BATTLES: The Royal Invasion -
Chapter 5
“Dad…what is this lights in the sky”
“It’s called stars, buddy”
“Ok, what they are do?”
“It’s just like our sun but further”
“But it’s too small…are there more stars?”
“Yes what you seeing is really a small part of the universe”
“What is the universe?”
“It’s the place where we exist along with everything else”
“So you don’t know what the universe is?”
“I’ve just told you”
“But I didn’t understand”
“Alright…you tell me when you grow up my little buddy, let’s go to store and go back home before mommy got worry”
“But I want to stay here”
“Don’t worry Alex, we will come back to the hill again”
Two burglars appears out of nowhere.
“Give us your money you motherfucker” said one of them holding a knife.
“And if I don’t?”
“We will beat your ass and we will take this boy…we can sell him for heavy bucks”
“Over my dead body”
When John left and his son with him the burglars faces were destroyed by a former kickboxer hotshot. Bad luck for them John was never lost his way to the gym.
“He’s waking up”
The first thing John saw was the face of the nurse when he woke up after passing out for 8 hours.
“Are they good?” Kate barely heard him before answering in gloomy voice: they were heroes… only seven men was survived out of the twenty men.
“You are lucky boys…some of you lost his leg and some of you lost an eye but you are lucky to stay alive” said the Major Ronald.
Ronald was not that guy of leaders who gives such motivational speeches but he was doing his best.
John was looking at him with empty eyes, Kate noticed that: he is just trying to cheer you up, but I think he is not good enough at it.
“I think it’s not the right time to do this…many of us has died” said John.
“But I think you are the luckiest…you didn’t lose an eye or arm, just some injuries in the arm and the gut that needed cleansing and suture…the boys who came for support are talking about strange creatures,
What was they?”
“I don’t know, but I really think that you heard enough about them from the boys”
She smiled and said: you’re probably right.
John noticed that the Major was walking toward him with a smile on his face.
“How do feel now?” said Ronald.
“A little bit dizzy…but I think I will get better with time”
“Sure, you will need some food…this blood bags are necessary but they don’t enough”
“You’re right”
“After tomorrow we will go on a search for civilians, you would like to come with us?”
“I think by after tomorrow I’ll be better”
The Major wasn’t surprised of that immediate response. The Major turned his back on them and walked away.
It was her chance now to talk to him as she likes.
“You said something while you sleeping…something about ‘morons’ and ‘I will kill you both’… what was that?”
Kate’s way of talk and her features remind him a lot by his wife.
“I was taking my wife and my son every week to the forests outside New York, but one of the times my wife was sick but my son loved the trip” John stopped talking for moments before continuing: we went-me and my son-but on our way back two burglars appeared.
“Did they hurt you?”
“No, they were just couple of punks”
“Where are you wife and son now?”
“They dead”
Kate putted her hand on her mouth without thinking “I’m sorry”.
“It’s ok”
“Oh I almost forgot I will bring you some food”
At that day, nobody was telling stories about fights with the invaders or laughs or anything. There was just the sounds of burning woods in the barrels and the moans of the injured people. John was thinking: there is no point telling stories if you could die in any moment.
John looked around him looking for Blake on these stretchers and finally he spotted him, lost an eye and broke his leg, he tried to call him but it was useless he is still passed out. Kate was back with some canned tuna. “This man over there…is he alright?” said John.
“Currently yes…he suffered a concussion and lost a lot of blood…you know him?”
“We had a conversation on our way to the battle…he is biologist of some kind, that’s all I know about him”
Someone called Kate for help so she left John alone with his thoughts. John wanted so badly to meet the leader of the aliens not for any reason but to kill him, if this didn’t happened he would never lost his family…no one would.
John heard a voice but he couldn’t to detect its source before looking at Blake who was calling desperately for help.
Luckily John heard him and called the nurse to look after the poor Blake.
John was staring deeply at Blake wondering why such a guy join the resistance, he has nothing to do with weapons or battles…he is a scientist.
Blake’s physique was like that of a teenager with a thin body and thin hands that never touched a weapon before the last week when he decided to join the resistance. Dr. Blake was the top of his class in college with amazing researches about genetic evolution in living beings and how to activate them.
But his dream was way bigger than just activate them, he dreamed of making a superhuman who can take the mankind another step further in its evolution journey.
His researches was already fruitful when he succeeded to create a drug that increases the thickness of the skin multiple times, that was just nearly a year before the invasion. A discovery that led him to be the youngest Nobel Prize winner in the history. But that wasn’t enough for him and he continued his work on the superhuman project but with no results.
After two days…
The men began the surveillance mission at the afternoon. John’s injuries wasn’t fully healed but because there was lack of numbers Ronald had to offer this mission to John.
The destruction was everywhere. The New York City that once was full of skyscrapers has now became grounded. John was always thinking how many corpses are buried under this scrap? Is it that fun to kill defenseless people? Rage was curdling inside John’s heart and that was the fuel that John was rely on all this time.
“I wasn’t saved for nothing” John remembered the day the resistance saved him from the clutches of death when he was about to get eaten alive after being buried under the rubble for day and half, but they interfered before he become a meal for them unlike his family who was eaten but luckily they didn’t feel anything, because they were dead.
The team was taking a break on a rubble hill. The team could not replace any survivors after 4 hours of searching.
“Guys…look” cried one of the men pointing at huge group of people.
