William, however, remained unusually calm. He sat cross–legged on a single sofa, one hand propping up his chin, the other casually fiddling with his phone.
His eyes held a hint of amusement, as if he was calculating something.
“Do you want to sleep with her?” William’s sudden question stunned Paul, who frowned in response.
“William, what nonsense are you talking about? I’m old enough to be her father!” Paul’s tone was mixed with anger and helplessness.
“Exactly. If she weren’t tied up, who among us could resist her advances?” William said nonchalantly, as if discussing a mundane matter.
“Wait for what?” Paul asked, still puzzled.
“Her husband, of course,” William replied, leaving Paul even more shocked.
“Yvonne is married?” Paul’s voice was full of disbelief.
William lazily affirmed with a hum, checking the time on his phone and glancing at Yvonne, whose eyes were now tearful, seemingly waiting for something.
Yvonne’s body grew hotter by the minute. She felt like she was being scorched, her consciousness fading. Yet she could still hear William and Paul’s conversation.
Desperation filled her heart. She began to hope for Benson’s arrival, wishing he could save
her.
William waited another ten minutes, then finally smiled and dialed Benson’s number.
“Speak!” Benson’s voice was charp and cold, clearly indicating his displeasure.
The sudden harsh tone surprised William. He had expected Benson to respond more calmly.

Matthew had even asserted that the rift between them was irreparable. However, Benson’s current indifference and unhurried demeanor seemed to confirm Matthew’s judgment.
“I really am disturbing you,” William tried to lighten the mood with a casual tone, his laughter tinged with awkwardness.
“Send her to the hospital. Why are you calling me?” Benson’s reply was even sharper, laced. with impatience, as if William’s call was an unnecessary bother.
William sighed, realizing Benson was unwilling to help at this moment.
“Alright, I’ll call Marcus then,” he said, his voice showing a hint of regret.
Yvonne felt like countless needles were pricking her, the pain unbearable. Tears flowed down her cheeks, dropping onto the cold floor with faint sounds.
William stood by, his gaze complex as he looked at Yvonne, feeling a pang of pity.
He silently wondered why Yvonne had to fall for someone so cold–hearted. It seemed like. self–inflicted suffering.
“Carry her, let’s go,” William said with a hint of resignation.
“Isn’t her husband coming?” Paul asked, bewildered.
“Ex–husband,” William corrected, his tone tinged with sarcasm.
On the other end of the call, Benson hung up, his expression cold, as if the conversation had nothing to do with him.
His eyes were void of emotion, like a stagnant pond, unperturbed by any outside disturbance.
He resumed reading the meeting documents, appearing indifferent, as if nothing in the world could stir his heart.
His fingers slid over the papers without pause, as if handling something completely unrelated to him.
George, sitting across from him, heard everything clearly. His brow furrowed, eyes flashing with confusion and concern.
Unable to hold back, he spoke up, his voice carrying a note of accusation, “You’re not divorced, right?” His words were like a sharp knife aimed at Benson’s heart.
Benson didn’t respond, his gaze fixed on the documents, as if George’s question didn’t deserve an answer.
His face remained expressionless, like a statue, cold and lifeless.
George pressed on the documents, reminding him, “You’re holding it upside down.” His voice carried a hint of helplessness, knowing Benson wasn’t truly reading but avoiding the Issue

George picked up the phone and called William, anxiously asking, “William, which hospita are you going to?”
“We’re on our way to replace Marcus,” William replied, wanting to give Marcus a hand.
William glanced at Yvonne in the backseat. She was bound, her wrists red and raw from struggling.
After Benson’s call, Yvonne had become unusually quiet, but her body trembled incessantly due to the drug, looking pitiful.
Her consciousness began to blur, vaguely hearing William mention Marcus’s name.
Warmth filled her heart as she thought of Marcus’s kindness.
Outside, it seemed to be raining. Raindrops pattered against the car windows, a somber sound, as if the sky was murmuring.
The car’s interior was heavy with tension, Yvonne’s body trembling from pain and the drug’s effects, her eyes searching aimlessly.
The car drove on for what felt like an eternity before finally stopping. The surroundings were pitch black, only occasional distant headlights cutting through the night.
Paul and William stepped out to talk with someone, their voices muffled by the rain and wind, the conversation fragmented.
Yvonne’s ears caught some words, but her mind couldn’t process them, her consciousness muddled by the drug.
Soon, the car door opened, letting in a rush of cold air. Yvonne shivered from the chill.
The towel was gently removed from her mouth. She felt the cold touch of the person’s fingers, making her shiver.
She was pulled into a warm embrace, bringing a sense of safety and comfort Instinctively. she leaned closer.
Unconsciously, Yvonne kissed the person’s neck, her lips brushing the skin lightly. She trembled, murmuring. “Marcus, kiss me…”
