Chapter 66 Emotional Rift

Yvonne was truly exhausted Sitting in her office, a trace of weariness showed in her eyes.

She knew that ending this marriage wouldn’t be easy, but she was ready.

Benson, having finished his work, was about to head to Agya Films to meet Yvonne when her lawyer arrived first.

The lawyer’s face bore a professional sternness, and his tone was firm and strong.

“Mr. Benson, my client’s request is simple. If you sign the divorce papers, she will leave with nothing. If you don’t, since there was no prenuptial agreement, half of your companies, properties, and shares will be hers. Oh, and Miss Yvonne asked me to remind you that if this goes to court, your affair with Miss Mary, which has already hit the headlines, will be used as evidence of your infidelity. This could affect your career and Miss Mary’s reputation….

Benson crossed his long legs naturally, tapping his fingers rhythmically on his knee, and after a long pause, he said, “Threatening me? First, Megan made things difficult for her, and now a divorce lawyer shows up.”

His voice carried a hint of a sneer, but his eyes were exceptionally calm.

Miss Yvonne really knew how to handle things with both efficiency and style. He thought to himself that she always managed to surprise him at critical moments.

“Mr. Benson, you are a respectable man and the future head of the Taylor Group. You can’t afford any stains on your reputation. Signing the papers is in your best interest,” the lawyer added with a tone of undeniable certainty.

Benson squinted slightly, imagining Yvonne dictating each word to the lawyer.

She was always calm, rational, and adept at using every available resource. He had to admit, she was a skilled negotiator, with every move precise and powerful.

After getting rid of the chattering lawyer, he felt a sense of relief, as if a heavy burden had been lifted off his shoulders.

As he stepped out of the revolving door of the office building, he saw Marcus standing at the entrance, apparently waiting for some time.

Marcus’s face showed a mix of anxiety and anticipation, clearly with something to say.

Last time, he had taken his Xrays and some medication from the hospital, and both Benson and Matthew had accompanied him to Marcus’s home.

During that visit, Marcus had cautiously asked him if he would consider agreeing to at divorce if Yvonne truly wanted it. Marcus even promised that no matter what conditions Yvonne proposed, he would do everything to help her achieve them.

He remembered responding indifferently, stating that he would wait until Yvonne personally requested a divorce before making a decision.

Today’s visiting lawyer, Robert, was renowned for his exceptional legal skills and

outstanding performance in divorce cases in Las Vegas.

With extensive practical experience, Robert was highly regarded for his calm judgment and keen insight.

Robert’s arrival undoubtedly added a professional and serious touch to this complex

divorce case, with each of his suggestions and strategies potentially influencing the final

outcome.

Marcus was here for answers. Standing at the office building entrance, his gaze was firm and direct, clearly here with a purpose.

Benson casually draped his coat over his arm, and the two stood facing each other in the cold wind for a while. Benson’s face showed no expression, but his eyes revealed a hint of unnoticeable fatigue.

“Shall we go up and talk?” Benson suggested, trying to move the conversation to a private setting.

“Here is fine,” Marcus refused, preferring to have the conversation in a public place.” Benson, will you get a divorce?” His question was straightforward, without any beating around the bush.

“No,” Benson’s response was equally direct and without hesitation.

Marcus was visibly surprised by this answer, his eyebrows raising slightly but quickly returning to calm.

He smiled lightly, with a hint of admiration in his tone: “She really is a very charming person, isn’t she?”

Benson did not respond immediately; his gaze drifted into the distance as if reminiscing about every moment spent with Yvonne.

His voice flowed slowly, filled with deep, affectionate memories: “Before getting to know her deeply, I didn’t think there was anything special about her. She’s beautiful, but there are many beautiful people in the world. One more or one less doesn’t make a difference.”

He paused for a moment and then continued: “But over time, I discovered that her inner beauty is as impressive as her outer beauty.

She is like a fascinating book, with each page full of surprises.

Her intelligence, independence, and resilience, every trait is captivating.

She isn’t someone you can understand at a glance; you need to read and experience her with your heart”

Listening to Benson’s doncription, Marcus’s expression gradually softened. He seemed to understand why Benson was so adamant about not getting a divorce. For Benson, Yvonne was not just a life partner but a soulmate he deeply cherished and wanted to protect.

“Yes,” Benson’s voice was firm and clear,

“Was she sad when Mary’s pregnancy was revealed?”

Benson was taken aback by Marcus’s question. He had waited for her call all night, only to realize that she didn’t care anymore and hadn’t asked if she was sad. “You don’t know,” Marcus observed Benson’s ssion. “Was she sad? Benson, I’m very disappointed, in you and in myself.”

These days, Marcus had thought a lot.

He thought, even if he couldn’t be with Yvonne anymore, it would be good if Benson could care for and love her.

Benson did care about her, but not enough. If Mary’s pregnancy had been handled properly, the lawyer wouldn’t have come.

Marcus’s words revealed deep frustration and disappointment. He looked at Benson, filled with questions and unease.

He knew that Mary’s situation was more than just a simple pregnancy; it involved deeper. emotions and responsibilities.

He hoped Benson would take it seriously, but he also realized that Benson’s attitude was not as firm and responsible as he had hoped.

Benson’s silence made Marcus more certain of his judgment. He realized he could no longer rely on Benson and could not entrust Yvonne’s happiness to him.

He decided to stand up himself and protect Yvonne in his way, even if it meant severing

ties with Benson.

Marcus’s mood was clouded with disappointment. Benson, whom he had once considered. a brother, seemed so unappreciative of the opportunity given to him.

And Marcus himself? Reflecting on his past, he saw that he had wasted too much time, achieved little in his career, and did not possess outstanding personal abilities.

Seeing her unhappy life, he felt helpless because he couldn’t take her away from Benson and give her the happiness she deserved.

“Benson, I once gave you a chance, and I also gave myself time to think it over.” Marcus’s voice was firm and powerful: “From today on, we are no longer brothers. I will protect her

in my way.”

His eyes revealed a determination without regret, “Rest assured, I will treat her well and never give you a chance to hurt her. That, I, Marcus, can absolutely guarantee.”
