ELEANOR

“Daddy...” I whisper, still in disbelief.

“Get her changed, Mike. Make sure she looks a million dollars before the enemy arrives or so helpme..." Dad gave Mike a meaningful look then pointed a finger right at me.

Mike didn't say a word but gave him a nod in response. Dad turned around, his hands on hispockets as he walked back towards his office without sparing me another glance.

I stared at mom who seemed to have forgotten about me and just returned to the couch, readingher magazine.

“Mom. Can you at least tell me what's going on? Is it true?” I yelled out in frustration. Mike grabbedme from the back, gripping both my wrists to take under his full control.

“Mom!” I called out but she didn't look back and continued reading. Like she didn't give two shitsabout me at all.

“Please, mom" It was my last ditch attempt to gain her full attention. My voice squeaked a little andwith a sigh, I dropped my head.

My mother suddenly lifted her face up to look at me straight in the eye.

“Eleanor, will you be quiet? I can't read my magazine because of your pathetic whining.” She thenreturned her eyes to the paper she’s holding while Mike aggressively pulled me from behind, grabbing my wrists before dragging me into the halls back to my old room. Remnants of myshattered heart scattered on the floor while my body was being dragged away from her. Lifting myhead, I stared long and painful at my Mom, who neither looked up nor moved a single inch fromher spot. Tears welled up in my eyes and I pressed my lips tightly together in a bid to hold themback.

No. I won't cry.

At least, not in front of Mike.

I couldn't catch up. My feet started to hurt badly as I continued to stumble on the way back.

He shoved me forcefully inside my room and threw me like garbage on my king-sized bed.

“I'll be waiting at the door for no more than five minutes. Once I enter the room you better be inthat fucking dress! You hear me?!” Mike spatted at my face. He points a finger at the dress I tossedto the floor and threw me a threatening look. One that told me he was going to kill me if I don't.

I couldn't do anything now but nod. When he left the room, I chewed my lip trying desperately tohold back the tears. My eyes stung and I closed them shut, not wanting to allow them to spillwithout my consent.

“Ares, did you see the way he looked at me? Did his eyes always reflect that same hatred anddisgust all this time?’ I asked my wolf, frustrated.

“Everything is not always what it seems to be, Eleanor. Right now, we need to get the hell out ofhere. You heard them. We're nothing but a pawn,’ She told me urgently. I felt Ares pacing back andforth in my mind, panicking.

The conversation I heard between my parents in Dad's office came rushing back to me as well as theadrenaline.

I looked around the room when my eyes dropped to the large window right in front of me.Gulping, I peer out the window, and found that there was a roof just below it that can catch me.Roofs that led all the way to the first floor. Then it would be an easy jump. No one will be aroundbecause all pack members are currently preparing the alpha’s arrival

I was in the third floor, and it was still high up because of the high ceilings that elevated thebuilding much higher than a regular three-story house.

I drew in a sharp breath and exhaled, washing away my frustration the moment I found a newconfidence with my wolf. Although I was hurting, I chose to ignore the shooting pain of my parents’words and focused on one single, ultimate goal. Escape.

Once again, I looked closer to the large glass window before me.

'You thinking what I'm thinking?" I asked my wolf.

'What? You're gonna jump off there? Hell yeah!" Ares jumped inside me out of excitement.“Chances of survival?’ I ask my wolf one last time.

It took Ares a few seconds before she could answer.

“Probably 60/40." She shrugged. You got this, Eleanor. Think of the future waiting for us out there.Think about how we must never meet our mate. Think about our curse. We got to do this’ Ares saidfurther.

Inhaling a deep breath, I close my eyes and pray to the moon goddess we'll be alright and goingdown in one piece. I hope.

Slowly, I opened the window. I slid down my feet first until it reached the roof. Once I did I thenclosed the window from the outside, ducking so that I wouldn't be seen when Mike comes back inmy room.

The roof creaked as I carefully made large steps forward

"ELEANOR!!!" I heard Mike seemingly explode with how he shouted my name loudly that it echoedreaching the forest.

I was already in the second floor, ducking the windows and skipping the damaged parts of the roof.Reaching the first floor, I took a deep breath then jumped to the ground. It wasn't a good landingbecause if it was, I wouldn't land on my butt. I struggled to get up. Grunting, I picked my body fromthe ground and almost immediately ran into the woods with my backpack swinging over myshoulder.

I heard the sound of doors slamming open and a bunch of warriors shifting into their wolves. WhenI looked back running, I saw Mike's wolf leading the whole group of wolves chasing after me.Adrenaline coursed through my veins and Ares kept encouraging me to run faster than I could.Faster like my life depended on it. Faster like my life would come to an end if I didn't.

'Run, Eleanor!" Ares shouted, though I could feel she wants to be set free to take us further into theforest herelf. But my things, my clothes, I'd need them if I even escape from these men.

“Let me out, I can outrun them!"

“No, I can't let you out! You know that!"

'“But--*

'If they saw you now, we'll be running for the rest of our lives!"

I forced my feet to move incredibly fast, hoping they wouldn't catch me by the time I lost all mystrength.

I was desperate. Now that I know Mike wasn't lying with what he said before, I wanted to get out ofthere as fast as I possibly could.

I had never felt the desire to leave the only place I've known my entire life more than I do now. I feltlike 1 didn't belong.

But no, I'd be lying to myself if I tell you I haven't felt that way ever since. It had always been likethat. After that night, I basically became the total freak to every one of them. I thought the onlyones who never did think of me as a freak were my very own parents.

But as it turns out, everything has been a lie. An illusion too good to be true. My whole life, the loveof my parents, my hopes of becoming the alpha female in my pack so I could one day protect them, were nothing but dust that was once there, but soon blown away by the wind.

My fate was sealed the minute I saw myself in that mirror. But I was stupid enough to believeeverything will work out just fine, even with all the abuse I've put up with from Mike as well as therest of the pack. My pack.

I'll be able to endure it all. To stay and bite my tongue in every jolt of pain shot through my bodyfrom Mike's beatings, every single day. All for Mom and Dad.

Now it's funny they turned out to be the very reason I'm running from these wolves.

Running and never looking back.

The thing is, when I did look back, I tripped over a large tree root that was arched a little upwards. Agasp escaped my lips and I fall face-first on the hard, dirty ground. Grunting, I shrugged off everybit of pain now torturing my body from the fall and commanded myself to stand up. But before Ieven got to take another step and run, Mike's wolf suddenly flew right above my head, landing onhis strong grey paws in front of me while the other wolves surrounded me completely.

Each angle I turn to left me no space or route for an escape. I picked up a fallen branch on theground and swung it at the wolves growling at me. Slowly, they were advancing with their paws, likepredators stalking their prey. My heart hammed wildly in my chest. In my mind I was seeing redflags being thrown all around me as they approached.

What do I do?

“Let me go!” With shaking hands, I grip the edge of the branch and point it at them hoping theywould at least feel the threat.

They paid no heed to my request and ignored my frustration while I practically begged them to letme go.

Mike growled, his eyes warning me dangerously, making me gulp and take a step back. He cameforward and shifted back into his human form.

His eyes never left mine and I watched as he became taller and taller until he reached his originalsize.

"How dare you run away, you filthy human” He spat the words straight at my face with an extremelydisgusted voice. I flinched holding onto my stick for dear life.

Before I even opened my mouth to speak he grabbed me by the throat, instantly choking me as helifted me in the air with one hand and his claws gripping me tightly around my neck. I couldn'tbreathe. I couldn't speak and the only thing I could do was claw at his hands to beg for release. Myonly weapon slipping away from the tip of my fingers as I tried to loosen his grip.

"P-Please! I beg you...don't...make me...go!"

You have no idea know what I would do! What the curse would make me do!

I felt a sudden jolt of pain shoot through my body as Mike's fist collided with my stomach. He did ita couple more times until I was left clutching my stomach on the cold, hard ground. Groaning andcrying in unbearable pain. I tasted blood and felt the bloody liquid escape from my mouth, slidingdown slowly to my cheeks. The side of my face was pressed to the dirty ground and I couldn't movefrom the intense pain in my stomach.

It hurt so bad that my body curled on its own to shield my stomach from taking any more blows. My eyes closed slowly after I looked up at the man staring down on me in disgust and loathe.

The next moment I felt surrounded by wolves. Raindrops fell on my skin and the coldness startedseeping in, making my body tremble uncontrollably on the cold ground

All that happened after that seemed to have went by in a daze.

I woke up in my bed wearing that red velvet dress. When I looked at the mirror, I saw that I waswearing makeup, and it was just the right amount to enhance my natural beauty and bring out thecolor of my eyes. All my bruises were gone now, too.

The door abruptly burst open in my room. Mike just came in to pick me up.

"Come with me, Eleanor.” He says, grinning from ear to ear. I shuddered as my eyes caught his lipscurve in that way, creeping me out as if what's about to happen was something...horrible.

I don't know what's gotten into him but he lends me his arm. I took it, then regretted it the verynext second.

He led me inside a meeting room. As soon as we entered, I felt a pair of eyes on me so I scannedthe room to replace who it belonged to

My eyes circled the room until I locked eyes with the most handsome man I've seen in my entire life. For a moment, everything went in slow motion.
