Conrad's

POV:

"A mirage? We've really encountered it?"

Otis had some surprise as she looked ahead at the green, she had never seemed to see such a sight before.

"The mirage is an illusion caused by refraction, the real location is somewhere else, if you can jump ten feet off the ground to avoid the hot air on the ground, the illusion will disappear."

The power of the wolf beads focused on my senses and all movement ahead was captured, in the direction that seemed to hold an oasis, I could only sense the hot desert.

"I sense that our destination is not far from us, maybe we will be able to arrive before noon."

With that said my face broke into something of a smile and I proceeded to run in a different direction to that green.

A day and a night of running had created a heavy exhaustion that weighed on my body, and although the power of the wolf beads was restoring my strength, there was no way to get rid of my mental exhaustion.

The next day noon had soon arrived and the air was once again hot, just as the sunlight in the sky became a little harsher and I saw real green.

"Otis, that's where we're really going."

This desert destination was farther away than I had imagined, and had taken a day and a night at the speed we were going; a normal werewolf might have taken three days or more.

Such a long time would have been able to cost the average werewolf his life in this hell of heat and cold, but it was good that we had now arrived.

"I never thought there would be such a sight inside such a barren desert, it's like a miracle."

"Beyond the great mountains to the north, across the other continent of human settlement, there are werewolves, but I didn't think there were any inside the desert."

I listened to Otis' voice and I too felt there was some joy as I saw the hope ahead, the hope of saving the wolves was in that green.

The surprise overpowered our exhaustion for a short time, and as we became closer to the oasis, we got a good look at this incredible sight.

The oasis was far larger than expected, and between the criss-crossing tropical vegetation there was a succession of buildings arranged in a hierarchy towards the centre, surrounding the huge pyramid of over three hundred feet at the very centre.

A number of figures moved around inside these buildings, giving the place a vibrant appearance. Suddenly a gust of wind came from ahead, but my face changed when I smelt it.

Apart from the smell of the desert, there was a strange smell within this wind, a smell that had something unpleasant about it, and most importantly, a smell that was one of those disgusting smells I had smelt in the Blue-moon Pack in the first place! "It's the smell of the plague!"

I looked in shock at the distant complex of buildings, at the moving figures, clearly there was a plague ahead, but the images coming from in front of me did not prove this in any way, the people inside this building were living normally as if they were not affected by the plague.

"They must have a way to lift the plague, or isolate it altogether, Conrad, our people are saved!"

I listened to Otis' surprised voice, and I too transformed into a human at this moment, we were here to ask for help, and only our human form could express our sincerity.

"For the sake of our wolves, we must agree to whatever terms the other side offers."

With that said I motioned for Otis to follow me, stepping over the hot gravel towards the gates of this part of the building.

The building ahead became clearer and clearer, but before I could get to the door and enter the gate, a pack of werewolves were in our way.

The werewolves wore broad robes that seemed to have the effect of blocking out the sun and allowing air in this heat, their faces hidden in the shadows of their robes so that I could only get a rough idea of their appearance. "This is Totem Pack territory, no approaching!"

Suddenly a menacing voice came from behind these werewolves and an even stronger werewolf stepped out, he didn't use his robes to hide his face and we got a good look at his amazing appearance in this moment. White! Despite living in the heat of the desert, his face was actually untanned and looked almost indistinguishable from our skin!

What was even more surprising was that his white cheeks were actually filled with some odd black lines that looked like an earthworm stuck to his face, and they moved as he spoke, as if the earthworm was crawling on his face. "We are here for help with the plague, not free help, you can make conditions, can you inform your Alpha?"

I didn't show any displeasure at his menacing voice and made a serious attempt to talk to him, but I didn't expect the guy to frown and then cut me off.

"We Alpha's are yours to see just because you want to? You don't want to live, if you continue to stand in front of our wolves, then don't blame us for doing it!"

He looked at me icily, then he waved his hand and the pack of wolves behind him transformed into wolves the very next moment!

These wolves all had some yellowish fur that looked similar to the colour of the desert, in addition to that these wolves all carried an aura of fierce history and their bodies were incredibly strong!

Their sharp teeth glinted in the sunlight and a dangerous aura came from their bodies, and in just a moment I could tell that these werewolves were probably stronger than the Blue-moon Pack warriors! "Damn, these guys are not communicating with us at all."

My face turned pale at this moment, my mind making many judgments in a flash.

The Blue-moon Pack's crisis was spreading, and I couldn't afford to delay here now.

I clenched my fists as the energy of the wolf beads flowed through my body.

"Otis, prepare to strike and charge in!"

"Understood!"

Just as I was about to transform into a wolf and start killing each other, a surprised voice came from the werewolf who was leading the charge.

"Everyone back, I feel the power of the totem!"

"Totem power?"

I looked around with some some confusion as, along with that werewolf's voice, all the werewolves took a few steps back and then reverted back to their human forms.

The aura of danger instantly disappeared from their bodies, but I couldn't figure out what was in front of me.

Totem power, what was that? Why had it suddenly stopped for us?

Just as I was wondering, my gaze caught the werewolf staring behind me, a glint inside his eyes, as if he had seen something remarkable?

Wasn't there only Otis behind me?

Feeling his gaze my face turned sour again, Otis did have outstanding looks, but she was my mate and I would not allow anyone to have any thoughts about her! "What do you mean by this?"

My tone took on a fierce tone, ready to tear this guy apart at any moment, but what I didn't expect was for the leader of the group to start smiling.

"Sorry, I didn't expect you to be honoured guests, follow me to the parlour first and rest, I'll have someone inform the Alpha."

With that said he turned his head and gestured for us to follow him.

"Conrad, the other side is a whole pack of wolves, and they seem to be unbelievably large, we should not make a move until the last moment."

Otis' gentle voice came from behind me and I stroked her cheek, the fierceness on my face disappearing.

"I know, but if they dare to make a move on you, no matter how powerful they are, I will kill them!"

With that said I tightened my grip on Otis' hand and walked towards the interior of Totem Pack.

The plague-tinged wind wove its way through the gaps in the building, the plants were so strange that I couldn't even identify the species, but I could feel the plague aura emanating from one of the plants here!

The smell of plague surrounded Totem Pack, but as I looked around me, I saw that all the inhabitants seemed unaffected.

Some of them wore robes, but some of them didn't, and the ones that didn't all had one thing going for them, their bare skin was almost always covered in weirdly coloured lines!

Some of these lines were on their feet, some on their shoulders and some even on their faces like the male headed werewolf, the reason they didn't wear robes seemed to be to show these lines, the patterns seemed to be the glory of their pack. As we walked past the buildings around us, these wolves cast surprised glances at us and began to whisper.

"What are they and why did the captain of the guard bring them in, aren't we Totem Pack off limits to ordinary wolves?"

"We are enveloped by the breath of the gods here, without the power of the Totem they will die from the power extracted by the gods, why didn't these two werewolves faint?"

"We're in the desert, normal people can't even replace this place, it's so strange, wait, look at that strange woman, why does she look so similar to the gods!" "OH... indeed, that woman is so beautiful!"

Their whispers were caught by my powerful perception, and I caught two key pieces of information within their talk.

One, that the wolves were enveloped by the breath of the gods and would die without the power of the totem.

Two, Otis's resemblance to the gods they spoke of.

The countless doubts made my head ache, so I decided to stop thinking and soon I would meet their Alpha, and all the doubts would be solved then.
