Chapter 1: 1: Pregnant

Elena’s POV

“Elena,” Darius mind-linked me. “Doctor Arnold just informed me that you are pregnant.”

I placed a hand in my stomach my heart leaping with joy. “I am pregnant?” I asked gracefully.

“Yes, you are and I demand to know how,” Darius yelled. “Come to my office right now.”

And here I was expecting a congratulations for being pregnant with his pup, the heir of the pack. I didn’t understand why he was shocked that I was carrying his pup. It was definitely the result of the steamy S** we had four nights ago.

Darius was the Alpha of the Ocean Shadow Pack. It was the largest Pack in the country.

“Elena honey!”

My heart skipped a beat as I heard grandma call out my name. I tilted my head. “Were you calling me, grandma Serena?”

Grandma Serena didn’t respond instead she just stood there staring at me. I was certain she was wondering why I was smiling like an idiot. Well, she confirmed my certainty, when she spoke up. “You should be here in the kitchen, helping me prepare lunch and not standing there smiling like a fool. Come here, Elena.”

I grabbed my hand bag. “I’m so sorry Grandma Serena, but I have to go.”

“But you have only arrived… ” I rushed to her, and took her hand and k*ssed it. “Your grandson wants me in his office right now.”

“Is everything alright?”

“Yes, yes Grandma Serena, everything is alright. I feel like I am the luckiest Luna in the world.”

Grandma smiled. “My True Luna.”

And here she goes again. Unlike Alpha Lucas and Luna Catherine, Darius’s parents who disliked me from day one for being the chosen mate of Alpha Darius, Grandma Serena had loved me and always told me I was just like her. Yes, Grandma Serena was Darius’s late Grandpa’s chosen mate, just as I am Darius’s chosen mate too and not fated mate. But they had loved each other and led the pack in happiness and peace. Grandma always claimed that I possessed every abilities a True Luna should possess and that reminds her of her youth.

I noticed Grandma’s smile change to a frown swiftly. “You shall miss lunch, I shall miss lunch too.”

I was silent for a while and then spoke in an undertone. “Stop it, Grandma. I’m so sorry to spoil the day for you but I have to go. Do you want Alpha Darius to be mad at me?”

“You know I do not want that, Elena. Go now before I start to cry.”

Well, Grandma meant that a hundred percent. Her son and grandson didn’t want to have anything to do with her, after grandpa died. I was the only one she had.

I said my goodbye to Grandma Serena and left.

I gazed at Alpha Darius, hopefully, brightly, yet I felt there was something wrong. He didn’t seem to be happy at all. In fact he looked downright miserable. “Has something bad happened?” I asked softly. “You’re upset.”

“I am upset,” he told me. “I had such plans. For us both. But…” He put his hands over his eyes.

“Alpha Darius?” I whispered. “Tell me. I’ll try to understand. It can’t be so very bad, can it?” My l*ps parted as I saw the look of distress and anger on his face. “Is it something that I’ve done?”

“Yes. Yes!” He swallowed hard. “What I am going to say, Elena, will affect our future.”

“But…?” I questioned, frightened by his pallor and his obvious wretchedness and the fact that I was pregnant with his pup. “What of our future?”

“There will be none,” he groaned. “Not together. We reject each other by tomorrow and in front of the pack members.”

Alpha Darius was so angry that he could spit nails in my worried face.

“Why would you reject me? You said you wanted me as your Luna. And I am carrying your pup,” I cried.

Alpha Darius looked up at me and groaned. “I haven’t asked you anything about the bastard in your stomach! It would be so unworthy of me to keep you as my Luna and my chosen mate, when you have cheated with another.”

“So it is a question of honor. Tell me,” I said, “for I don’t know about these things. Is it normal to accuse me of cheating on you, when you took away my virginity four nights ago? If it is a thing of honor, then please have some shame before you speak and accuse me with heavy words!”

“My father says I should reject you as soon as possible. My mum says you are humiliation and you shouldn’t last a day longer as the Luna of this pack. I have become a laughing stock. And I would lose face socially if I don’t go through with this rejection. A lot of people have been made aware and accept that we reject each other tomorrow in the pack’s meeting square.”

The pack members would definitely not be in support of this. Not to sound pompous, but majority of the pack members loved me and I have helped the pack in every way I could. I’ve stood by Alpha Darius for three good years, even before he chose me as his mate. I just couldn’t believe that Alpha Darius was denying having anything to do with me four nights ago.

I had been in my room, when suddenly a knock sounded on the door. I had opened the door to witness a drunk Alpha Darius standing in front of my room. He has confessed his love for me and k*ssed me. It led to one thing. One thing that breeded the pain he was causing me at this moment.

“Dry those years,” my wolf Amanda instructed. “He doesn’t deserve them and you know he doesn’t deserve them.”

“I know what you have always wanted,” Alpha Darius continued to say, bringing me out of my reverie.

What have I always wanted?

“Billions, my Penthouse, a car and all other expenses my wealth can cover. I will give you everything you want.”

This was a slap to my face. No, double slaps and I felt like giving him a dozen of it. Perhaps, he was still drunk.

“Why are you saying all this to me, Alpha Darius?”

“Don’t sound so shocked,” he responded dryly. “Even poor little Omegas can have a lucky change in fortune occasionally. Well, count this as your luck. You have been seduced by my wealth, isn’t that why you accepted to become my chosen mate and Luna?”

Another slap across the cheek. A dagger to my heart. I couldn’t stand this any longer. I felt dizzy and weak and tensed. I was sweating profusely. I felt like I was going to faint.

The thought of everything that has happened and was happening could make anyone in my shoe lose their minds. Or was it the pregnancy? Because I was really losing my mind.

I had woken up to the sounds of screams in the middle of the night. I was disoriented after waking up suddenly and it took me a moment to realize that a fight was going on outside the pack house.

Gathering myself, I had ran to the grounds where the fight was going on. I had stood frozen in my spot with terror as I had seen unkempt rogue wolves fighting the trained warriors of the pack. I had consoled myself by telling myself that my pack was one of the biggest packs that ever existed, with the most skilled warriors. Since rogues never banded together, I had been certain that there would only be a few of them.

But then I had seen that there were rogues coming from every direction. There must have been over fifty of them. That felt simply impossible but I had seen it with my own eyes. Where do I run to? I had wondered.

I had been attacked by the rogues. I had screamed for help, drawing the attention of Alpha Darius. He had rushed to where I was. He had rescued me from the hands of the rogues with some words I had never expected.

“Take your hands away from my Chosen Luna!”

The rogues had listened and went away. He helped me stand up. Then I had watched him begin to leave. I just couldn’t let him leave. I had rushed behind him, demanding to know his name. “Hey, I demand you tell me your name.”

After much persistence, Alpha Darius had turned to me and told me his name.

I had asked him why he saved me.

“Because you were in danger,” he had said. “It’s my duty to save people who are in danger.”

“My dad told me that if someone saves you when you are in danger, then that person is your Prince,” just like Cinderella’s Prince. I had walked closer to him and grabbed his hand and kept yelling, “You’re my Prince! You’re my Prince! You’re my Prince!”

“Elena! Elena!” the yelling of my name seemed to do me a favor, by bringing me out of my thoughts, which will forever remain memories. Today my Prince was rejecting me verbally. The audacity, the lack of remorse in his looks and words, were enough to shatter me but I refuse to be shattered. I had to be strong for the pup in my tummy, if not for me.

“You may leave,” Darius said without a care in the world. “We reject ourselves tomorrow, do not forget.”

Turning, I rushed to the door and left the office. I flee to the staircase and ran down them, trying to hold back the tears that are threatening to fall from my eyes.

“Don’t cry, Elena,” Amanda pleaded. But it was already too late. Tears rolled down my eyes like a stream.
