Chapter 23-A kiss from Monford.

The man was sitting at the end of my bed, completely engrossed in a picture frame he held. He seemed so absorbed in the photo that he didn't even notice I was awake. Curious, I edged closer to him to see what had captured his attention so intensely.

Leaning in, I made a surprised noise as I glimpsed the picture.

The photo depicted me in an incredibly provocative bikini, posing seductively for the camera.

"Monford, you're such a pervert!"

Monford jolted, the picture frame nearly slipping from his grasp.

He straightened up, glanced at me briefly, then quickly turned away.

"Chloe, why aren't you dressed for sleep?"

Who sleeps without clothes? My pajamas, which Docker assisted me in putting on......

Something felt off. I looked down and realized I was wearing only underwear.

In my panic, I covered myself with the blanket. Monford had pulled out a dress from my closet and left it on the bed.

His scolding didn't faze me, if anything, it only made me laugh louder.

Amidst this commotion, I forgot to hold Docker accountable.

Didn't he come in last night to help me change into my pajamas? It was just one night. Where are my pajamas?

I know Monford is busy. To avoid delaying his work, I quickly showered, changed, and put on makeup. What used to take three hours, I accomplished in just half an hour today.

For that half-hour, I questioned myself every second.

Why can't I be an octopus? Then I could multitask.

Grabbing my bag and heels, I rushed out of the room, too preoccupied to notice anyone at the door.

And then, I accidentally collided with someone at the entrance, causing us both to tumble to the ground.

The person must have felt the brunt of my weight, upon falling, he let out a pained grunt.

"I'm sorry, are you alright?"

Pushing myself up, I widened my eyes as I saw who was underneath me.

"Monford, what are you doing here?"

Monford held his hand to his forehead, wincing slightly. Upon hearing my voice, he slowly opened his eyes and looked at me with his deep, captivating blue eyes. "Chloe, have you gained weight recently?"

He inquired, deliberately pinching my waist twice.

Feeling guilty, I swatted his hand away. I had indeed gained weight because Grandpa instructed the kitchen to prepare highly nutritious meals for me every day, and Mary was tasked with ensuring I finished them. "Shut up!"

I glared at him, distancing myself.

Monford remained seated on the ground, supporting himself with his hands. He chuckled heartily at my annoyance.

His smile was so charming that I couldn't stay mad at him.

Apart from Grandpa, Monford is the nicest man to me.

But, Monford is my brother. He may be good to me now, but what about in the future? Once he gets married and has his own family, will he still treat me the same way? Contemplating this, I began to feel melancholic. I tugged at Monford's sleeve and asked, "Will you love me forever?"

Monford paused, then reached out to touch my face.

"Of course, you're my favorite person."

"Will this love never change? Even if you were married and had children of your own, would I still be your favorite?"

I felt foolish asking such a question.

As I was about to change the subject, Monford suddenly placed his hand on the back of my head and pulled me into his arms.

One arm wrapped around my waist, while the other, previously on the back of my head, slowly moved to my chin.

Monford lifted my face to meet his gaze.

"Chloe, why would you ask that?"

His intense gaze held mine captive.

With this uncertainty lingering, I followed Monford to the company by car.

The guard at the gate ushered Monford in, while Docker opened the door for me.

"Miss Chloe?" Docker reached out, patting me on the shoulder.

"What's going on?" I asked absentmindedly.

"Chloe, it's time to get out."Monford came over, extending his hand to me.

I nodded, accepting his hand.

As I stepped out of the car, the high heels beneath my feet caused me to lose my balance and I stumbled forward. Docker reached out to steady me, but another pair of hands caught me before he could.
