Arielle's

POV

My eyes widened in surprise as Loki took down the first wolf without getting a scratch on his body. Micah was one of the strongest wolves in the pack and very few could match up to his sheer size and strength but Loki had ripped his head off barely five minutes

into their fight.

I had never seen any of the Van Tyson's in battle mode before so this came as a shock to experience Loki's strength for the first time on full display.

"Have you gotten any more wolves yet?" Loki yelled, directing the statement at him. I could detect a hint of arrogance in his voice.

I turned to my left and nodded towards the next wolf lying in wait, eager to go out there and avenge the death of Micah.

He wasted no time in rushing out and charging at Loki who was already prepared for his flurry of attack.

The fight lasted longer than his first, it was a lot fiercer this time, both men choosing wit over their obvious strength, waiting for the other to leave an opening to be explored but as it had been with Micah, Loki eventually took his second opponent down by ripping his body open through the middle.

I wasn't fazed. He will tire soon and when that happens, he'll be easy to deal with. The plan was to wear him down considerably before sending one of the best pack soldiers out to end him once and for all.

I watched on as the fight dragged well into the night, Loki was getting considerable damage done to his body but he was still raging on his opponents suffering worse fates as they eventually ended up dead after a hard-fought battle.

My calmness was starting to slip away, I was fidgeting underneath my calm demeanor. Loki had taken down eight wolves in nearly three hours and he was still standing proud, I could hear the cheers from his brothers on the other side. If Loki continued this way, he would be amongst one of three wolves who managed to get past the first hurdle.

The next fight had been a lot more difficult and it was just how I predicted it. Loki was on the defense right now, fighting for survival as the wolf from my lack unleashed a flurry of attack.

The sound of Loki whimpering in pain sounded like music to my ears, I was starting to relax a lot more now. With one last s***h of his paw, Drake sent Loki flying into the ground. His body was covered with marks, blood seeping from his furs. Drake turned towards where I sat next to Ethan, who was pleased with what he was seeing on display but that was a wrong move.

You should never turn your back on someone as unpredicted as Loki himself. There would be consequences for your actions.

Just as I opened my mouth to warn him, Loki took full advantage of the window of opportunity he had been given as he slammed his paw through Drake's body, pulling out his heart and his hand as Drake crumbled to the ground. "You called it The Book of Impossible Tasks, right?" Ethan began. His eyes weren't on me, they were fixed on Loki who was struggling to stand.

"Yes, I did," I replied, my head was already aching from the amounts of messages I would be receiving.

"It doesn't look like he's replaceing it difficult to kill some of my best soldiers, Arielle."

"He has one fight to finish before anything can be said and I-"

"No," Ethan cut in, shaking his head toward me. "We're done. You're done."

I frowned. What the hell is he talking about? "Ethan, you're speaking in parables."

I was starting to get worried that the more time we wasted, the more Loki would be able to heal and regain his strength and I couldn't let that happen.

"I've had enough and I'm not going to lose any more men to this charade," Ethan answered, his eyes replaceing mine. He was pissed and I couldn't help but wonder if his anger was directed at me or someone else.

"We're not done yet and you know this," I argued, feeling shocked that he would want to call it off now that they finally had Loki at their mercy. It wasn't making any sense to me.

"What are the chances that whoever comes up against him would succeed?" He asked me. "We've put up nine wolves, nine! And he's taken them down without even losing a limb or sustaining a major injury to his body."

"So what do you want me to do in this situation, you don't like my methods?"

"I just don't see the point in losing another wolf in a task I know he would clear without any difficulty. He's on the last wolf now and desperation can be the highest form of motivation you would ever get."

"You want me to call it off and proclaim this task as completed?" I ask, visibly frustrated by what he wanted me to do.

"Yes, Arielle. This isn't the only task you have set out for them, is it?"

"No," I answered. "There would be more to come."

Ethan nodded. "He who treads cautiously would live to fight another day. Give him this victory and let's count our losses and move on to the next."

I agreed with his decision, there would be more to come. There was no way they were going to survive everything I had planned out for them.

I stood up and walked toward the edge of the platform.

"Who's this last wolf I have to fight and why is he taking his time? Is he some kind of champion around here?" Loki taunted as he pranced around, talking to me through the mind link. We had both created a child, we would always be bound to each other. I clenched my fists in my hands. If only Ethan hadn't been against finishing this task, there was no way Loki was going to beat the general in this state.

"There would be no last fight for you." I cleared my throat, forcing myself to be audible enough.

Loki shifted back into his human form and I averted my gaze immediately but not before I caught a glimpse of his naked body, my cheeks flaming up immediately. I hoped Damian didn't see how turned on she was by him after over a year apart. "Why?" Loki asked as he wrapped a robe around himself much to my relief. Talking to a naked man was something she found difficult to accomplish given that there were a lot of memories between them.

"Ethan and I have agreed to name you the victor of this task," I explained. "We didn't expect you to go past the fifth but you took down nine wolves. As much as I hate to admit it, it was rather impressive."

"I can't possibly tell if you're being sarcastic or not right now," Loki answered me, laughing softly. "Does this mean you will come home with us right now?"

"In your wildest dreams," I smiled warmly at him. "You've completed just one of everything."

"I feel pretty confident about our chances." Loki gloated. "You didn't give us any benefit of the doubt despite how long we've known each other but you will soon."

"Your next task begins at noon." I cut in, wanting to part in his show of braggadocio. This was Loki for you, an egoistic bastard who could be a pain in the a*s on certain days and this was one of those days. "Do we get one of your envelopes now or it'll come later?"

"See you tomorrow at noon. Do not be late." I replied before turning away.

"You didn't answer me, sweetheart." Loki began.

It was pretty obvious he was taunting Ethan. My eyes made their way to where Ethan sat with a scowl on his face.

He opened his mouth to speak but I motioned for him to remain silent.

It was pointless to engage Loki right now, he has won this round and he had every right to gloat for as long as he could.

"You know, Ethan," Loki began and I quickened my steps towards Ethan, I had to drag him away from here before all hell would be let loose.

"I thought you would be the last person I would fight, I was looking forward to going down with you but I figured you called it off because you're a scared little pup and that's understandable. You wouldn't want to be beaten and killed in front of Arielle and your pack as a whole."

"You'll get your wish someday," Ethan replied, much to my disappointment. Couldn't he tell when he was being goaded? I tried to pull him away but he wouldn't budge. "I promise you."

"How about now?" Loki continued and I knew I had to do something before all hell broke loose.

"Get them out of here." I motioned to the guards. "And if they refuse, unleash the whole pack on them." I finished as I eventually succeeded in pulling Ethan towards the mansion.
