Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David) -
Chapter 104
Chapter 104
“I’m concerned that this might be a fake,” Second Aunt, who was in the crowd, could not help butquestion. She raised her eyes and looked at Rachel Grey with a faint smile. “It’s understandable if thisis a gift from Miss Cruise, but if it’s from Miss Grey, then I’m afraid… I feel there is a need to questionit.”
The others murmured, “1.91 million dollars is not a small sum. I’m afraid Miss Grey has never seen somuch money in her life, right?”
“In my opinion, this doesn’t need to be appraised at all. It’s definitely a fake!”
Other than the guests who did not know Rachel’s identity, all of the members of the Smith family wereaware of Rachel’s identity.
She was just a country girl from a humble background. She was lucky enough to get into the Universityof Seaxas.
Otherwise, she would probably never have the chance to come to Seaxas in her life. She might evenspend her whole life in the countryside.
The stunned Jane Smith finally came back to her senses and said disdainfully, “Do you think suchantiques are easy to procure? It must be a fake!”
“Handing us fakes on this important occasion… She’s deliberately embarrassing us in front ofoutsiders!”
“If she doesn’t have money, so be it. Why is she being so pretentious? Now that she’s been exposed, Iwant to see what else she has to say!”
“As the saying goes, it is sincerity that matters most. No matter what, this is Miss Grey’s sincerity. I’mafraid Miss Grey is just inexperienced and isn’t aware of the shenanigans within the antique market, so
it’s reasonable for her to be deceived.”
Olivia Cruise was seemingly trying to help Rachel, but Olivia was, in fact, deepening the impressionthat Rachel had given Old Mr. Smith a “fake.”
The current Smith family was no longer the same as before. Although the Smith family could notcompare to the four top families in Seaxas, it was still one of the richest families.
Wealthy families in similar positions not only pursued power, but also cared about their reputation.
Meanwhile, Rachel had publicly presented a fake at Old Mr. Smith’s 80th birthday banquet. It wasundoubtedly a humiliation to both Old Mr. Smith and the Smith family.
Old Mr. Smith had invited rich and powerful families in Seaxas to his birthday banquet. If this matterwas spread, how could the Smith family face others in the future? Even if Old Mr. Smith was biasedtoward Rachel, he couldn’t protect her now, right? Olivia’s eyes flashed with imperceptible mockery. Now, Rachel had offended the entire Smith family. She wanted to see how this bitch would escape fromthis predicament! The guests present had different views. Since they were not implicated, they onlywatched the show as a bystander. They only secretly glanced at Old Mr. Smith, who was sitting in themain seat.
Ever since the pocket watch had been called out as a “fake,” the old man had remained silent with acalm expression, making it difficult to fathom his thoughts.
After a long time, he said calmly, “Child, I appreciate your kindness. I like this very much.”
Old Mr. Smith’s attitude stunned everyone present.
Initially, they thought that Old Mr. Smith would chase Rachel out in a fit of anger, or he would not treather as amiably as before. It was out of their expectations to see Old Mr. Smith not pursue the matter.
Rachel looked at the old man calmly. “It’s just something minor. What’s most important is that you likeit.”
“So, are you going to keep putting up an act until the end?” Jane glanced at Rachel with ridicule in hereyes, the corners of her mouth revealing a sneer. “You’re still being stubborn at this point! Do you thinkwe lack the know–how for discerning antiques?”
At this moment, someone in the crowd said, “Isn’t that simple? Just replace someone to appraise it. If it’sauthentic, we can prove this lady’s innocence. If it’s fake…”
“Miss Grey, if this is fake, you will have to smash the pocket watch, then kneel and apologize toGrandpa.”
