Amaya's Storm (Book One) -
Chapter Fifty-Five
About an hour later Mucamutara called for the feast the clan had been preparing to begin. The sounds of two happy clans coming together surrounded me quickly as the feast started. Once it started winding down, I said goodnight to everyone and began walking to the place I was staying in for the night. “Hey, Amaya, wait up,” Fox called, running up to me. I slowed down, allowing him to catch up, “Where are you off to?”
“Bed. Where are you off to?” I responded with a small smile.
“I guess bed, wherever that is.”
“You don’t have to. You can stay longer if you want. I don’t want to end your fun,” I said, giving him a kiss on the cheek, “Go. Join me once you’re ready to go to bed.”
He sighed, “Okay. If you’re sure.”
I nodded, “I am. Go,” I said all but shoving him.
Once back to the house Fox and I were staying in for the night I quickly packed before heading to bed.
-Fox’s POV-
A couple hours after Amaya left the party, I heard a blood curdling scream coming from the direction Amaya went when she left. I looked over at Daniel, who nodded, before I took off running until I found the house. I found Amaya easily inside in the midst of a night terror, so I climbed in bed with her and pulled her to me tightly. As soon as my arms were around her, she stopped screaming and she startled awake.
“Wh-wha,” she cleared her throat which was raw from screaming, “What are you doing in here?”
I put my hands on her face and looked her over, as something inside me wanted to double check she was actually okay. “You were screaming, so I came to replace you. Do you want to talk about it?”
She shook her head, “It’s just the nightmares I was telling you about. I didn’t bring my herbal supplement, so it was the worst one I’ve had in awhile.”
“Is there anything I can do?” I asked her, feeling helpless.
“Just keep holding me, and maybe just talk to me,” she said, settling into my arms, as her body started vibrating.
“What do you want me to say?” I asked, not knowing what to tell her.
She shrugged, “I don’t know anything really about your family, so maybe tell me about them.”
I blew out a breath, “I don’t know where to start. My parents have been married forever, and they’re super handsy which is the worst thing about being around them for any amount of time. They are disgustingly in love with one another. My dad retired from the Marines just a few years ago and my mom is a high school teacher. I have two siblings, an older sister and a younger brother. Viola is an FBI agent and was married to a Marine, but he recently passed away, leaving Viola to raise their son, Jack, alone. Jack is such a great kid. He’s dealing with Trent’s death better than anyone could’ve predicted. He’s such a funny kid too, even after everything. Vi is so good with him too, and my parents help. My little brother, Sutton, is in the Army’s Special Forces.”
She yawned before interrupting me, “Why did both of you go into the most elite branches in the Military?”
“I don’t know. Dad was in the Marines, so maybe we wanted to follow in his footsteps without going into the same branch because he has so much influence.” I yawned, “Sutton likes to hold me being a SEAL over me, but Dad always reminds him at least I didn’t turn my back on the Navy, unlike him. Dad used to bring up Trent, saying even Viola married in the Navy. Dad likes to joke about Sutton being a traitor, but Sutton takes it all on the chin.”
She laughed quietly, “I can’t wait to meet them,” she said sleepily.
“They’ll love you,” I responded in a tired voice.
“Thank you for coming to me when you heard me screaming,” she said through another yawn.
“Always,” I said through a yawn. Her breathing slowed and the purring stopped, but I continued talking to her. Rambling on about nothing, until I also fell asleep.
-Amaya POV-
When Niamh woke me up, I noticed immediately two heavy arms wrapped around me and that I was laying on top of a very warm body. When I stirred, the arms squeezed me tighter. I took in a breath, and was greeted with the overwhelming scent of my mate. He stayed all night, the thought put a smile on my face. Fox grunted quietly as Niamh started to purr, and I tried to escape again. “Fox, we have to get up,” I said, trying a little harder to get out of his arms. He grumbled again, causing me to giggle. “Fox wake up,” I said, still trying to get out of his arms.
He grumbled again, and pulled me even tighter to him, “Just a few more minutes.”
I giggled again, “You can have a few more minutes, but I need to get up,” I said, causing him to grumble some more. I changed my tactic and started kissing my way up his neck to his jaw and eventually I sucked his bottom lip between my teeth and bit down gently, causing him to moan.
He kissed me back, moving his arms from around me to grab my face. He pulled back just slightly, “That’s a good way to wake up in the morning,” he recaptured my lips and kissed me deeply.
I finally broke the kiss and was able to slip away from him with a smile on my face. I stretched as I got up and headed for the restroom. I looked over my shoulder at him, “We have to leave in thirty or so minutes.”
He nodded before getting up to stretch as well. No doubt stiff from the position he slept in last night, with his back against the headboard and me in his lap. I heard him moving around the small bedroom, packing. When I walked out of the restroom he was sitting on the edge of the bed. I stepped in between his legs and he put his hands on my waist, “How did you sleep?”
“Better than I have in a couple of years. Thank you for coming to me and staying with me,” he pulled me to him so that his head was settled on my stomach and his arms were wrapped around my thighs.
My hands slipped into his hair, “I’m glad I did. Maybe,” he squeezed me with his arms, burrowing his head into my stomach further, “Maybe when we get home we can keep this up.”
“We’ll see,” I said, pulling back and looking down at him. Niamh growled in my head at my response, “I’m worried I’ll get too used to sleeping with you and in the end you will leave.”
He looked down, “I understand,” he said quietly.
I lifted his head so that he was looking me in the eyes, “I would like to, I would, but I’m just worried,” he sighed, “We’ll see how it goes, okay?”
He nodded, “Okay.”
I kissed him quickly, “Thank you for understanding.”
“Thank you for being honest with me,” he said, standing and embracing me. He gave me a kiss on the top of my head before pulling back.
I nodded, walking over to my bag and lifting it onto my shoulder, “Come on we don’t want to be late.”
He smiled at me, “We still have fifteen minutes.”
“I have to do checks on the plane,” I lied.
“Mmhm. All right. Let’s go,” he said, obviously not fully believing me.
