Chapter 39

Catalina's POV

I wake up and see Liam just looking at me.

"Morning beautiful." He whispers.

"Morning creeper." I say with a smile. He kisses my nose.

"You're going to be late for training" he says smiling. My heart lurches. I shoot up.

"What time is it?" I ask jumping out of bed.

"Oh goddess." I moan as I see the time. I hear Liam laughing and I throw a shirt at his head. I get dressed fast. I run over to the bed and kiss him. I run out of my room and to my surprise Jet is standing there giving me a face.

"I don't want to hear it." I grab his hand and we race down the stairs and the the training facility. Today Jet wanted me to challenge up to elite today, but I'm not sure if I'm ready. When challenging time comes during training Jet calls my name for elite. The difference between a level challenge and an elite challenge is in a level challenge you fight someone in that level. In an elite you fight against someone else who wants to be in elite. There are levels once you are inside of elite, but you don't get pulled out of elite unless you do something wrong. Jet has me going against some meat head named Keel. This guy was as big as a barn. I looked like a child next to him. I looked up at Jet with annoyed eyes. He just smirked at me. Stupid Jet, probably making a point or something, annoying. We got into our stance and the fight began. Keel moved slowly but with purpose. I could definitely dodge faster than him, but one punch and I'll feel it for days that's for sure. I was honestly afraid to have him land a punch on me. His hands were like boulders. He had to be part giant. But we all know the saying, the bigger they are, the harder they fall.

Keel moves towards me and throws his boulder sized fist at my head, I roll to the side and punch his rib, he barely flinches. This is going to be tough. He reaches toward me and tries to grab me, but I kick him in his knee and it buckles. He stays standing, but this time I see pain in his eyes. I'm going to hit that knee as many times as it takes. He comes at me again, this time a bit faster and lower. He throws a punch and I dodge out of the way, when I feel pain rip through my side. He has punched me in my ribs and I know one is broken. Through the pain, and to get him off guard, I kick the side of his knee and this time he cries out in pain. We both stumble away from each other. Rage comes across his face, and I do everything in my power not to burst into flames. I get back in my stance and so does he. We circle each other and then he lunges at me with his full mass, he's mad, hurt, and making mistakes. I sweep his legs out from under him and he falls forward. He rolls over, but I have my knee on his throat, arm tucked behind him and the other under my other knee. I know he can lift me easily, but I spread out making it harder. He struggles, but to my surprise he taps. I have won. I hear cheering and clapping.

"Congratulations Luna. You are now an elite warrior." Jet yells out across the field.

"The rest of you are dismissed." Jet adds. He comes over beside me and helps me up along with Keel.

"Damn Luna. You're fast. I was worried about hurting you at first, but when you went for my knee I knew I couldn't hold back." Keel said rubbing his neck.

"I glad you didn't hold back. Everyone needs to earn their place." I say. He bows to me and walked away with a slight limp. Jet claps me on the back and laughs.Read more at Narugi.com

"I honestly didn't know how that was going to turn out." Jet said. I glare at him.

"What?" He says laughingly.

"Why would you put me up against that mountain?" I ask, holding my ribs. The pain washes over me.

"You won didn't you? Lina you want people to respect you, fear you. If I put you up against someone small or your size, they would chalk it up to favoritism. Like you said, everyone has to earn their place." I punch him in the shoulder.

"We should get your ribs looked at." He says. I nod in agreement. We headed over to the clinic to get my ribs checked out. The doctor looks me over and orders an x-ray. The doctor tells me I had two cracked ribs, but they aren't cracked all the way through and that I should heal up just fine.

The fun thing is, you can't do much for cracked ribs other than ice, pain meds, and breathing. He gives me some pills and an ice pack. He makes me an appointment to come back tomorrow and I have to skip training, which is annoying.

"You're mad you have to skip training tomorrow, aren't you?" Jet teases as we walk out of the clinic.

"Of course I am. I have to miss my first day of training elite." I fume.

"Hey you'll be healed in no time. One day off will be good for you. You want to go get breakfast?" He asks.

"Can't. I'm late for Luna training as it is." I sigh. We head over the Violet's home. Jet left me and headed back to the pack house and I knocked on the door. Violet answers and over the next 5 hours we go over Luna duties and pack information. Carrie comes over with food and we spend another 3 hours finalizing the ceremony details. I needed to get out of this house. I tell them I was in pain from my ribs and needed to call it a day. I walk like a zombie back to the pack house. I don't look at anyone and head into the cafeteria for food.

I'm starving. I sit down and food is brought to me. I scarf it down. Once I'm not starving I finally look up and see Liam across the cafeteria looking at me. He's just smiling. He sitting at a table with Jet and three other guys. I see Jet lean over to him and whisper something to him. He looks shocked and surprised by whatever Jet tells him. He gets up and walks straight to me.

"Why didn't you tell me you got hurt?" He asks.

"I don't know Liam, but I'm so tired and my side hurts. I just want to go to bed." I give him puppy eyes. His face softens, he picks me up from my chair and carries me bridal style up the stairs and to my room. He lays me in bed. He takes my shoes off, then my pants. He gently takes my shirt off, being careful of my side. He tucks me into bed. He comes around the other side and crawls in next to me. I lay my head on his chest as he pets my head. I drift off to sleep.
