Lauren's mind was in a state of chaos. Before she could figure things out, a spoonful of hot soup had already been put in front of her mouth. She blinked her eyes and her mouth instinctively opened. She did not notice that throughout the whole time, Willy had been feeding her mouthful by mouthful. Her eyebrows were slightly furrowed, and her mind was full of contemplations.

Was it true or not?

That was clearly the voice that she was so familiar with, and even had ingrained in her mind, wasn't it?

No, there had to be a difference in the voice over the phone. Did she hear it wrong, or had she just made assumptions too quickly?

However, Vanessa did go over to scold her. How could it not be true that time?

It did seem like the voice over the phone was a little different!

There were two voices fighting amongst themselves in her head, and Lauren was confused the entire time, but her little mouth did not stop eating the soup that was being fed to her. She did not notice that Willy had been feeding her, and that she had drunk two big bowls of fish soup along with another extra bowl of meat balls.

It was the baby in her belly that kicked her when she came to her senses.

Realizing that her stomach was bulging, Lauren pursed her lips and shook her head.

"Are you full?"

Putting down the small bowl in his hand, Willy wiped the corner of her mouth with a tissue and handed her some warm water. Then, he got up and walked to the other side.

"I've brought you some desserts. I saw this Boston cream pie which looked good. Tell me when you're hungry, or when you want to eat it!"

He brought the desserts to the table near the bed before sitting down on the side. Seeing the cake, Lauren bit her lips and felt a little gluttonous. She lifted her hand and grabbed a piece of if which had chocolate on it out of the dessert box. Willy smiled and got up. He took the bag over and helped her open it, then grabbed a small fork and handed it to her.

"You can eat the cake, but you should eat less chocolate. Just satisfy your craving, and then stop! If there's anything you want to eat in the future, just let me know in advance. I'll get the

chefs at home to cook for you..."

After all, home cooked food was safer.

Putting a small piece of it into her mouth, and the sweetness rippled throughout her mouth. Lauren's mood was obviously much better.

She looked up and squinted at him.

Ruffling her hair affectionately, he knew what she was confused about. He asked, "How was the fish soup?"

Biting the fork, Lauren glanced at him. She had no memory of what she had just eaten, but she nodded her head in order to make him feel good. "Do you know who made it?"

It couldn't be him, could it? Even if he cooked himself, there was no need to ask for credit like that.

Lauren rolled her eyes, and she heard a soft and teasing voice. "My mother specially asked someone to stew it for you!"

Although it was not Vanessa herself who had made it, it was still considered quite a huge step in itself.

With her dainty mouth ajar, Lauren froze abruptly. What did he just say?

Thank goodness she hadn't said it tasted bad!

Suddenly, another thought came to her mind. How could it be? Could Vanessa have put something into the soup?

She felt a chill running to her bones. Just as she was contemplating if she should try and make herself spit the food back out, she suddenly felt that there was something off about it.

If Vanessa really was to do something to her, there was no way she would be stupid enough to make it so obvious. If she was to do that, wouldn't she just be causing problems for herself and forming a rift between herself and Willy?

She retracted her thoughts, but Lauren shook her head unconsciously. How sinful of her! How could she have such evil thoughts? How could she be so pessimistic towards others' good intentions?

However, considering how much Vanessa disliked her and the disdain she held towards the baby, how could she have made soup for her?

Lauren looked up doubtfully. Willy raised his hand and pinched her little face, but suddenly realized that she had lost so much weight that her face had gotten thinner. She was pregnant and had a big belly, yet her face looked frailer than before. His heart ached so much that his voice unconsciously softened.

"The reason my mother went looking

for you, flipped the table, and lost her temper at you is because she misunderstood you over some rumors she overheard from other people. That was why she did all of that on impulse. She didn't know what kind of person you were, so she misunderstood! My mother has a rather bad temperament, and it's natural for her to be worried for me, but she's definitely not picky, and even less an unreasonable person!"

Willy looked at her with deep affection and gave her some time to process what he said before continuing.

"I'm clearly the proactive one

between us, so why would my

mother be angry at you when I'm the one who's at fault? She didn't know the full story, so it's understandable that she went to look for you in the spur of the moment. However, after I explained and after she gets the idea of the situation, how could she still cattand scold you so illogically? My mother is a little volatile at times, and she's quite prideful too. As someone with proper manners, it's not totally impossible for her to lose control once in a while, but why would she do something that would damage her reputation so badly repeatedly? If words got out, how

could she protect her reputation?"

After listening to Willy's words, Lauren had more or less understood what he meant. Could it be that the person calling to bluntly curse and scold her was not Vanessa?

"How do you know that... she didn't get someone else to do this?"

Remembering that tone and voice, Lauren was a little dazed for a while.

However, thinking about it properly, when she had approached her aggressively that day, even though her tone was not good, she had never cursed her baby. She also said that they could afford to take care of as many children as she could give birth to, but she only disagreed with Lauren being married into their family. Thinking about it, the attitude of the person on the phone towards the child was indeed a bit different. Listening to her aggrieved, scared and trembling voice, Willy's heart also twitched fiercely. "I just went home earlier. When you answered the phone in the evening, my mother was at home entertaining the neighbors!"

Taking a step forward, Willy's warm palm caressed her small face.

"Laurie, I wouldn't lie to you!

Although I don't have the evidence

of this yet, I am sure that you and my mother are both victims of this instigating incident! Simply put, someone's trying to slander you. They're putting you down in front of my mother to arouse her dissatisfaction towards you, while also impersonating my mother to increase your hatred towards her at

the same time. They might even want to infuriate you so much and try to get rid of our baby! This is the true goal of the people who are doing all these behind our backs!" Thinking of those sinister intentions, Willy leaned against her forehead and a chill ran down his spine. He closed his eyes unconsciously.

"Laurie, it's all because I didn't handle it well. It was because I realized too late that caused you to have such a huge conflict with my mother, and now everyone is suffering... Give me some time. I will definitely give you a clear answer to all of this! Just don't get angry anymore, and don't fall for their tricks anymore!" "Think about it, you're already in the hospital, and I'm clearly by your side. If it really was my mother, why would she still do these kinds of things so blatantly? If someone is daring enough to take risks at a time like this, they must be ill-intentioned and impatient, and want to seize the opportunity and stab you again while you're injured!"

She was shocked to the core, but there was a gleam of hope that appeared in Lauren's chaotic thoughts.

No wonder it didn't matter how many times she explained and promised, having done everything aside from swearing on her life, those hurtful calls still never stopped!
