Chapter 53 The Weight of Departure

Marcus walked away slowly, his back filled with loneliness and dishevelment, carrying all his failures and pain.

His steps were heavy, each one a difficult leap over emotional barriers, evoking a sense of deep sorrow.

As his figure grew smaller and finally disappeared from sight, a profound silence and contemplation remained.

Yvonne’s eyes welled up with tears, her thoughts drifting back to the previous night when Marcus, with a group of men, aggressively wanted to confront Zoe.

But in the end, under Yvonne’s persuasion, Marcus chose to back down. He stood before. her, his gaze firm and gentle, saying, “Yvonne, I’m always behind you, so don’t be afraid.”

At that moment, a warm feeling surged in Yvonne’s heart. She thought that as long as she didn’t meet Marcus again, she could completely sever the emotional entanglement.

However, reality turned out to be far more complex than she had imagined.

Marcus’s figure had already vanished from sight, his departure bearing an indescribable weight.

Benson finally leaned lazily in his chair, motioning for the nurse to continue applying medicine. His eyes carried a hint of amusement as he glanced at Yvonne, his tone indifferent, “Is it fun?”

Yvonne stood before Benson, her expression calm, in stark contrast to the complex emotions she had when looking at Marcus,

Benson continued, “I’m helping you.” Yvonne frowned slightly, questioning, “Helping me?” It sounded like a joke.

“Marcus has fallen for you, and you’re getting emotionally involved too. I’m preventing you from making a mistake in your marriage!” Benson’s words carried a self–righteous sense of justice.

However, these words ignited Bella’s fury. She couldn’t help but retort, “How can you

criticize others? You hypocrite! You’re frequently in the tabloids with Mary, spending nights together. Are you any better?”

Bella’s anger erupted like a volcano, and she dragged Yvonne out, not wanting her to endure any more of Benson’s hurtful words.

Benson, however, unhurriedly called after Yvonne, his voice commanding, “Come back.”

“You wish! Not coming back,” Bella shot him a fierce look over her shoulder.

Bella dragged Yvonne out of the suffocating room, her heart filled with anger and

indignation.

“What’s with him now? Is he addicted to sleeping around? Doesn’t he want a divorce now? How can he be like this? Didn’t you say he exchanged rings with someone else? He’s such a jerk. When he gave you that pendant, was he just trying to get you into bed?” Bella’s words were filled with contempt for Benson and sympathy for Yvonne.

Past memories resurfaced, causing a ripple in Yvonne’s heart, but she quickly regained her composure. She reassured her angry friend, “It’s okay… He’s good in bed, and I got ten

million.”

Yvonne’s words carried a resigned acceptance. She tried to measure the value of this relationship in monetary terms, though it sounded somewhat ironic.

“Ten million?” Bella’s anger subsided slightly. She knew what this money meant for Yvonne. At least materially, Yvonne wouldn’t be in trouble because of this failed marriage.

“Yeah, he’s generous with other women too. It’s just a game, don’t be so angry.” Yvonne continued, her tone detached, as if she had already seen through everything.

She no longer cared about Benson. After what happened, she felt more at peace.

Bella still felt sorry for her. Once unable to love, now unable to leave.

Yvonne asked Bella to talk to Marcus. She couldn’t go now. At this point, she didn’t want to give Marcus any false hope. He needed to slowly forget.

“Okay, I’ll take care of it. Don’t worry. Are you going back?” Bella frowned, worried Yvonne might get hurt again.

“Yes, I need to talk to him.” Yvonne said. They couldn’t divorce immediately; there were still many things entangled. A sudden break wouldn’t be right.

She knew that although there was no love left, the practical entanglements and interests in reality prevented her from leaving immediately.

Yvonne returned to the hospital hallway and found Benson standing by the window, talking on the phone.

His voice carried a hint of impatience, “Why are you coming here? My wife is here.” From the voice on the other end, Yvonne guessed it was Mary.

She didn’t disturb him, instead quietly sitting on the bench in the lobby, replying to Megan’s messages while waiting for Benson to finish his call.

When he finally hung up, Benson turned and looked at Yvonne, asking, “Something to say?”

Yvonne looked up, their eyes meeting, as if they could read each other’s minds.

“Do you have time?” she asked, her tone tinged with sarcasm, knowing he had just been talking to Mary.

“Let’s go.” Benson said no more, just extended his hand toward her.

Yvonne glanced at his hand but didn’t take it, instead putting her hands in her coat pockets. and following him

Once in the car. Yvonne looked straight at Benson, her gaze firm and clear. “Don’t you think you went too far with Marcus?” Her voice carried a hint of reproach.

Benson studied her for a moment, a barely noticeable smile playing on his lips. “Feeling sorry for him?” His tone was slightly provocative

Yvonne took a deep breath, trying to stay calm. Benson, you know everything. Marcus and I have nothing, barely any chance to meet alone. Don’t you think you were too harsh?” Her words, revealed her discontent with Benson’s actions.

“Nothing, huh? You two were so close, video calling, and he fought for you.” Benson’s tone camed evident suspicion and disbelief.

Yvonne felt exasperated, her voice rising a bit, “Before accusing others, can you reflect on yourself? What about you and Mary? Don’t you realize your own actions? Do I have the right to make her stay away from you?”

Her tone remained steady, but her eyes shone with determination.

Benson saw her eyes redden, like a rabbit’s, with tears welling up

This was the first time she had mentioned him and Mary. His mood inexplicably brightened as he tilted his head to seriously look at her.

Her slightly stubborn look was attractive and appealing.

Benson leaned forward, “If you make her stay away from me, I won’t interfere.” He said, gently patting her back, trying to comfort her.

Yvonne didn’t believe a word, scoffing, “Marcus is off–limits. Stop your madness.”

Benson wrapped his arm around her waist, his gaze falling on her red lips, lowering his

head to kiss her.

Yvonne pushed him away. “Benson, what do you really want? Her voice was filled with exhaustion and helplessness.

‘To kiss you. Isn’t it obvious? Benson’s voice was low and seductive, but Yvonne’s heart remained cold
