Chapter 5

Adam’s POV

“Are y

you really letting her go like this, huh? She insulted me…. me…. your Luna” Rachel asked me in an aggressive tone, filled with taunt while throwing the pillow at me angrily. I glared hard at her and went straight to bed. “Ahhh, she screamed when I pulled her hair back while gripping them hard.

“I told you not to mess with any member here. Can’t you just follow one instruction?” I yelled at her while pulling her hair

hard.

“You are hurting me,” she yelled at me while trying to remove my grip on the back of her head. “Yes, I am hurting you, because you forgot what is at stake here. Don’t forget that we will both go down together if anyone comes to know the truth,” I answered her angrily.

She glared hard at me but didn’t say anything again. I leaned on her face while seething in anger. I didn’t have the patience to deal with her arrogance.

“Listen to me one last time, Rachel. Don’t give my father any reason to stop me from getting the alpha position. He loves the pack and the pack members more than me. Getting the alpha position is my dream, and if he refuses to give it to me just because of you, then I will not even think once before throwing you out of the pack. So, act smartly and try to win everyone’s trust in you,” I threatened her and then threw her backward. She screamed but didn’t utter a single word.

I stormed out of the room in anger, without paying attention to her screaming. She could fend for herself without needing

  1. me.

“Wow…. What a wonderful, Luna you have, Alpha Adam…. Full of herself,” my wolf, Neo, taunted me, increasing my anger.

I didn’t stop anywhere and ran towards the forest. I needed a run, but I didn’t shift. I ran with all my strength. I stopped near the cliff and lay down on the ground. It was already evening, and the darkness had started consuming the surroundings. I stared at the dark sky blankly.

Both Rachel and I were ambitious and wanted to achieve something bigger than just being an alpha and Luna of a pack. Our packs were not so strong, and all we wanted was power and to become the most powerful couple. By combining the assets of both packs, we would be able to enter the top 10 strong packs.

I sighed and closed my eyes. Crystal’s smiling face once again came in front of my closed eyes. Why has she been chosen to be my fated mate? She wasn’t wolfless, but she didn’t shift. It meant that she was weak, weaker than a normal wolf. This was what I was telling myself to comfort myself that I did the right thing.

I didn’t regret rejecting her, still I had this uneasy feeling at the back of my mind. Why did my father and her father want to send her away? Finding a mate was just an excuse. Why didn’t they want her to meet the prince? I sighed and opened my eyes because these questions were messing with my mind.

Theo Blakefield, the future alpha of the Crescent Moon Pack, is Crystal’s cousin. They were cousins, still, I didn’t like their Interaction. They talked as if they were lovers. She also said those three magic letters to him How could she do that? Like everyone else, Crystal and her family also believed in fated mates. There was no way that she would have a romantic relationship with anyone, at least not with an alpha. Theo was not dumb to take a weak wolf as his lover. My heart skipped a beat when a horrible idea crossed my mind. What if Crystal gets her second chance mate in the Crescent Moon Pack? What would I then do? This nagging feeling of wanting to keep her here was getting stronger in my mind.

I looked around while sighing helplessly. I had a hunch that I messed up something very big. No one would come to know that Rachel was not my fate mate after I mark her. Crystal was not a nosy person, and I knew that she wouldn’t tell anyone about what I did to her. If she had to… then she had done this already.

“Adam…. Come to my office, I suddenly got a mind link from my father that made me groaned in frustration. “On my way. dad,” I replied to him and stood up from the ground. “Okay,” he replied to me before cutting off the mind link. I sighed and then started my walk back to the pack house.

I looked at the people around me in the pack, busy with their businesses. There were a few newly mated couples who were having a good time together. It made me remember those sparks that I felt when I touched Crystal before rejecting her. I didn’t feel those spark again when I touched her again at her birthday party.

Those were the best feelings that I have ever felt. Even making out with Rachel didn’t give me so much pleasure and urge of making someone mine that I felt when I touched Crystal before rejection. I would feel sparks with Rachel once I will mark her but they would not be as strong as they were with Crystal.

I reached my father’s office in the pack house and knocked on the door. He asked me to come inside. I sighed when I saw Warrick sitting there also. They had been best friends since their childhood, Warrick’s son, William, was also my best friend, but I felt that we developed a gap between us.

I didn’t know what led to this development, but I had to amend this before taking over the alpha position. “Sit down, son,” dad instructed me in a firm tone but didn’t look at me as he was busy with something on his computer. I took the chair beside Warrick. He was also busy with his work.

“We got the message from the palace,” he started telling me, and I listened to him with my full concentration. “The prince is coming to our pack a day earlier, which means tomorrow. He will be here by tomorrow afternoon, he continued, and I raised my brows in surprise.

“Why does he want to come early?” Lasked him in confusion

“He wants to meet all the wolves who shifted in a few days,” he answered me and I knitted my brows in confusion this time. At the same time, I felt a pulse of energy in my b*dy. “Di… did someone leave the pack?” I asked them hurriedly, and dad looked at Warrick.

“O yeah… I forgot to tell you that Crystal has already left the pack. I informed Theo, and he will receive her on their border in the next three hours, Warrick told us and my heart skipped a beat. She had gone without saying anything.

She would be with Theo soon. “Adam,” I looked at my father, who was looking at me with concern.

“Yes, dad,” I asked him in a calm tone.

“Is everything okay?” he asked me and I smiled faintly.

“Everything is okay, Dad,” I assured him with that smile. He kept on looking at me with the same gaze but nodded in the end.

“Why does the prince want to meet new wolves? I don’t see any relevance here, I asked him, and he took a deep breath before leaning back in his chair.

“You are going to be the alpha of this pack in three days. You should know the things that we have kept hidden from everyone inside the pack. Only the royals know about these things as we have to inform them whenever these things happen,” he answered me in a calm tone, but my heart started beating furiously.

“This time, the prince wants to meet the wolf who shifted earlier than her age. Meeting all the new wolves is just a cover–up story as we can’t expose her identity without the permission of our king, even the prince Killian doesn’t know,” he continued and my eyes widened in surprise.

“She? Yo.. you mean to say that a she–wolf in our pack shifted earlier than her age, and I don’t know about that?” I was now pissed at the piece of information that I got just now.

“Relax, son… I told you that we can’t expose her identity without the permission of our king. You are now the future alpha, and that’s why, we are telling you this now,” he answered me in the same calm tone, but his relaxed tone infuriated me the

most

There is a myth that a wolf shifted earlier than his age only in special circumstances. Either his wolf has this strong. determination to save his human if he is attacked, or he has some special powers.

In our case, this was a she–wolf. It meant that she would have some sort of special powers, and I missed the opportunity to get that she–wolf as my mate. A wolf with special powers is a far better mate than an alpha’s daughter like Rachel. I would have done anything to make that she wolf agree to be my mate. No she–wolf can resist having Luna’s position, and it was good leverage for me.

“Who is this she–wolf, Dad?” I asked him with a sigh. He sighed aloud and looked at Warrick. The way they shared a look with each other, my heart started running a marathon inside my b*dy. It couldn’t be Crystal, could she?

She didn’t shift on her birthday. She mocked me when I taunted her for being wolfless, I sensed her wolf right after that. She was not wolfless but didn’t shift because she was tired. How could a wolf deny her first shift even if her human is

it

Only in one case, if this was not her first shift. I paled immediately when the realization hit me hard.

“It’s Crystal, Adam. Remember a big rogue attack when you were in high school?” Dad asked me, and I just nodded in a daze. I felt that someone had knocked out all the air from my lungs. She was the one. She was that special wolf. Neo started laughing at me in mockery at the back of my mind.

“She shifted for the first time to save five pups from her class. Her wolf killed all the rogues but was hurt badly. The king ordered me to put a command on her wolf so that she wouldn’t shift according to her free will before her eighteenth birthday. Only a few people including those four pups, know about Crystal’s shift, but all of them are under my command. That’s why, no one knows about her early shift,” he explained the whole situation, and I felt as if I lost my breathing ability. “Her wolf is special, Adam, and that’s why, we don’t want the prince to meet Crystal. He is also a special wolf, and he can assess the abilities of a wolf without waiting for his or her shift. Crystal’s life will be in danger if it gets out that she is a special woll. She is still unmated, and in this situation, all those power–hungry wolves will start coming for her. I don’t know much about Prince Killian, as he always kept himself low profile, but what if he wants to take Crystal as his chosen

mate after knowing about her powers?” he finished what he wanted to tell me in a worried tone.

I just stared at him, not knowing what to say right now. “You lost, Adam…. Your greed for power made you lose the best opportunity of your life, Neo mocked me while laughing hard at the back of my mind. I wanted to yell at him, but he was not wrong. What did I do?

Crystal’s mocking face when I taunted her for being wolf–less surfaced in my mind. Now I understood why she accepted the rejection without any hesitation because she knew her powers, and I easily confessed to her that I wanted power. She betrayed me by hiding her powers. I tightened my grip on the armrest and tried hard to stay calm. If… if she thought that she could go away from me, then she really underestimated me. Let hier.come back then I will make her pay for her betrayal.
