Chapter 443
The Johnson family people and Rachel arrived at the hospital early to wait. Everyone was called to theside of the bed by Old Mr. Johnson. He said as if he was making the arrangements before dying, “Tom,Adrian, I don’t have any requirements for you but to swear that no matter what danger you encounter inthe future, you have to protect Rae-Rae even if you have to risk your lives! Your sister passed awayearly. Rae-Rae is her only child. You have to protect her at all times!”
Tom and Adrian looked helpless, but under Old Mr. Johnson’s insistence, they had no choice but toswear.
Seeing the two of them swear, Old Mr. Johnson waved at Rachel. “Rae-Rae, do know what I want tosay?”

Rachel lowered her eyes to hide her expression. “Grandfather, what do you want to say?”
“Do you really not know?” Old Mr. Johnson’s eyes flashed with a meaningful smile. “I’m about to enterthe operating theater. Whether I can get off the operating table or not is up to fate. I hope you canpromise me that you won’t have anything to do with David Jones from now on. He’s not a good matchfor you!”
Rachel did not know how to answer for a moment.
Old Mr. Johnson saw the situation and sighed faintly. “Why are you so stubborn? You’re exactly thesame as your mother! See, I’m about to enter the operating theater. What if I can’t survive? Can’t youfollow my words and make me happy?” “There’s no what ifs,” Rachel said, “The operation will definitelygo smoothly.”
In the face of death, even Old Mr. Johnson, who had once dominated the business world, could nothelp but feel terrified.
He was worried that there would be an accident during the operation and was even more worried thathe would never wake up again.
“Grandfather, we’ll wait for you to come out.” Rachel held Old Mr. Johnson’s hand hard.
Old Mr. Johnson pursed his lips and took a deep breath. He looked at Rachel with a solemnexpression. “Alright, let’s have a good chat after the operation.”
“Okay.”
The operation lasted for three hours. Fortunately, the operation was successful.
When Old Mr. Johnson was pushed out of the operating theater, he was in a half-asleep state becausethe effects of the anesthetic had yet to dissipate.
Wharton walked to Rachel and said respectfully, “Miss Grey, Old Mr. Johnson, given his age, will be inintensive care for the next 24 hours, and when we make sure his vitals are stable, we’ll transfer him toa regular ward.”
“Thank you,” Rachel said.
Wharton smiled and waved his hand, “This is what I should do. If you have any problems, you cancontact me anytime.”
Rachel nodded and walked to the window of the intensive care unit. Through the glass, she looked atOld Mr. Johnson who was lying inside.
Then, her gaze involuntarily landed on the heart detector.
At this moment, only the numbers on it and the undulating curves made her feel
at ease.
Lucas, who was closest to her, sensed her nervousness. He stretched out his broad palm and wrappedit around her cold fingertips. “Don’t be nervous. Didn’t the doctor say that the operation was verysuccessful? Let’s go back first and come again tomorrow.”
Rachel glanced at him and hesitated for a moment before nodding.
In the parking lot, Lucas started the car. “Where are we going?”
Rachel shook her head. “You can make the arrangements.”
She was not in the mood now, and she wouldn’t be able to calm down when she went to the office. Shemight as well go out and get some fresh air.
The car shot out like an arrow. Rachel held her cheek with one hand and looked at the rapidlyretreating scenery outside the car window.
When she looked up, she noticed an inconspicuous black business car in the rearview mirror.
She narrowed her eyes and a cold glint appeared in her eyes
