Chapter 168 The Vicious Cycle of Marriage
In a small motel room, two people whispered to each other, leaving outsiders unaware of what was said.
The atmosphere in the room was heavy and tense, as if secrets and unresolved mysteries lingered in the air.
When Yvonne came downstairs, her expression was calm and indifferent.
It was as if everything she had just experienced hadn’t stirred the “ghtest ripple in her heart.
Her cool demeanor exuded an unapproachable elegance, as if an invisible. barrier separated her from the world.
Her steps were slow but firm, each one taken with silent determination, as if crushing past memories beneath her feet.
She wore little, and the cold wind seemed to penetrate her thin clothing.
Seeing this, Benson immediately took off his coat, intending to drape it over her shoulders.
However, Yvonne subtly avoided his concern and got into the car.
Her actions were natural and resolute, as if she was already accustomed to avoiding him.
Benson’s face stiffened slightly, his hand pausing in mid–air, caught in a moment of awkwardness.
He sighed silently and got into the car as well.
After years of navigating the business world, Yvonne had developed a skill: no matter how uncomfortable she felt, she wouldn’t let it show on her face.
She knew she couldn’t reveal any weakness now, as it would only give the other party an advantage.
The four of them had come to St. George together.
Despite the friction between her and Benson, it had nothing to do with William and Matthew, and she didn’t want her mood to affect theirs.
On the way back to the villa, Yvonne chatted with Matthew, her if the earlier incident had never happened.
tone relaxed, as
She had planned to buy some local specialties after coming down from the mountain, but Mary’s appearance had disrupted those plans.
“Matthew, could you accompany me to buy some things later?” Yvonne asked with a smile, her voice carrying a hint of a plea.
“Of course,” Matthew agreed readily, seemingly unaware of her inner turmoil.
Throughout the journey, Yvonne didn’t speak another word to Benson.
She had already decided that there was nothing more to s between them. Her gaze was resolute, as if she had made an unwavering desion in her heart.
When they returned to the villa, Benson silently walked into his room.
William, having only a few pieces of luggage, didn’t know how to communicate with Benson. Despite Yvonne’s constant laughter, the sparkle in her eyes was long gone.
A person’s emotions are hard to truly conceal, especially when disappointment and pain run deep..
Benson went upstairs to replace the room somewhat messy.
The down jacket Yvonne had worn up the mountain in the morning was now casually thrown into the trash can, as if it were an intolerable memory.
Benson sat on the edge of the bed, his mind filled with images of her tearful eyes, his heart a mix of emotions.
He remembered how harshly he had treated her and how she had cried silently under his cold words.
He couldn’t bear to hear her define their relationship in such painful terms, which filled him with immense pain and anger.
He had always thought he liked Yvonne, but now he doubted whether that liking was enough, at least not as deep as her love for him.
Benson was filled with contradictions and confusion. He wondered if resolving the “Olivia” issue would make things better, whether his heart could then focus solely on Yvonne.
He pondered but couldn’t replace an answer
As darkness fell, Matthew and Yvonne finally returned.
Yvonne wore a thick down jacket, the furry collar making her look pure and flawless, like an elf in the
snow.
“I brought dinner,” Matthew said with a smile, trying to ease the awkward
atmosphere.
“Let’s leave early tomorrow morning; it’s Thanksgiving, and safety comes first,” Yvonne suggested, her tone light and natural.
William nodded in agreement, and Benson had no objections e knew he had to comply with Yvonne’s decisions at this moment.
After dinner, Yvonne went to her room to video call her mother, explaining the delay in her trip.
Her voice was gentle and calm, trying not to worry her mother. She ended the call quickly, sensing Benson’s presence approaching.
Benson entered the room and sat next to her, trying to get close. However, Yvonne instinctively got up and moved away from him.
Her movements were swift and decisive; rejecting him had become second
nature.
“Do we have to be like this?” Benson’s voice carried a hint of helplessness and pain. He didn’t understand how their relationship had reached this point.
“I gave you a chance, and you didn’t take it,” Yvonne said, looking directly into his eyes, her tone cold and resolute. “Benson, you turned it into this.”
Her words were sharp as a knife, piercing his heart.
She knew she had given him enough chances, but he had repeatedly let her down.
Her eyes flashed with pain and anger, but more so with deep helplessness and disappointment.
As for the person he had found, let him continue down this path of error.
Yvonne silently thought to herself; she no longer cared. Whoever he was
involved with mear nothing to her an
Benson, she was done with him and wouth’t love him again. One foolish mistake was enough.
Yvonne, sometimes you really shouldn’t be so smart, Benson sighed, his velce filled with exhaustion and helplessness
He lifted his eyes and looked at her, “Your relationship with Olivia is good, isn’t
Yvonne stood not far away, looking at him, then suddenly laughed.
“Benson, what do you want? To threaten me, like you threatened. before?”
Benson didn’t deny it, his expression cold and determined.
CUS
He knew he had to use some means to keep her by his side. Deep down, he was unwilling to take such a risk, fearing that if he let go, she would truly disappear.
This time, without using “Olivia,” she would surely cause a scene and demand. a divorce. He had no other choice.
Yvonne sighed. Look at this life; it had ultimately fallen into the same vicious cycle.
Just like Mary had asked her today, what did she gain?
Mary had said, “You’ve been married to him for three years; you must really like. him, right? But how does it feel when the man you love likes your good friend?”
Honestly, Yvonne didn’t feel much anymore. However, his reluctance to let her go while not really liking her puzzled her.
“Benson, are you sure? Are you sure you want to use the ‘Olivia‘ matter to keep me by your side?”
“I’m sure,” Benson replied without hesitation, his tone firm.
Yvonne nodded, her eyes flashing with coldness, “Alright, then I can pretend to be a bit foolish.”
