Chapter 10

Augustus watched how Alexis smiled at every small thing Alpha Andrew said, her eyes crinkling into the shape of a half–crescent moon, making her even more appealing.

Now that he looked at her, wasn’t she really beautiful? One of a kind? His heart ached a little at the absence of her attention on him, and he cleared his throat as soon as the waiter brought the desserts for them.

He noticed how Alexis didn’t order anything for her and he slid his desert towards her.

This desert is a specialty of this restaurant. Do you remember it? Augustus said, looking at her hopefully.

He noticed how Alexis’s smile froze and she looked at the dessert before looking at him. There was a hint of mockery in her eyes that made his calm demeanor immediately change.

What was wrong? Did she not like this kind of dessert? But he remembered bringing her here when his grandfather wanted to dine with her and she had eaten it when he had ordered it at that time.

Could it be that she wasn’t eating it because she was angry?

A sigh escaped his mouth.

“Can you not take out your anger on food?” Augustus asked and Alexis scoffed.

She was about to speak when Andrew beat her to it.

“I have heard about how pathetically you treated her in the two years of marriage, but I couldn’t believe an Alpha like you could stoop so low. However, seeing your negligence here, I can see what I heard was right. Do you want to kill her!” Andrew asked, his gaze darkening.

Augustus furrowed his brows.

“Alpha Andrew, just because I respect you doesn’t mean you can say anything to me. Don’t forget who I am,” Augustus said, and Andrew glared even harder.

“Why? Has what I said hit home? Don’t you know Alexis is allergic to walnuts to the point she loses her breath and can die if not treated within a few minutes?” Andrew asked, his words shocking the man in front of them.

Augustus sat there frozen in his place and looked at Alexis, seeking confirmation, but seeing her averting her gaze, he knew what Andrew was saying was true.

But how was that possible? He clearly remembered Alexis eating it happily.

“But she ate it before Augustus let the sentence trail.

Andrew scoffed.

“Well, what can I say about that? She was stupid enough to eat anything given to her in the name of love. It takes around half an hour to react, and judging from the kind of man you are, I am sure you never stayed that long with her, Andrew said.

Augustus couldn’t speak anything after that.

Why? Because that day he had indeed left after five minutes in the name of having a meeting.

That night Alexis had returned home quite late. He even accused and asked Alexis if she was spending her time outside with some other rich man because she liked her pockets thick and legs spread open.

His hists clenched, thinking about the situation.

He didn’t want to dine with her anymore and make her feel more uncomfortable. He was disgusted with himself.

“I am done,” Alexis stood before he could, and Andrew immediately stood with her.

“I will drop you, Andrew said.

Alexis gave Augustus one last look before she left with the alpha, leaving Augustus deep in her thoughts.

What was the truth and what was the lie, everything was confusing now.

She was the one who said herself she wanted him for money, fame, and name, and love wasn’t even in her dictionary, that she hated the mate bond, so why would she risk her life for him, to appease him?

“Are you okay?” Andrew asked Alexis as soon as they walked out of the restaurant and sat in the car, and Alexis, who was dazed, immediately nodded.

She was still having a hard time understanding what her ex–husband wanted from her. He never cared about if she had breakfast or dinner and now she saw him twice in the last 12 hours. It wasn’t some kind of coincidence.

“I will be fine. I have one surgery scheduled today. Can you speed up? I would like to review a few things first,” Alexis said and Andrew nodded before he took her to the hospital.

Meanwhile, Augustus went straight to his company, his mind swamped with the thoughts of his wife who returned like a wave of tsunami and destroyed all his beliefs of what he knew.

“Alpha, should I send someone to pack your belongings?” Mark walked to Augustus, and the man looked at his.

subordinate.

“For what?” He asked.

Mark furrowed his brows. This question was so out of character for his alpha.

“Sir, we need to leave in an hour for the meeting. The meeting is in the States. You said to book three tickets for you, me, and Marianna, Mark reminded him, and Augustus closed his eyes, frustrated.

Right. How could he forget he had scheduled the meeting for today?

But with Alexis here and him having only 15 days to persuade her to stay, could he really afford to leave for five days? “You guys leave without me, Augustus said.

Mark, who was arranging the documents for Augustus to sign, froze..

“Pardon, sir,”

“I said you both leave. I will be staying back, Augustus said at the same time, Marianna walked inside the office room. without knocking

“I didn’t know my leniency had made my subordinates forget basic manners. Don’t you know how to knock?” Augustus said, slightly enraged because it was somehow his involvement with Marianna that angered Alexis too. It was about time he created a distance and proper boundary between everything.

Marianna, who had never been called by Augustus like this, felt flustered and muttered a quick apology.

“Alpha, I was here to ask for permission to stay back. I am actually feeling quite unwell,” Marianna said, and Augustus

looked at Mark, who pressed his lips into a thin line but didn’t say anything nonetheless.

His beta never liked his friendship with Marianna from the very beginning.

“Nothing can be done. You must go, Marianna. There are hospitals in the States too. You are my friend, but you’re my employee too,” Augustus said.

“But Alpha, you know I can’t” Marianna started helplessly, but Augustus already left the room to attend his meeting.

“Liam, where is the red file I asked you to place in my office? I didn’t see it there,” Augustus asked.

Liam looked at Mark for help as soon as he saw the guy entering the room

“Sir, didn’t you ask Roxy to send the file to your house?” Mark asked, and Augustus, who remembered reading that file, sighed.

He was really being a bit too forgetful.

“Should I bring the file, sir?” Liam offered, but Augustus shook his head.

“It’s okay. I was leaving for some time anyway. Postpone my meeting for the day. I need some time, Augustus said and

left the office.

He drove aimlessly for some time before reaching the Moon Sin residential area.

“Oh, you are right on time, the alpha is already here,” the guards said as he waved for him, and Augustus rolled down

his window

He looked at the old man who looked like he belonged to some kind of courier service, but was too old to work.

“What is it?” Augustus asked.

“Sir, this man here keeps on coming and asking us if he could meet a woman named Alexis. It has been 8 times already. We have sent him away so many times, yet he returns with just one excuse. That woman has given your home address to him. Someone from the office usually handles him whenever we try to contact you, but this time… The guard explained.

“Sir, could it be the girl who came to live in your house four years ago? The other guard said, and Augustus looked at the elderly man.

He got out of the car and looked at the man.

“What do you want to meet Alexis for? Augustus asked, his stance a little dominating as he wasn’t sure what kind of intentions this man had in his heart.

The elderly man smiled.

“Yes. L… I wanted to thank her and wondered if I could meet her just once. I am already old and don’t know how long I will live anymore. Only once, I wanted to meet her to express my gratitude, the man said, his words confusing Augustus.

Gratitude? For what?

“For what? I know her, Augustus said, and the man’s eyes immediately lit up..

“Can you give this acknowledgment to her? I would really love a reply from her,” The man said before he turned around and left.

SEND GET

Chapter 10

Augustus looked at the envelope with raised brows.

“He always comes and leaves such an envelope. The guards said.

Augustus walked to the side and opened the envelope, his eyes widening when he saw what it was.

This…

The acknowledgment letter for a $10 million donation from Alexis Dimitri to the Mystique Moon’s Children

organization?

What the hell was this? He stood frozen in his place.
