Louis walked in awkwardly and nodded slightly. “Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Cruise.”

Judging from his expression, he must have heard their previous conversation.

However, Bertha did not look embarrassed after getting eavesdropped on. Instead, she looked at Louisself-righteously. “Why are you here?”

“My grandfather said that he hasn’t been feeling well recently. I’m afraid he can’t attend engagementceremony with Olivia…”.

Richard’s face fell immediately. “Louis, you and Olivia’s engagement is a big thing. Everyone will beunhappy if Old Mr. Smith can’t come personally.”

Pursing his lips, Louis was at a loss of words to explain.

Right then, Olivia stood up and walked to Louis’s side. She held his hand and looked at her ownparents. “Dad, Mom, this is just an engagement party. We will still have a wedding ceremony in thefuture. Even if Grandpa Smith doesn’t attend, other people are here to give us their blessings. Don’tmake things difficult for Louis over such a small matter.”

“Mr. and Mrs. Cruise, don’t worry. I won’t let Olivia suffer in the future,” Louis promised solemnly.

“I’ve raised you for nothing all these years! Who am I doing this for? It’s all for you!” Bertha pretendedto be angry and glared at Olivia. “No matter what, Old Mr. Smith is an elder in the family. How can henot participate? He clearly has a problem with you and refuses to acknowledge you as hisgranddaughter-in-law! If word gets out, you will become a laughing stock! Don’t you understand theimpact of being destroyed by gossip?”

However, Olivia smiled innocently and snuggled into Louis’s arms. “I don’t care about all this. Theperson I’m going to marry is Louis. As long as we can be together, I’m satisfied.”

“You!” Bertha knocked her head in exasperation. “How did I give birth to such a disappointing daughterlike you? I’m done with you!”

She snorted and turned to leave.

Richard smiled and tried to smooth things over. “Bertha doesn’t mean anything else. She only feelssorry for you. After all, you know how innocent she is.”

After the two left, only Olivia and Louis were left in the dressing room.

Olivia facepalmed herself and smiled sweetly at Louis.

Her smile broke Louis’s heart. He held Olivia’s hand and said, “Olivia, don’t worry. I will never let youdown in this life.”

“Of course, I know that.” Olivia stood on tiptoe and kissed him on the lips.

Coincidentally, Olivia’s phone rang at this moment. When she saw it was Marina calling, her eyesflickered with joy.

Suppressing her ecstasy and excitement, she picked up the phone. “Marina.”

“Olivia, I just got off the plane,” Marina explained in a lukewarm tone. “The cabinet meeting is about tobegin, so I’ll be away for a while. I can’t attend your engagement ceremony today, but I’ve sentsomeone to prepare a gift for you.”

The reason why Olivia insisted on asking Marina to participate in her wedding ceremony was nothingmore than to save her face in front of others.

“Don’t stand on ceremony with me.”

After a brief conversation, Olivia hung up.

“Olivia, I still have something on. I’ll step out for a while,” Louis said. Then, he turned around and leftwithout looking back.

When he walked out of the hotel to welcome the guests, he happened to see Rachel walking into thelobby.

“Rachel?”

A familiar voice sounded, and a look of disgust flashed across Rachel’s eyes. Looking up and seeingLouis’s face, her expression immediately turned cold.

“I didn’t expect you to come today.” Louis looked at Rachel in front of him, and a hint of joy crept intohis eyes.

He scanned Rachel from head to toe. He felt that Rachel was even more eye-catching today thanbefore.

Rachel was not as delicate as Olivia. She was dazzling and had an innate charisma. She had an aurathat could crush

everyone else present.

Her raised eyebrows bore a charm unknown to herself, but the coldness she exuded added a distantand cold temperament to her attracting face. She was seductive yet not unpleasing.

For a moment, Louis could not think of any words to describe her beauty.

Rachel’s lips curled into a mocking smile. “Why can’t I come?”

“I..”

“Rae-Rae, over here!” Before Louis could finish speaking, he was interrupted by Mary, who wasrunning over from afar.

She quickly ran to Rachel and glanced at Louis. Instantly, disgust washed over her face as if she hadseen unsightly trash.

The disdain on her face made Louis feel offended.

He frowned slightly. “Aren’t you here for me?”

Rachel sneered. “Mr. Smith, you think too highly of yourself.”

“Rachel?” Mrs. Smith’s voice came from behind.

When she saw Rachel appear, she instantly rushed to her in her high heels as if she was facing a greatenemy. “Why are you here? What are you trying to do? I’m warning you, today is Louis and Olivia’sengagement party. You’d better behave yourself, or the Smith family will never let you off!”

Rachel did not care about Mrs. Smith’s warning at all. She raised her eyes and glanced at Louisindifferently before saying, “Congratulations, your wish finally came true.”

Upon hearing this, Louis’s face fell. His thin lips pursed slightly, and his fists hanging by his sides couldnot help but tighten.

Rachel was too lazy to talk further to Louis. She followed Mary to the outdoor lawn at the back of thehotel.

Louis stood rooted to the ground as he watched the two leave. He vaguely heard Mary say, “Yulia isreally unlucky. She chose such an unlucky day.”

“You are right,” Rachel said lightly.

The two of them walked to the fountain and happened to meet a man in a white shirt.

When the man saw Rachel and Mary, he could not hide the joy on his face. “I was wondering why itwas shining so brightly here. So it’s because of you two beauties.”

“What are you doing here?” Rachel looked at the man in front of her.

Hanson approached them and naturally wrapped his arm around Rachel’s shoulder. “Of course, I’mhere to earn money to support you.”

“Speak properly. Don’t be so touchy.” Rachel coldly glanced at his arm.

“We haven’t seen each other for so long, and you’re still so strict.” Hanson pursed his lips and leanedcloser to Rachel. “It’s been quite some time since we met. Don’t you miss me at all? My arms havealways been open for you.”
