Ares POV

I felt my heart hammering in my chest, beads of sweat running down the sides of my face as I gripped the reigns of my horse tightly.

I looked ahead as Fotis stood fearless in front of his army. His black silky hair shining in the sunlight as his green orbs searched the area in front of him. He raised his hand above his head, his eyes locked on me, before he lowered it signaling his attack.

His army rushed forth, their cries of war filling the air as our army rushed forth to meet them. The sound of swords clashing and clinking as they lashed against each other, the cries of men as they fell down to the ground hands pressed against wounds, the sounds of flesh being torn all surrounded me as I looked for him in the swarm of soldiers, spotting him hit a soldier with the back of his sword on the head, before rushing to pull one off Kronar, by the collar of his uniform.

He was an absolute beast.

I watched as he moved from soldier to soldier pulling them apart from killing his me. and tossing them aside as if they weighed absolutely nothing at all. It was like his mind was not even registering what he was doing.

My head snapped to the side when I noticed one orc coming up behind Aven as he fought another in front of him. I reached down into my core and tapped into that warmth, holding my hand out as I split the ground beneath his feet, sinking him him till his knees before I turned and fought the orc in front of me.

I raised my hand and sent a blast of power out of it, sending him flying across the land a few yards from me. I turned around and saw everyone fighting, a few bleeding as they dropped to the ground..

What was the point of all this? Did he really want a war?

It didn't feel like that last night when he held me. When he made love to me. When he caressed my body with his fingers. He had been gentle and loving, no where near the beast I was seeing now.

I felt my breath get caught in my throat as I watched one of our soldiers raise his sword behind Fortis. I opened my mouth to scream at him, but it seemed as though I was too late, and all I could do was watch as he drove his sword through Fortis' back, the tip of his sword coming through his stomach.

He looked down at the sword for a moment, blood oozing past his lips as he fell down to his knees, his eyes fixed on me for a second before he fell down.

"No! No!" I screamed as I let out a blast, sending all those soldiers around me flying in different directions.

I dropped my sword and ran to him, dropping down on the ground beside him. I gently placed my hands beneath his head, lifting it so he laid in my lap.

"It's okay. I'm here." I said softly as I felt my eyes begin to water when he choked up more blood when he tried to say something.

"Shh. Don't say anything. You're going to be okay." I whispered as I placed my hand on the sword and pulled it out feeling him grunt as blood poured out of his wound past my hand.

"I'm..so..sorry" he said in between his gasps for breath as he choked once more and grabbed my hand.

I placed my hand on top of his wound, closing my eyes and I willed it to heal, and yet when I opened them again, all I saw was more blood. I stared at it wide eyed then snapped my head in the direction of the person who had sat down next to me.

"You're in shock. You cannot heal him like that. You need to free your mind." Aven said as he took my hand in his and placed it over Fortis' wound, looking at Fortis as he sent his power through to him, healing the wound before he removed his hand.

"It just managed to stop the bleeding. His wound is still severe, if he doesn't get medical treatment now, he'll die" Ave. said as he looked at me then down to where Fortis lay coughing up blood.

"I know you wanted this war as closure, but..I really cannot fight you any more" he whispered as he gasped for breath.

"What?" I asked in a whisper, turning my shocked gaze towards Aven who too looked like he was surprised at what he was hearing.

"Fortis, I didn't want this war. You were the one who sent us that letter waging war. It was signed by the king, that's why I was so shocked at Kronar referring to you as the king" I answered and watched him look back at me with a confused expression that told me had no idea what I was talking about so..

Who had sent that letter?

I turned my head when I heard someone screaming, soldiers stopping at the sound as they made way for someone who came towards us. He dropped down beside Fortis and removed his helmet to reveal Kronar, drenched in blood.

"It wasn't supposed to be you. It was supposed to be him" he said as he took Fortis' hand in his while Fortis looked at him, an unsure expression crossing his face.

"Did.. did you do this?" He asked as he looked at Kronar.

"I just wanted him gone. Even though he wasn't here, he was all you thought about and it made me so angry. I thought that if I could end him once and for all, then you'd finally be mine, just like when we were younger" Kronar said as he raised Fortis' hand to his mouth intent on kissing it only for Fortis to rip his hand away from Kronar.

"You disgust me and I will always loath you to my core. I only did what I did with you, to protect my child. When you found out that the reason I sent Ares back was because he was pregnant, you chose to use that against me, that is something I will never forgive you for" Fortis replied with great difficulty as he struggled to breathe in between his gasps.

Kronar looked at him heartbroken, tears filling in his eyes, and I wished I could have felt for him in that moment, but he had pissed me off so many times for me to do so and more over, he had the fucking nerve to forge a war between two nations just because he was fucking jealous!

"If I can't have you, then no one can" he whispered, Fortis eyes narrowing at that response.

It all happened so quickly, one minute I was staring at Kronar wondering what the fuck was wrong with him, and the next, I had my eyes widened as Kronar plunged a dagger into Fortis' chest.

I screamed and ripped a root through the ground, tangling it around Kronar and lifting him into the air, strangling his body with it while I rushed to place my hand over the stab wound in his chest, bleeding profusely.

I tried to whisper to him words of healing in order to calm him down which all seemed futile when his body went into shock, blood spilling past his wound as I tried to stop it. Tears rolling down my face, blurring my vision as I desperately tired to keep him alive when I felt his life force slipping through my hands.

I watched as all our soldiers, even the orcs stood by and watched, sorrow and shock crossing their features as they too didn't know what to do. I looked at Aven who had been trying to heal the wounds, though nothing seemed to be working.

I stopped my whisperings when I felt Fortis reach out to me, his bloody hand replaceing mine as he took it into his. I looked at him, his glowing green orbs that seemed to be losing their glow as he smiled at me.

"I..love..you.. so much. So much Ares" he whispered before his eyes closed, his hand dropping to his side nimbly as the breath left his body.

"No!..no! Please. No. Don't leave.. not now" I screamed as I laid my forehead against his chest screaming.

My screams echoing throughout the battlefield as I cried and let everything out. The rage, the pain, the sorrow, the grieve. Everything, when it dawned upon me..

He had now left me forever.
