Back in Time: Unshackling From Love ( Mikayla Davidson) -
Chapter 155
Chapter 155
Watching Mikayla’s lips curling upwards, Jerome didn’t feel annoyed.
Apart from her mocking smiles and the triumphant laughter from the last time she teased him, it’d been a long time since he’d seen her smiling so brightly.
Although she was just putting on an act, Jerome still had an indescribably strange feeling.
As if something usual had now become rarely seen
He felt a little uncomfortable by this.
“Don’t worry. Even though you didn’t take the card, it still belongs to you.” Mikayla said after seeing Jerome remained silent
“Stop being childish. Jerome scoffed. “As I said, its none of my business what you decide
to do with what I gave you. I’m here to tell you that Ive something to attend to, and I’m leaving. Mike already took care of what happened last night, and it won’t happen again.”
With that, Jerome walked away.
Mikayla stood still for a moment
Jerome seemed a little strange today.
Not only did he speak up for her twice, but he didn’t get angry at all at her provocations?
Mikayla decided to stop her thoughts.
After all, she’d never been able to guess them anyway.
When Jerome said that the matter from last night was taken care of, Mikayla breathed a
sigh of relief.
Just as she was about to leave, she received a call from Betty.
She told Betty the good news.
“No wonder!” Betty said, “Johnny’s liquor distillery officially opened today, and they even held a ribbon–cutting ceremony. A lot of people were invited.
“But as soon as the ceremony started, he was taken away by the police. The news was spread all around and everyone was mocking him for his bad luck during his business” grand opening. They said it’ll be unlikely to succeed in the future.
“Mikayla, Mr. Miller’s really efficient. He was able to resolve last night’s incident in a day. It really shows how much he values you!”
Betty somewhat pitied Mikayla for what happened at the last party when she got drunk.
Although it was intentional, her loneliness on the dance floor was genuine.
Betty had heard about Mikayla and Jerome’s past.
She wasn’t the kind of person who’d advise someone to get a divorce just because she’d gone through one herself,
After all, a marriage felt and meant differently to everyone.
She wasn’t advocating for either reconciliation or divorce, but simply trying to objectively express her opinion.
Hearing what Betty said, Mikayla thought about last night when Jerome carried her.
She smiled and said, “Perhaps. Of course, he has more important matters and people to
attend to.”
The incident at the last party was the best proof.
She then received a message from Matilda, so Mikayla ended the call with Betty.
She walked to the dining table, where Matilda no longer bore the friendly smile from
before, but rather a look of displeasure.
Matilda said, “You’ve been gone for so long. Are you that busy?”
Mikaya didn’t feel like arguing with Matilda.
Since Jerome had left, she said, “Uncle Stephen, Aunt Matilda, from now on, don’t ask Jerome for any help with your business anymore. Grandpa had mentioned that the Miller
wav
family’s financial status is way beyond our’s. You always ask him for help. Have you ever considered my situation?”
“Of course we have!” Matilda, said annoyedly. “To Jerome, our issues are just trivial matters. Do you need to make such a big deal out of it?”
“If Jerome really refuses, what can we do?” Matilda continued, “If you really want to secure your status, then have a child sooner. Only then can you truly gain a firm foothold.”
Stephen chimed in, “Your aunt is right. You’ve been married for over a year now, why haven’t you shown any signs of pregnancy? Have you had a medical check–up yet?”
Chapter 155
Louisa added fuel to the fire, “Could it be that Jerome replaces you repulsive and doesn’t even want to touch you?”
Faced with the trio’s lecturing and mockery, Mikayla covered her ears, “Why should I establish myself in the Miller family?”
Matilda looked at her suspiciously.
“Just now, Louisa said you are still going to divorce Jerome?”
Mikayla smiled.
“Aunt Matilda, you always thought that Jerome should marry Louisa. If I didn’t get a divorce, where would she get the chance? If you support my divorce, and Louisa put in some effort, then Jerome will become your son–on–law. It will be more convenient for him to help with anything.”
“What nonsense are you talking about?”
