My Wolf tells me that you are our Mate.” Ra’ne said his voice filled with a slight fear. He seems so frightened of everything, even his own shadow.

I could smell his fear and it broke my heart. My poor little Mate was terrified of something and it was bugging me now. “Ra’ne, why are you so afraid, sweet one?” I asked softly, trying to keep my voice gentle. I remained in my desk chair not wanting to scre him even more.

He looked up at me his eyes filled with unshed tears, “I don’t want you to reject me.” he whimpered softly, tears forming in his beautiful ember eyes.

His words had me moving instantly, he was afraid of being rejected by the one person meant to keep him safe, “Oh, sweet one, I have been waiting 10 years for you. I will not reject you; I would be a fool to let someone as beautiful as you go.” I said as I gathered his trembling body into my arms, pulling him close to my chest.

Ra’ne looked up at me through his tear-filled eyes, a sad look in his eyes. “I heard it when you had called for all the unmated Wolves. Alpha Grissa had locked all of the Omegas away in the basement for a week. I was just a little pup but I was already deemed a useless Omega.” he said with a shiver going down his spine.

So, he had been alive then and Grissa had hidden him from me because he was an Omega. I will have to bring this up to my parents later. It will not be good for the Ironclaw Pack when I am done. Then I thought of something, Ra’ne had just said that there had been other Omegas, but when I had gone to get him, he was the only one left. Where were the others?

“Ra’ne, what happened to the other Omegas?” I asked softly as I laid him back down on my bed so he could rest easier.

“Alpha Grissa and the others killed them from all the beatings. Those wires that had been attached to me electrocute any who pass out or fall asleep, it’s a lesson on how to stay away from the others and keep out of sight.” he said softly his eyes downcast afraid to look at me as he spoke. Ironclaw had a lot to answer for, this was just one more thing my Pack could use against them.

Grissa had definitely broken several laws but at the moment I had a Mate to care for. He was far more important. “Ra’ne, please look at me.” I said softly, wanting him to look at me on his own. I knew he was trying to fight with himself because Skie was so strong willed. At least that was what Julius told me. I could tell by the wrinkles that creased his forehead as he seriously thought about my request. My poor conflicted Mate.

Julius explained to me that it was quite entertaining to 'watch' because they were the exact opposite of each other. Ra’ne was very timid and shy while Skie was more assertive and mouthier. I guess it was going to be really easy to tell when Skie took over Ra’ne’s body.

Julius and I were so much alike it was very difficult to tell the difference between the two of us, whenever we switched. We both had a very strong dislike for everyone around us because of the looks we had gotten over the years. Not replaceing one's Mate for 10 years took its toll on any Wolf. We had become cold and distant over the years so I wanted to make sure that I never switched without letting Ra’ne know though.

After a few moments Ra’ne finally looked up at me, a very timid look in his ember eyes, Goddess I was falling in love with those beautiful eyes. “I had no idea Grissa had done any of that or I would have stopped it all long ago. I am here now, please, let me care for you. Let me love you.” I said pleading with him in my own way.

He looked at me soaking in my words and what they meant for him and his future. He knew he would never be alone and he knew he would always be safe. I would protect him with my life and he knew that. At least I hoped he did from the look in my eyes.

“Please don’t hurt me.” He pleaded, softly, still afraid to really trust me.

“Oh, my sweet ember. I could never hurt you. You mean far too much for me to do something so damn stupid like that.” I said, as I bent down to kiss his soft plump lips. "I have searched for you for so long little ember that the very thought of living without you now is terrifying to me." I said as I pulled back slowly to make sure he could see how much I meant every word.
