Alpha's One Night Bride
Alpha’s One Night Bride – Chapter 73

Jonathan, Jess, Rock, Melissa, Boris, and Nikini were all staring in our direction as we approached them. Ronnie had called out to stop her mother from attacking Nikini and Boris; it looked as though it was about to get ugly.

After the initial shock went across Jonathan’s, it was replaced with anger as he registered that I was standing right there. I wasn’t going to let him fight all these people without my help. I wanted to do my part and help keep my family safe, just as much as he did. It was wrong for him to keep me in the shadows.

“Arina,” Jonathan growled, storming over to me. “What are you doing here?”

“I came to help,” I told him.

“You were supposed to stay with Erick and keep Emee safe,” Jonathan hissed.

“Emee is fine,” I assured him.

“You mean to tell me the kid isn’t even here?” Rock shouted.

“Rock and Melissa, you are under arrest for an attempted kidnapping,” Boris announced, revealing a couple of sets of handcuffs.

“Oh, they did a lot more than that,” I said, staring directly at Melissa.

She frowned and took a step back; now all eyes were facing Melissa; I finally had her where I wanted her, and I wasn’t letting her get out of here without telling her that I knew everything. I needed her and everyone here to feel the wrath I felt deep in my soul.

I could still feel the warmth of the moon’s rays on my back, indicating that my mother was watching. I wanted to make her proud; I wanted to get justice for her death.

With every fiber of my being, I hated Melissa. I hated Rock even more for all the torment he put my mother through. If it wasn’t for him, she would still be alive right now. But she wasn’t. Yet he was. It wasn’t fair. None of it seemed fair.

The warmth only grew stronger, and I knew my mother was trying to calm me down.

“Go ahead, Melissa,” I coaxed. “Tell them what you did. Tell them how you killed my mother. Tell them how you killed Emlin.”

There was a round of gasps, even a fake one from Rock. I just rolled my eyes and stared directly at her reddened face.

She was silent for a long while but then she finally answered.

“Alright fine,” Melissa muttered. “I did. I killed Emlin.”

She wasn’t even going to try and deny it. I stepped forward with my fists clenched but Jonathan had a hold of my arm so I couldn’t go any further. He was worried about what I might do; rightfully so.

“Why?” I hissed through gritted teeth.

“Because I wanted to be the bride of the Alpha!” She shouted. “It wasn’t fair that Emlin got Rock and I only had Rock sometimes. We both had his children and he always told me that loved me and wanted to be with me. He told me he wanted to be a family with Ronnie and me and start a new life together. He kept promising that he was going to leave her and be with me. But those promises kept getting pushed further and further away.”

Tears were falling from her eyes as she spoke, her voice cracking under pressure.

“He told me, as long as he was married, we could never be together. So, I took that as an opportunity and got my hands on wolfsbane to poison Emlin’s tea,” Melissa finished in a sob.

“How did you obtain wolfsbane?” Boris shot her a question; his voice hard and displeased.

“I don’t remember his name,” she answered.

“Try,” Boris is said firmly.

He was definitely over this shit.

“I don’t know,” Melissa cried. “He was some wolf I met in Onyxfang.”

“What?” Ronnie breathed, her expression hardening as she stared at her mother.

This was the first time in a few months that Ronnie has faced her mother. Melissa looked at Ronnie and her expression softened as realized all that has been said. It was a lot to process, and I didn’t blame Ronnie if she wanted to run to the hills and go back to the Erick. But I was staying to help Jonathan protect our daughter.

Though, it seemed as though things here were beginning to wrap up. I’m not entirely sure what just happened between Nikini, Boris, Rock, and Melissa; but it seemed as though Nikini and Boris were on our side after all.

It came as a huge relief knowing that I put my trust in somebody and didn’t get made to look stupid. At one point my mother trusted Boris, she loved him and trusted him to care for me. If she was willing to leave me in the Conway manor to be cared for by Boris and Nikini, did that mean she trusted Nikini as well?

It didn’t seem as though Nikini was someone to trust, then again it looked as though she was on our side and helping to fight off Rock.

It still didn’t make sense to me though; things weren’t adding up. I know I spoke to my mother; I know it wasn’t just a dream and that it really happened. She was warning me away from Silverside; it was clear that she was talking about Nikini and Boris.

My question is: why?

“My entire life, I looked up to you,” Ronnie said, tears filling her eyes as she looked at her mother with utter disgust. “I loved you and thought that everything you did was in my best interest.”

“Ronnie…” Melissa whispered, taking a step closer; Ronnie recoiled and took a step back.

“Don’t…” Ronnie hissed. “You are not my mother. Everything you did was because of your own selfish reasons. Arina and I wasted years of being apart because of you both. Those were the times we were supposed to be sisters; a family. But we weren’t allowed that. Instead, we were kept apart until Arina had no other choice but to hate me.”

Ronnie wiped her tears with the back of her hand; her l*p was quivering, and she looked exhausted. I was proud of her though; I was proud that she was finally standing up to her mother and saying everything that’s been holding in for so long. I was proud she was taking a stand for what was right and being in my corner. I was proud of the things she was saying to Melissa. I was proud to call her my sister.

Jess looked shocked at the things that Ronnie was saying. I know they had a rocky start-up with Jess accusing Ronnie of working with Rock and Melissa. I had to admit, for a long time, I was skeptical of Ronnie’s intentions myself. Until I realized that Ronnie was just like me. She was stuck in this home for so long and she felt as though she didn’t have a voice.

She spent her days scared and without anyone to talk to. I had Jonathan at least when I was growing up and then I had Jessica once I left Ironclaw. I had a small group of friends and until I was 7 years old, I had a mom that loved me very much and only wanted to protect me and love me.

Ronnie never had any of that. She didn’t even have a sister she could turn to and cry to when needed. I couldn’t help but feel guilty for all of that. But I was so glad that she was in my life now and that she finally found her mate.

Even though Ronnie was much younger than Erick, I could tell just how much they care for one another. I had known Erick for a long time, and I had never seen him look at another wolf the way he looks at Ronnie. It fills my heart with such love and joy knowing that they found each other and are working towards something bigger than both of them combined.

I know my mother is still watching us and she’s rooting for us to win this battle. Not that it’s much of a battle anymore and more of a confession circle. But I could also feel how much love and admiration my mother feels. It’s written in the stars that surround the moon.

The moon was bold and beautiful, just as my mother always was and always will be.

“And you…” Ronnie turned her attention to Rock. “You aren’t my father. I want nothing to do with either of you.”

I was even more proud of her for that; I had to keep myself from smiling. Jonathan tensed from beside me as Rock’s l*p curled up in a nasty snarl. He was glaring at Ronnie and me, trying to figure out which one to either address first, or attack first.

He took a hard step toward us; Jonathan was in front of us instantly for protection. Thankfully, before any fighting commenced, Boris was at Rock’s side. He cuffed his arms in a tight set of handcuffs, which also made it impossible for Boris to change into his werewolf form. The cuffs also weakened him slightly, so he was much less intimidating.

Now it was my turn to smile, curling my l*p up in disgust at Rock. Boris made his way to Melissa and did the same to her. I was surprised she didn’t struggle but relieved they were finally captured and would be rotting in the Grey Howler Prison of Silverside.

I still had more questions, especially for Nikini and Boris, but it seemed as though it was going to have to wait another day. Nikini gave Jess another looks before taking off and following Boris. Jess still stood there looking as shocked as when I arrived. I could tell it was a lot for her to unpack. I wasn’t even fully sure what happened with her and Nikini before I arrived.

I know they had a history.

As Nikini passed me she looked me over carefully. She paused beside me.

“We will talk later,” she said, and then she kept walking.
