Xavier's POV

"You don't want me to tell everyone you have a son?" I laughed bitterly. "That's right. I have a child for the Van Tyson's outside of marriage which technically makes the child a bastard according to tradition." This was the final nail in the coffin. Everyone in the room fell silent as all eyes were fixed on Arielle as soon as she uttered those words.

I couldn't believe it, I was watching everything I've ever toiled for crumbling before my eyes and there was nothing, absolutely nothing I could do about it. I had been beside myself with joy as soon as I learned my sons had succeeded in reclaiming Arielle and their son. It meant the throne would remain in our bloodline and that was the proudest moment of my life yet. Eager to get things done officially and as soon as possible, I opened my treasury to my sons, trusting them to do the right thing hastily but in a grand way befitting that of kings and Alphas.

Everything was going according to plan. I had no love lost for Arielle, but if she was the one that would secure the throne, I had to play my part in making her feel welcomed and loved during her second stay here. She was the mother of my grandson after all but while we were making plans, we forgot to factor in Arielle wouldn't lay down quickly at any cost.

It had been a grave mistake on their part and now, they were going to pay the price for their negligence.

I could hear everyone murmuring now and every second, the unrest grew larger amongst them. If I didn't step in, no matter how disgraced Arielle has made me feel, it was going to lead to a more catastrophic situation.

"Silence!" I roared and instantly, there was silence. I racked my head trying to come up with possible ways to evade the conundrum my family was involved in right now but there wasn't any forthcoming.

"I thank you all for taking time out of your busy schedule to honor my invitation, it is a gesture I won't forget in a hurry." I began, addressing the room and by extension, everyone watching and listening outside of the pack house.

"But at the moment, you all will have to excuse the members of my family as well as the Council too. You heard all she said," I pointed at Arielle. "And we have to sort this out internally."

"We deserve to know the outcome of this potential meeting of you. If anything she says is proven to be correct, some punishments should be meted out."

I looked towards the voice, it was Greg. We've been at loggerheads since we were both in high school and it had continued ever since they took over from their father as Alphas.

"Thank you for your contribution, Alpha Greg." I began. "I and the Council know what measures we ought to take given the gravity of the accusation."

"But, I-"

"That would be all from you, Alpha Greg." I cut him off curtly. There wasn't any time to waste, the earlier we concluded, the better it would be. "Our decision would be communicated to everyone."
Xavier's POV

"You don't want me to tell everyone you have a son?" I laughed bitterly. "That's right. I have a child for the Van Tyson's outside of marriage which technically makes the child a bastard according to tradition."

I finished with a note of finality and everyone seated in the room took the cue to leave.

Within a couple of minutes, the grand ballroom was empty save for the Council members who were heading towards the senate room, leaving me to address my son and Arielle.

"What the hell did you think you just did?" I barked at her, making her move a couple of steps backward. "My sons went through thick and thin for you to win you back. You had to resort to making use of the magical book to make sure they failed but it never happened. So what was the horror show you just put up?"

"There was no way I would've ever let everything they've ever done to me slide without taking my revenge on them," Arielle said with a dry smile. "Do you I could've died the first time you all joined hands to send me away for something I haven't even figured out a year later? I spent days wandering in the forest, surviving by the skin of my teeth until I finally decided to end it all then by some stroke of luck, Ethan found me and brought me home. His pack cared for me, they nurtured me without complaints, and in return, I fell in love with them. I had never seen such kindness anywhere else before not even in his birth pack and just when I was finally building my life and trying to get rid of the horrors you all put me through, guess who came back to finish what they started?" "Your banishment had to be done," I replied curtly. "We heard damning news about you and there was no way I would let my sons soil our name because of a scandalous girl like yourself."

"So why did you come back for me?" Arielle yelled, her eyes brimming with unshed tears as she refused to break eye contact with me.

"They needed you. There was no other way for my sons to lay claim to the throne or be crowned Alpha if they didn't have a mate and given the difficulties in replaceing one, they had to return to you."

"Why?"

"Why?" I laughed your loud despite the tense situation. "You couldn't be a wasteful investment. You had come useful somehow and that was the only reason they came back for you, you had to give back after taking so much."

"I didn't take anything from you."

"The fame and prestige you have doesn't come without a cost. Everyone pays for what their heart wants and you will be no exception." I insisted.

"You should never have let them come for me, Alpha Xavier."

I heard her voice break, her pity show of crying wasn't enough to fix what she had broken.

"I was happy with Ethan, so happy and everything could've remained that way."

"A Van Tyson always comes back for one of its own. You gave birth to one of ours and by this, you're ours as well." I finished.

"You made the biggest mistake yet by bringing me back here, I will like to see how you repair this mess I've made. I don't care anymore, you've done the worse thing you could've ever done to me twice and if you decide to kill me today, I'll die a happy woman knowing I ruined your prestigious family name."

As soon as I opened my mouth to speak, I was interrupted by my Beta, Klaus.

"I'm sorry to interrupt your discussion, Alpha Xavier, but the Council is getting worked up and I don't think I can control them any longer. If there was ever a time to speak to them, it would be now."

I turned towards him and nodded before fixing my gaze on my sons who had remained silent throughout the entire discussion with Arielle.

"You three would be coming with me. This involves your future and you need to be there to see how it unfolds."

"Yes, Father." They chorused in unison before walking towards the senate room, leaving Arielle and me in the grand room.

"I'm not done with you yet," I replied. "When this is all over, the boys would decide on what they want to do with you and I want you to know whatever happens was your fault."

***

With all due respect, Alpha Xavier, we would like to know nothing other than the truth." I sat at the head of the table massaging my temple as I listened to one of my generals go off. "What truth might that be?"

"Is the claim of that young girl true?" The general asked. "Is there a child between your sons and herself? The time for being discreet is over, all of these could've been solved before the wedding but it's of no use crying over spilt milk."

I knew what was coming and I was faced with the hardest decision of my life yet. A difficult choice to pick between my sons and the continuation of my pack amongst the elites if I can manage the situation properly. But what would a reign without a good reputation look like? I've been witness to many great packs that faded into the wind after refusing to make hard decisions to ensure the continuation of their pack.

I sat upright, my mind clear with my decision. It was a difficult one to make but it was what was best for everyone involved.

"Yes," I answered. "They have a son together, she wasn't lying."

The general nodded, staring wistfully at my sons. "You know what this means, don't you, Alpha Xavier?"

"Yes, I do." I nodded.

"What the hell is going on?" It was my son, Loki, who spoke up this time around.

"Silence." I glared at him.

The general sighed and continued. "Their actions have gone against tradition and their fates have been sealed because of the gravity of their actions and now, it's left for you to pass judgment as the custodian of tradition and the Alpha of the Van Tyson pack." I nodded and pushed myself off the chair, turning to face my sons who still wore confused looks on their faces.

"By the power bestowed in me and given that you broke tradition by impregnating a woman before you three were crowned as my successor, I strip you three of every claim to being my successor and I name my Beta, Klaus to be my heir."
