“Yes, everyone.” “Why?

The festive music got even louder and accompanied by loud cheers that sounded like they came from both men and women. Zane got out of the car and came round to open the door so I could do the same. And then he started to walk towards where the noise was coming from. It was a huge house bigger than all of the other houses around the Main Pack center I’ve noticed since we drove here, I suspected it was the pack house where everyone met to have fun at least twice in a month. Most times, it’s to celebrate an important feat of the pack and other times, it’s for mating rituals. At least that was how it’s done back at my pack. My father, Alpha Reagan didn’t even have to oversee anything as young and hot–blooded wolves dominated such events. However, with the night walkers pack, it was unpredictable. I didn’t know too much about them other than their history of wars successfully fought and won. “We’re going in there?” I asked when Zane seemed like he had his eyes set on the place where the noise was coming from. He paused to look at me. “Yes, everyone is waiting for “Everyone?” I asked, wide–eyed. By everyone, he couldn’t possibly mean the people who owned the voices could hear from that house? It sounded like there were lots of people there. Why would they be waiting for me?

I I didn’t even know them. I was a stranger or to put it more accurately, a trespasser in here. “When you said you would take me round the pack, I didn’t think this was what you meant. Why do I have to go in there?” I prodded. “You have absolutely nothing to worry about. They are kind people and most of them are eager to meet you.” Zane assured me. The night walkers pack members? Kind? How was I supposed to believe that? “Okay, you can leave immediately if you replace it uncomfortable to be around them. I’ll gladly take you back home.” “Are you sure?” “You have my word.” I sucked on my lip as I was slowly becoming a nervous wreck but I had to get it over with. It wouldn’t be bad to know more about the people I’d be staying with till I can finally leave the pack. “Lead the way.” I said to Zane and he was swift in his feet. He led me towards the house. He went in first while I stood outside, still nervous. The music was turned down as he went in. “If it isn’t the mighty Zane!” I heard someone’s loud and slurred praise for the Beta from where I waited outside. Their cheers increased and made me even more nervous. “Where is she? Did you not come with her?” Someone asked above the hoots and noises of the men. It was the voice of a woman much more calmer and soft in contrast to the roughness of the men. Zane then poked his head out and beckoned for me to come in. Slowly, I walked into the house and just as I expected, it was full! Every freaking corner had people in it. It was even higher from inside and still had enough space to contain more people. Their voices all seemed to die down as soon as they saw me. Some of the males who were no doubt warriors had their mates hanging about them. The women were either perched on their laps or standing side by side with them with protective arms around their waists. Others stood alone with bottles and glasses of wine in their hands. All eyes were on me and I wanted the ground to just swallow me whole. I fiddled with my hands because I didn’t even know what else to do. I didn’t know what to say and if I opened my mouth, I was certain air was all I could produce. “Is she the one?” The same voice from earlier that has asked Zane about me broke the silence. I found her in the middle of the room in front of Zane. A tall slender woman with red hair that looked so gorgeous with the lights bouncing on it. Her big brown eyes were

up to kind and her lips stretched into a smile as she looked at me. “Yes.” Zane answered. The woman walked me while I contemplated getting the hell out of there. “She’s beautiful. I see why he chose her.” Who chose who now? “Hi.” She said to me, “Hi.” I whispered back. I looked to Zane’s side as if asking for permission and

direction and “You must be Amber.” “You know my name?” I asked, surprised. “Everyone here does.” She pointed round the room and everyone concurred, nodding. They all had wide smiles on their faces. Definitely not the kind of reception I was expecting. “Amber, my name is Carmen and we are happy to have you join us.” “Err…thank you…” Carmen turned back to the crowd in the room. “Meet Amber everyone! The future of our pack!” She announced and then the loud cheers came again. A man with a huge scowl on his face suddenly came to stand in front of me. He scared me for a moment with they look thinking he was going to attack me but instead, he stretched his hand out for me to shake. “I’m sorry for treating you that way yesterday.” Yesterday? Have we met? I looked closely at him and then I found him familiar. “You…” I said once i realized. He was one of the men who captured me at the borders of the pack and held me to the ground. He chuckled, “Yes, my name is Ezra. Welcome to the Nightwalkers pack, officially and I do hope you do not hold grudges against me.” I didn’t know why he was apologizing to me if it was only right they caught a trespasser. I shook his hand gingerly. “It’s fine.” Carmen dragged me away from Ezra after the handshake, “C’mon, you should meet everyone!”
