Back in Time: Unshackling From Love ( Mikayla Davidson) -
Chapter 196
Chapter 196
Jerome thought he had come up with a perfect solution, but Mikayla wasn’t. impressed.
She sneered. “Our problem is more than just an anniversary. You’re not used to caring about such things. You don’t have to make up for your pointless guilt.”
He asked through gritted teeth, “Do you really think I just want to make up for my guilt?”
“Yes.”
Jerome’s expression darkened. “You said you have no feelings for me. Then why did you risk your life to protect me in that dangerous situation? I want to talk properly with you, but you keep rejecting me. Don’t you feel your actions are contradictory?”
“What happened tonight was an accident. If it were anyone I know, like Celeste or even Mr. Ashford, I would protect them too. It’s my character. It has nothing to do with whether I love you.”
Mikayla appeared calm and expressionless. Jerome felt uncomfortable again.
“Mikayla, do you believe what you said?”
She had been clinging to him for five years. Everyone knew that she loved him. There was no way she could stop loving him all of a sudden.
Her patience was running out. “I’m telling the truth. I don’t care whether you believe it. In short, we’ll get divorced after Grandma’s birthday. I won’t delay it even a day!”
Someone knocked on the door when they were in a stalemate. Connor’s voice came from outside. “Jay, can I come in?”
“Go ahead,” Jerome responded coldly.
The ward door opened, and Connor walked in. He had a bandage on his forehead. Apart from his slightly pale lips, his mental state seemed better than Jerome’s.
Connor sensed something was wrong between them, so he asked with a smile, ” Mikayla, you’re awake! Are you okay?”

At first, Mikayla wanted to ignore him. But she still responded since he had confronted that fat man earlier. “I’m fine.”
“That’s good. Well, you might not believe it. Jay looked so nervous after you got hit. He didn’t even care about the injury on his waist. He just scooped you up and ran
outside!”
She looked at Connor suspiciously. “Didn’t you faint after you saw your blood?”
He corrected her seriously, “I didn’t! I just hurt my forehead and felt a little dizzy. Ms. Reign gave me first aid, and I was fine right away!”
Although he later fainted again because someone else’s blood spattered on him, he
didn’t need to mention it.
“That’s why I saw that Jay’s waist hit the table!”
Mikayla glanced at Jerome’s waist upon hearing that. She got a vague impression he had bumped into something, but he ran out of the bar without stopping.
No wonder he kept frowning and looked unwell. It was because of his waist pain.
“I’m fine now. Please take him to the doctor,” she said to Connor.
Connor glanced at Jerome and found his gloomy expression. He could tell something went wrong between them.
As Jerome’s best friend, he felt he should help Jerome solve the problems, so he suggested, “Jay, I’ll accompany you to see the doctor.”
Jerome sat still, so Connor took the initiative to help him up.“Let’s go. Mikayla needs to rest. We can check on her later. Mikayla, I’ll take Jay for his checkup!”
After waving to Mikayla, he dragged Jerome out of the ward.
Jerome broke free from Connor in disgust as soon as they walked out.
“Take it easy, Jay. Your waist injury might be serious. If something goes wrong, you’ll suffer!”
Jerome glanced at him coldly but said nothing.
“Jay, did you argue with Mikayla again? Why?”

Connor asked curiously, “Mikayla risked her life to save you, and you accompanied her for most of the night. Logically speaking, this should be a good time for you both to talk things out. Why do you look so upset?”
