Chapter 42

The man in the room is glowing yellow with hair like fire. Liam cries out in pain and falls beside me. "Liam?" I cry. The man takes a step towards me. I jump back off the bed.

"Child" his voice vibrates through my whole body. Liam writhes in pain on the bed reaching towards me. "Child do you love this man?" The man asks. I look at Liam.

"Yes. Can you help him?" I ask as tears fall from my eyes.

"I accept your sacrifice." He says. Sacrifice?

"Lina what happens next will happen fast. You need to listen to me and do it fast." Kayla says to me. "Kehlani?" The man whispers. He searches my eyes. He looks sad.

"Uncle." Kayla says. The glowing man claps his hands and a loud crack sounds and a rush of heat flowed through me. My head spins and I fall to the ground to steady myself. I close my eyes and I can see a bird, just like I could see Kayla. I still hear Liam cry out again in pain. "Kayla, what's going on?" I ask

"I'll explain when we are safe. You need to get up, get dressed, and get out. NOW!" She tells me. I open my eyes and the man is gone. I get up and see Liam in the bed, where I bit him is glowing and his skin it turning red. I grab clothes and head towards the door. I look back at Liam.

"What did I do Kayla?" I ask as tears fall from my eyes.

"I'm sorry Lina, trust me. Get out and text Jet." Kayla says. As I leave the room I can still hear Liam. I race down the hall and text Jet. As I make it out of the pack house I see Carrie headed towards me.

"You bit*h! What have you done?" Her face is twisted in pain. I turn back to the pack house and see Jet running out. Then another loud crack and the roof of the pack house breaks open and a beam of light shoots up to the sky. Carrie falls to the ground screaming in pain. A fire breaks out from the pack house. I look back at Carrie.

"You aren't his cousin."

"We don't have time for this. Shift!" Kayla says. I get undressed and shift. Jet follows. Kayla picks up my clothes and we run into the trees. We aren't headed towards the boarder like I thought we would be, but instead we're headed towards a building. It's the prison. There are two guards standing outside the building.

"Luna. I'm sorry but you can't come in." One guard says. Kayla growls. The guards look at each other.

"I'm sorry but Alpha said not to let you in." The other guard says. Then Jet comes up next to me and growls. The guards back away and take off in different directions. I shift back and get dressed. Jet and I head down into the cells.

"3rd cell on the left." Kayla says. I walk down the row of cells and stop at the 3rd one. I look in and see a man laying in the back of the cell.

"Hello?" I say and the man sits up. He walks to the gate and it's Raymond, Andrew's father! What? What is going on?

"Lina." His voice is scratchy and horse.

"What are you doing here? How do I get you out?" I ask looking around. Jet points to a key on the wall.

"Did you know about this?" I hiss at him in anger.

"No I knew about him." He says and points to two cells over. I walk over to the cell he points to and leaning up against the wall is Jackson. I look back at Jet shocked.

"Hey little mouse." Jackson says. I feel my rage inside me rise.

"Lina we don't have time. Get Raymond out. We need to leave before those guards bring everyone here." Kayla says. She's right.

"We'll talk about this later." I say to Jet. I grab the key off the wall and unlock Raymond's cell. I could tell he was weak.

"Can you shift?" I asked

"I'm too weak." He says

"Then you'll just have to ride me. Can you hold on?" I ask him. He nods. I shift into Kayla and Jet helps him on my back. We head out of the prison.

"You're just going to leave me here little mouse?" Jackson calls out to us. I let out a low growl. When we got out of the building, Jet shifted and we took off towards the boarder. I let Jet lead the way, he knows the boarder patrols and their routes. He leads us through the land and we slip off the boarder. We run for a bit before taking a rest. Jet helps Raymond off of me and I shift back. We sit Raymond down.

"We will rest for a bit while we figure out where we're going." I say.

"The airport." Raymond says. "Kayla told us." He adds.

"How far is that?" I ask Jet

"It's a bit of a ways away. But if we push ourselves, we could get there by morning." Jet says. He glances over at Raymond.

"Don't worry about me. I can make it." Raymond says. I grab Jet's arm and pull him away from Raymond's ear shot.

"Ok tell me what you know." I say to Jet. He takes a deep breath.

"When we got to Jackson's land, Liam told me to hold back our warriors and let Francis take the first wave. From where I was it looked like Jackson's warriors were waiting for us, like he knew the attack was coming. Francis lost most of his warriors that day. We went in after that and cleared the field and took Jackson back to our cells. I know Liam was going to tell you Jackson got away. I think Liam's plan was to take over Jackson's and Francis' packs by taking out all of their defenses." Jet says.

"And Carrie?" I asked.

"Carrie was Liam's mate." He says.

"I don't understand why she would pretend to be my friend? Why wouldn't she reject him?" I ask.

"She tried, but Liam wouldn't accept the rejection." He said. I looked at him confused.

"Because Liam is an Alpha, and a powerful at that, he has to accept the rejection." He explains. If he had a mate, what did I feel?

"Kayla?" I want answers.

"Soon. We are still in danger. We need to keep going." She says.

"We need to head out. Raymond are you ok to keep going?" I asked.

"I'm ready." He says standing. I shifted and Raymond got on my back. We ran for hours, taking two more breaks for Raymond. The sun was starting to rise when we reached the airport. We shifted back and helped Raymond to the runway. When we got close a smell ran through the air. It smelled like the forest, like..Andrew. I shoot my head up and see a plane. Andrew's sitting on the steps with his head in his hands. My heart and stomach drop and lurch. I'm excited and nauseous all at the same time. Raymond must feel it. "Go to him." He whispers to me. Andrew must have smelled me too because his head shoots up and looks right towards us. I don't think, I run right towards Andrew. I jump into his arms and wrap my legs around him. Tears pour out of my eyes as I feel our electricity and connection.

"My love." He whispers into my hair. I squeeze him tight at his words. He still loves me? Being in his arms is like being home, complete.

"Andrew I'm so sorry. Please forgive me. Don't leave me again." I sob into his neck. He just holds me tight. He gets me to pull back and looks me in the eyes.

"Lina I will never leave you again. I love you." He leans his forehead against mine. He cups my face and kisses me. His kiss was sweet and familiar. The sparks I'm feeling with Andrew makes me realize what I felt with Liam was not the mate bond. I hear Jet clear his throat, drawing our attention. Andrew sets me down on the ground.

"This is Jet. He helped us escape. Jet this is my true mate Andrew." Andrew holds out his hand to Jet.

"Thank you." Andrew says shaking Jets hand.

"Dad" Andrew hugs his dad.

"Let's get out of here." Andrew helps his dad on the plane. Jet and I follow them on the plane.
