Benson 31
Chapter 31 Tangled Emotions
Yvonne shook her head resolutely, trying to keep Marcus out of this mess. This has nothing to do with Marcus. It’s my own decision.”
Benson frowned, a hint of confusion flashing in his eyes. “Then I really don’t understand. You’re so eager for a divorce, so why did you drug me?”
Yvonne’s gaze was steady as she looked directly at Benson. “If I said I didn’t drug you, would you believe me?”
“No,” Benson answered without hesitation.
Yvonne smiled bitterly. She knew that no matter what she said, Benson wouldn’t believe her. She turned away, avoiding his eyes, hoping silence would end this pointless argument.
Benson, displeased with Yvonne’s cold attitude, began to get restless. He tried to break her defenses through physical contact.
Yvonne struggled, but Benson’s strength far exceeded hers, and he easily restrained her
movements.
In the end, she gave up resisting, allowing Benson to kiss her neck. His laughter echoed in
her ears.
Benson propped himself up, his eyes capturing Yvonne’s defiant yet alluring expression in the dim light. “I don’t like forcing people. I believe that one day, you’ll come back to me willingly.”
Yvonne covered herself with the blanket in irritation, her voice firm with determination.
Dream on. That will never happen again.”
At six in the morning, the sky was still dark when Yvonne’s phone rang urgently.
She answered hurriedly, replaceing out there was an emergency at the company that needed
her immediate attention.
While talking on the phone, Yvonne quickly got out of bed and started getting busy.
Benson, woken by the phone’s ringtone, lazily rested his head on his arm, watching Yvonne’s movements without any intention of getting up.
Yvonne busily packed her travel luggage until everything was ready.
Then she turned to Benson and said, “Remember to close the door when you leave.”
Benson leaned against the headboard, one leg bent, a playful look on his face. “That’s it? Nothing else?”
Yvonne asked back, puzzled, “What else?”
Benson raised an eyebrow, recalling how Yvonne had clung to him like an octopus last
night. This morning, she was so cold and unfeeling
“How long will you be on your trip? Benson tried to probe further.
“Not sure.” Yvonne replied briefly and vaguely
Benson understood that this “not sure was just an excuse because Yvonne didn’t want to tell him
“I’ll be waiting for you,” Benson said, his voice carrying a deep meaning
Yvonne felt a tightening in her chest, sensing that Benson’s ‘waiting for you” implied something more, causing her to feel an inexplicable pressure
Yvonne didn’t have time to delve into Benson’s meaningful words because she was facing a pressing task–dealing with issues between the company and a strategic partner and distributor
She had to go personally to ensure things were resolved smoothly.
That evening, while she was busy, Benson sent her a WeChat message.
The content left her baffled: “Marcus asked who the man is who broke up with you. How should I answer?”
Yvonne felt Benson’s actions were pointless and even somewhat pathological, so she chose to ignore it.
Two days later, Yvonne unexpectedly received a message from Marcus with a photo of a repaired brooch.
She was surprised to see how quickly and perfectly the brooch had been repaired.
Marcus followed up with an invitation: “Let’s have dinner together in Las Vegas tonight. I want to thank you and discuss something.”
Yvonne thought it best to explain the situation between her and Benson to Marcus personally
However, Marcus’s next words made Yvonne uneasy: “No, tonight Matthew is thanking Mr. Donald, and I want to personally express my gratitude.”
Yvonne immediately realized that the brooch’s repair might be related to Matthew and Mr. Donald. She quickly confirmed: “Did Matthew replace Mr. Donald to repair the brooch?”
“Yes,” Marcus replied concisely and affirmatively. Yvonne’s unease grew stronger, sensing that this dinner might not be as simple as she hoped.
Yvonne paused for a moment, then called Matthew, trying to learn more about Mr. Donald.
On the other end, Matthew revealed the deep friendship between Donald and Benson.
This reminded Yvonne of what Benson once said, “There will be a time when you come to me willingly,” causing a surge of unease in her heart.
At that moment, Benson was accompanying Donald on a tour of the military governor’s residence.
Donald asked curiously, “Young Taylor, what is the owner of this brooch to you?”
Benson was momentarily speechless, unsure how to define his relationship with Yvonne.
After a moment’s hesitation, he finally answered, “No one important.”
Donald clearly didn’t believe it. “Not important, yet you asked me to help?”
He stared intently at Benson, clearly replaceing Benson’s answer unbelievable.
His tone carried obvious skepticism, implying that there must be a deeper emotional entanglement behind Benson’s request, not just an insignificant person.
Benson felt helpless in the face of Donald’s skepticism.
He smiled slightly, a smile mixed with bitterness and self–mockery, finally choosing to be honest: “It’s my wife’s brooch.”
Donald, intrigued by the young man’s emotional life, recalled how years ago, Benson had spared no effort to have him make an engagement ring, only to replace out that Benson never got to present it.
“If you have time, bring your loved one over. I’d like to see what kind of woman makes you so earnest,” Donald suggested.
A bitter smile flashed across Benson’s face. “I haven’t found her yet…” implying the ring had never been given.
Donald was taken aback, patting Benson’s hand, speaking with heartfelt advice. “You were born into the Taylor family. Some things are beyond your control.”
Benson smiled bitterly. “You’ve said both the good and bad.”
“I’ll skip the good. I’ll tell you the unpleasant truth. Between your wife and the one in your heart, whom will you choose?” Donald asked directly.
Benson’s gaze was firm. “The one in my heart is my light. I will never forget her and am willing to pay any price to see her again.”
As for his relationship with Yvonne, Benson believed that everything would come to an end after some time.
After hosting Donald, Benson returned home, replaceing Yvonne sitting on the sofa, seemingly waiting for him. Her luggage was beside her, showing she had just returned from a trip.
“Back already?” Benson’s voice had a tinge of sarcasm, his sharp gaze sweeping over Yvonne’s tired face and the luggage, as if mocking her return.
Benson patios
Benson didn’t deny it. He sat down, his tone calm yet commanding. “Take it off.”
