Chapter 112 Sacrifice in the Sea of Fire
“Urban Escape” is said to be a top project from Sin City Films, and the
lead actress role had finally been decided to be Mary.
The news was like a bombshell, causing a massive stir in the entertainment industry.
Just a few days ago, Caesar terminated Mary’s contract, and the issue was still brewing. Now public opinion had sud
y shifted.
People criticized Caesar for lacking vision and foresight, claiming. they missed a great opportunity.
On social media, Mary’s fans formed a group to attack Caesar, not forgetting to curse Yvonne, believing she maliciously retaliated. against Mary.
This wave of public opinion caused the board, already unhappy with the change in spokesperson, to act up again, questioning Yvonne’s decision–making ability.
Megan called Yvonne repeatedly, anxiously telling her that several board members had arrived and Chairman Charles was trying to calm
them down.
Yvonne didn’t move. She just lay by the bed, her fingers lightly
brushing her mother’s knuckles, her heart filled with complex.
emotions.
At nine o’clock, morning light gently filled the room, lazily casting golden patches on the light curtains,
With a light breeze blowing, the room was bathed in a warm, dappled glow.
Hannah finally woke from her heavy slumber.
Her blurry eyes ‘gradually cleared, focusing on her daughter Yvonne. standing by the bed.
In that instant, Hannah’s eyes seemed to burst with stars, tears silently sliding down her aged cheeks.
Yvonne gently approached, hugging her mother as tenderly as a spring breeze.
Her voice was soft and soothing, “What’s wrong?”
Hannah’s lips trembled as she tried to steady her emotions, but her words still carried a tremor, “She said your father, under the guise of support, was actually…”
At this point, tears uncontrollably fell like broken pearls.
Yvonne’s expression shifted from gentle to serious, a cold glint flashing in her eyes.
Her body stiffened slightly, and she asked calmly, “Do you believe it?” Her gaze pierced through, seeking the truth.
Hannah shook her head, her eyes filled with tears, “I don’t believe it, but…”
Her voice grew softer, weighed down by immense emotion.
“Mom, I absolutely don’t believe it. Would you rather believe an outsider than my father?”
Yvonne’s voice, though calm, was resolute and firm, adding a heavier atmosphere to the deeply contemplative room.
The delicate relationship between generations had become complex since her father’s passing. Now, such accusations were like salt on a wound.
For someone like Hannah, whose mental state fluctuated, such unverifiable accusations, true or not, would deeply hurt her.
Hearing her daughter’s words, Hannah felt a deep struggle and guilt, covering her head and crying in agony.
“Yvonne, I don’t know. I really don’t know what to do.” Her heart was torn by confusion and fear, like standing at a crossroads, unsure
which way to go.
Yvonne held her tightly, gently patting her back, trying to make her
feel safe and loved.
“It’s okay, Mom. It’s okay.” Her voice was softer and more comforting, trying to dispel the dark shadows in her mother’s heart.
Hannah looked at her for a while, the room so quiet they co each other’s breathing.
I hear
Her eyes suddenly turned wild and chaotic. Suddenly, driven by a strong emotion, she grabbed Yvonne’s neck with her arm.
Her eyes were not only filled with anger but also confusion and madness.
“Have you ever done such things? Have you cheated?” Hannah’s voice was almost a scream, echoing through the cold, quiet room.
Yvonne tried to struggle, but Hannah’s strength was surprisingly
strong.
Her vision started to blur, and a strong sense of helplessness surged
in her heart.
Simultaneously, memories of her childhood flashed in her mind: she looked a lot like her father, which made her mother unusually fond of her, causing her brother to be jealous.
Her father attending a parent–teacher conference during high school, even being mistaken for her brother by a young English teacher, was something her father once boasted about.
Her thoughts were suddenly interrupted by Susan’s scream. Susan tried to pull Hannah away, but the two women were no match for
Hannah in her frenzied state.
Yvonne managed to squeeze out a few words from her throat, “No,
no, I only love you.”
It wasn’t until Benson and George arrived that she was freed.
Benson called the doctor, and after a while, Hannah finally calmed down.
She sat back on the bed in a daze, muttering to herself, as if
questioning herself, “If not, then… then why would others know about the birthmark on your waist?”
Yvonne was too shocked to speak, feeling the marks of Hannah’s
nails on her neck.
She touched her neck, tears flowing uncontrollably.
This was the first time her mother had questioned her so fiercely. Besides feeling hurt, she also felt an indescribable disappointment.
Hannah looked at Benson supporting Yvonne, her eyes filled with confusion, “Are you… the guest?”
“Not a guest, Yvonne’s husband,” Benson said, his voice low and firm.
Yvonne pushed Benson away, giving him a cold glance before leaving the room.
She never wanted Mary to have any connection with her, but she guessed correctly.
As long as Benson was around, Mary could always make a comeback.
Just like this time, despite the huge scandal, Benson managed to secure a lead role and a spokesperson deal for her.
He didn’t care about the trouble his decisions caused her….
Yvonne’s husband? How dare he say that? What a joke!
Yvonne closed her eyes, as if she could hear her heart wailing.
For the first time, she regretted deeply, never imagining that marriage would plunge her into a pit of despair.
Simultaneously, she wondered: did her father, John, ever regret his
actions back then?
Amidst the howling wind, Yvonne and her father once found the overturned Taylor family’s car on their way home.
Charles was severely injured, bleeding profusely, nearly unconscious.
Benson, too, had lost the light in his eyes.
It was a heartbreaking scene, capable of breaking any compassionate heart.
John, a man of justice, saw it as his duty to help others.
He decided to stay, using his first–aid kit to treat Charles urgently,
while asking Yvonne and her brother to take Benson to the nearest
hospital for help.
In the car, Yvonne constantly comforted the blind Benson, her voice gentle and firm.
“Don’t worry, we’ll get help soon.”
But her internal anxiety and fear surged like dark waves, worried
about her father facing the crisis alone.
The painful memories clung to her like twisted shadows in the dark.
Her father eventually faced retribution for his help, perishing in a fire along with her brother.
The fire had burhed away all her support and hope.
Now, though she had become the daughter–in–law of the Taylor family, she didn’t feel the protection from her husband, often caught in the complex family disputes.
Her heart was already weary.
Yvonne couldn’t know if her father regretted his decisio.. n his final
moments.
But she knew her choice had brought endless sadness and despair.
