Chapter 164 Misplaced Love

In Matthew’s villa, their room was unusually quiet.

Night had draped itself over the entire room, with moonlight seeping through the gaps in the curtains, casting a faint glow on the floor.

The air was filled with a subtle woody fragrance, adding to the tranquility.

Everything in the room seemed to be still, with only the ticking of the clock’s second hand breaking the silence.

Benson stood by the window, his brows slightly furrowed, his deep eyes full of complex emotions.

His fingers gripped the windowsill tightly, knuckles turning white from the

pressure.

The scenery outside the window was blurry, as if shrouded in a thin mist, making it look hazy and mysterious.

He turned around and walked slowly toward Yvonne. She sat in a chair in the middle of the room, her gaze calm and indifferent.

The distance between them gradually closed, and it seemed as if every particle of dust in the air could feel the tension between them.

Benson stood in front of her, gently gripping her shoulders, trying to replace at trace of response in her eyes.

In the room bathed in the soft winter twilight, the warm yellow light added a touch of warmth to the solemn atmosphere.

His voice was low and magnetic, like a cello playing softly in the night, each note heavy and pleading.

“Yvonne,” he said softly, “I just don’t want anyone or anything to affect our relationship. I just want to make amends to her.

Yvonne sat in the large leather chair opposite him, her usually bright eyes now glistening with tears, making her gaze even deeper and more complex.

Although a storm raged inside her, she maintained an elegant calm on the surface. She took a deep breath, trying to dispel the chaos in her mind and

keep her voice steady.

“Amends? Benson, have you ever considered that the person you’ve been searching for might not be Olivia, but me?”

Her voice trembled slightly, trying to conceal her emotional turmoil.

Benson’s expression subtly changed. He moved his lips as if wanting to speak but remained silent.

He looked at her in silence, his eyes filled with complex emotions, as if he had thousands of words but couldn’t replace a way to expr

expr them.

Yvonne’s heart sank, and a wave of disappointment washed over her.

She had thought she would be overjoyed when she realized that Benson had been searching for her all these years.

But reality was more ironic and absurd.

“See, he’s looking for her, and that makes it impossible for her to be happy.”

Yvonne laughed at herself, her laughter tinged with an indescribable bitterness, and tears finally fell from the corners of her eyes.

“How pitiful I am, like a fool, deceived, manipulated, and played like a puppet.”

Benson’s eyes s suddenly deepened, as if trying to capture Yvonne’s soul. He looked at her lovingly but remained silent.

Yvonne felt a chill she had never experienced before. His silence was like a boulder pressing on her fragile heart.

“Benson, you say you came here to avoid anyone or anything affecting our relationship, but that’s not the whole truth.”

Her voice gradually became sharp.

“Actually, you’re afraid. You’re afraid I’ll do something bad to your ‘special person,‘ right?”

This time, Benson’s eyes flickered, as if his deepest secret had been exposed.

He knew Yvonne’s intelligence, and it was this intelligence that made it

impossible for him to refute.

Her direct questioning made him feel unprecedented pressure.

She saved my life and was my first woman. Benson finally explained in a low

voice:

His words were filled with helplessness and pain. “You and she are

acquaintances. I don’t want you to feel awkward.”

His voice was laden with complex emotions, revealing his inner struggle and helplessness.

Listening to his explanation, Yvonne’s disappointment deepened.

She turned her head to look out the window, the dark night reflecting her inner

void and loneliness.

She no longer expected him to understand her feelings, nor did she hope for a warm response from him.

“Alright, enough explanations.” She said tiredly, her voice tinged with -undisguised sorrow.

She avoided his touch, leaning back slightly in her chair as if to distance

herself from his warmth.

However, Benson didn’t give up.

He cupped her face, his eyes filled with deep affection and pain.

“Yvonne, I really don’t want to hurt you. Olivia is imprisoned by that man, without freedom, like a walking corpse. I can’t just ignore it.”

Hearing about Olivia’s plight, Yvonne indeed felt a bit sad.

They had been childhood friends, going to school together, taking exams. together, studying abroad together.

Living so close, she couldn’t remain indifferent. Of course, she hoped Olivial could be well.

But now, she no longer believed Benson’s words. Her trust had been worn. down by repeated lies and deception.

When Benson’s hand touched Yvonne’s cold wrist, her reaction was equally

cold and swift.

Her push was not only a physical rejection but also felt like her heart was

encased in tee, impregnable

The light fell on her old face, with ocenional warm rays breaking through the sparse elouds, but on her, the light seemed to reflect into toy points.

Her voice was low and steady, as if sharp blades were being rolensed from zero degree lee

“I need to understand Olivia’s situation hyself before making any decisions.” Each word fell like an iceberg, ringing

Benson’s facial muscles twisted involuntarily, a mix of pain and complex emotions.

“Yvonne, I’m very worried about you being alone.”

His voice choked, trying to ease the atmosphere, bu a could only watch her back, feeling the growing distance.

The air seemed to thicken, the aura between them intertwining and pulling.

Yvonne took a deep breath, trying to calm her emotions behind a mask of tranquility.

“Alright, Benson. Since you’re not leaving… let’s not talk about this for now.”

She suddenly changed the subject, “Tell me about Mary. Where is she now? What do you plan to do with her?”

At these words, Benson’s frown deepened.

His eyes were confused, as if haunted by past shadows, struggling to break free.

She no longer belongs to the company I haven’t considered what to do with her.”

A cold gleam flashed in Yvonne’s eyes, her sharp gaze cutting through the

night.

“Then, does your previous statement about letting me deal with Mary as I wish still stand?” Her tone was resolute, piercing the night wind.

Benson immediately felt uneasy, knowing Yvonne’s character and decisiveness.

His expression turned wary, his whole body tensed.

What exactly do you want to do? Are you planning another physical confrontation today? Or do you have other plans? Her issues, I will handle.”

Yvonne’s voice grew sharper, her emotions rising with her words.

“Your handling is just empty talk. Are you planning to use her reputation for payback again?*

Disappointment and anger emanated from her voice, “Benson, you really disappoint me.”

He didn’t know what she truly wanted.

He didn’t understand her at all!
