Alpha's Human Luna -
Chapter 54
I wasn't born into this pack, did you know? Jessica asks, her back to me.
My brows wrinkle as I realize I always imagined Jessica was a Golden Stone Packer. "I thought you lived here."
Jessica turns away from the oil painting and confronts me, smiling on her face. I wonder why she smiles.
"I lived inSouth velly with a tiny, struggling pack. David's father Feru visited my pack family when he was eighteen, nearly nineteen."
"I felt anxious and sensitive to everything.. My hopes and ambitions altered when Feru and his father crossed my border, Susan. We mated and stayed together until he had to go, and he invited me home."
"I bid farewell to my pack's customs and relatives. I know you felt when I met you, Susan. Torn from your family and all you knew, you felt disoriented. But you have more growing to do, which is problematic. So that you know, I see myself in you."
"I see a lady who will stop at nothing to have her way. "I picture you growing into a great Luna who will help this pack change."
Jessica grins her trademark motherly smile, causing me to cry. I had no idea how much I needed support.
My voice is scratchy and harsh from suppressed emotions. My throat shuts as I struggle to hold back my tears, but Jessica sees. She comes to my aid, wrapping her arms around me. My throat clears and I blink away my tears.
"No sobbing," she replies, her hands on my shoulders. "Get it, girl?" I know Jessica is mocking, "Good. I'll bring books to study at the pack home. David believes in learning by experience, but as his mother, I must disagree. Particularly after these incidents. "
"Link me first?"
Jessica chuckles and leans back. "OK," she replies, releasing my shoulders. So let's serve ourselves and the two guys breakfast. "They'll be hungry when they return."
My brows wrinkle. "How do you know?"
So, Jessica and Feruremained here after their mating ritual?
Jessica says, "They're probably on the run," a dish on the counter." As my kid knows, Hunter dislikes losing to him, and my son hates losing to Hunter."
"OK. So we'll fix-" I study Jessica's components, but nothing comes to mind.
"Pancakes! Bring out the eggs from the fridge."
A total of four plates are placed on the little table. I love picturing David and Hunter at the table. Their large bodies will take up a lot of space.
Jessica puts butter and a butter knife on the table. My body heats, and I know David is nearing the cabin. I stay put. I'm at the head of the table, staring at the pancakes.
Be safe, I suppose. Seconds later, two heavy footfalls struck the hardwood floorboards.
My back faces the kitchen entry, and I feel David's burning stare on my back. His look warms my blood even more.
"Susan," David mumbles.
His sweet voice chills my hot body. I glance back and breathe, relieved.
Aside from the cuts, David's skin appears unblemished. He's alright but dirty and snowy. My brows rise as I completely turn around and face my mate.

Hunter smirks as he passes by David's Alpha. "He lost," Hunter brags proudly. David growls in return, closing the gap. Hands hold my waist and my gaze shifts to David's. "You're fine? Is it fine?" I'm concerned.
My hand goes for David's pointed chin, urging him to look at me, not his Beta. His fury softens as his blue eyes flash to mine. "It's OK. Hunter told me. After his patrol duty today, he'll be discharged." "But-"
David sneers at me and leans in to give me a hot, brief kiss. My hips are pinched as David mumbles, "Come eat. I'm hungry, "my lips parted.
I know David isn't only hungry from his grip on my hips and the closeness of our bodies.
After cleaning up the filthy dishes and washing the bedding, Jessica, David, and I depart for the lonely cluster of log houses. Hunter transforms from a human to a wolf. Even though this light brown wolf is more petite than David's black wolf, I'm aware of Hunter's sharp fangs, broad legs, and enormous paws.
Hunter's wolf yips at us and starts his patrol shift.
Returning home takes as long as going to the log cabin. Every stride I take drags my legs back, but David won't let me trail behind him.
"I'll meet you," I say, huffing and puffing in the snow, my heated breath freezing in a mist outside my lips.
David grabs my gloved hand and starts walking with me in the snow. "I won't abandon you."
Every time I nearly fall, David is there. His grip tightens as I fight through the deep snow. The benefit I've discovered about wolves is that they can walk over the snow without difficulty.

My foot is virtually trapped in the snow. I scream in anguish and grab David's hand, pulling with all my limited might. I can almost feel David's joy pouring from him.
"Stop joking." I snarl again, hoping my foot doesn't get caught again.
"No, sweetie, I'm not." He chuckles.
I roll my eyes so hard my head hurts. "When the pack's money stabilizes, I'm getting a blasted snowmobile to escape this hell."
"Great concept!" Jessica glances over and nods her head in agreement.
I halt walking and smugly gaze up at David. "It'll happen," I tell David online.
No doubts from me. His voice is soothing and tender for just me. His beautiful eyes make my tummy quiver. I believe I'll tell him. I envision David's blue eyes shining and a grin spreading over his face as I say I love you. We eventually arrive at the packhouse. Jessica and David go up the porch steps and inside the packhouse without caring.
Those porch stairs.
Jessica enters and starts removing her winter coat and scarf, leaving the front door open for David and me. I'm at the foot of the stairs, dreading the four steps to the front door.
David stares back, a sly grin on his face. My eyes roll. He's already there. Stupid wolf genes.
