Paxton's POV

Clay took off as soon as everyone was in the SUV. I heard a roar of anger and knew that Jaxon was on his way. Too late for him. I already have his mate now. I hold all the cards and will have at least a week before he arrives at my door. According to our laws, the Council must first step in to mediate between packs. It has saved hundreds of lives in the last five years. It was the war at Black Adder that made them change the laws.

No matter how pissed off Jaxon is, he still has to abide by the law. Even if he pushed hard for them to move forward, I still have four days. By then, we will have already weakened them all from the pain of betrayal. Soon enough, they won't be so high and mighty anymore. I have felt the pain of betrayal myself, and it hurts. Lisa is a chosen mate, and it hurt pretty bad. I cannot imagine the pain level it will be for a true mate to cheat on you. Thankfully, that's not my problem.I was so happy to see Jana bring Cara over the wall. She looked stunning. I was intoxicated by her as I had never before seen her look quite this beautiful before. Hopefully, holding her on the plane will help. We can't stop. We have to load up quickly for the flight back. We won't be safe until we are in the air. They will have to scramble to get the Council out there, and then they have to prove what actually happened. That alone will take almost twenty-four hours. The Council will come to Kamaria to discuss what happened, unfortunately for them. I am on vacation and unavailable to speak to them at the moment.

No matter what, the Council won't approve an attack that could cost a hundred lives. I could hear Cara moan as she tried to wake up, and my erection, which just started to go down, came back with a vengeance. I was going to have to deal with Lena. She cost us too much time. They were coming right at us when we left. I could sense their proximity as I caught Jaxon's scent nearby.

Thankfully, we were ready to leave very quickly. Clay and Rex worked together as a team to get them into the back row of the SUV. I was actually glad that we had to pick up Jana and Anika, as I had wanted to speak to them privately. Jana was very effective as an enforcer. Lena had devised a good plan but then dropped the ball. She was letting others in on the plan when there was no need for her to have done so. She wanted an alibi, but she should have thought of that sooner.

I could see the airfield ahead, and I breathed a sigh of relief. I was glad that we were almost safe. Clay parked next to the hanger and threw the keys at the guy standing closest to him. "We were never here," Clay told him, and the guy quickly nodded in agreement, putting the keys into his pocket.

"You know what to do," I told Jana as she exited the back seat. I flipped the middle seat forward to take my prize from the third row. As I gently pulled Cara out of the SUV, I stopped for a moment to watch as the back of the SUV opened.

I smirked as Jana pointed over her shoulder with her thumb and said, "Run."

Lena's look of total fear made some of my frustration go away. Lena knew she couldn't outrun them for long. It was obvious what was about to happen. I walked away as Lena screamed and yelled at Jana and Anika. They never liked her anyway. They hated how she acted so entitled and like she was the boss. It didn't take much to talk them into handling this little problem for me. Lena was a liability that I didn't need anymore. She served her purpose. She got Cara back, but I wasn't planning on taking her back to my pack.

I made a deal with them. If they could handle a few problems for me, I would make sure they stayed safe in my pack. I could hear Lena's scream, filled with terror before everything went silent. I wasn't going to rush them, but I told them they had five minutes to deal with Lena before we would be taking off. We had just put the girls in the seats next to ours when they climbed up the jet's steps.

They looked the same. I just assumed that they would be a bloody mess. But I didn't smell blood on either of them. I did see a trickle next to Jana's mouth, but when she noticed me looking at her mouth, she put her tongue out to lick around. She licked up the blood and then smiled innocently. I had to hold back my shudder. That was not seductive. That was horrifying. They took their seats in the back after stowing their backpacks.

I didn't mind them sitting behind me. The way I looked at it, they were like my pets now-pets that I would send after anyone who crossed me. I had a lot of time to think on the trip here. I knew that she would never leave Cara alone, so Cara was safely held in my cells while the house was being completed. I will have them deal with Lisa next. I will wait until tomorrow night, as my terrifying new pets must be fed daily.

When we could move about the cabin, I unsnapped Cara's seat belt and lifted her onto my lap. She smelled heavenly, and I leaned down closer to take a deep breath. She is so perfect. I could stare at her face for hours. I nuzzled her neck and took in her scent for a while. I just realized that she had cut her hair and was wearing makeup. Cara had always been beautiful, but she was absolute perfection as I stared at her. I couldn't stop myself from leaning down and taking a kiss. It was just a quick peck on her lips, but it was enough. I wanted Cara to accept me fully before I went any further.

I knew that she was not receptive to my advances before. I think some of that could be that she felt guilty that I had a mate. Soon, I will be single again and take her as my chosen. Then my life will be perfect. The next minute, I noticed a mark on her neck. Smaller and more delicate than what a wolf's mark looks like. I was stunned to realize that she had accepted that parasite. Why? Why had she done that? She had other options. She could have had me, for Goddess's sake. I knew she didn't want to be a mistress, but to me, she was my world. She was never, and would never, be second to Lisa.

Lisa was the third party, as far as I was concerned. It does not matter. I will remark Cara. Giving her my own mark once Lisa is dealt with. I could tell that both Jana and Anika liked the thrill of the chase as much as they enjoyed getting to feed. I will have to ensure they know to leave Kamaria and replace some rogues to kill. We had some in the forest; they usually didn't bother us, but they smelled terrible and were annoying. They killed animals in the woods where we hunted. So I won't mind them dealing with them for a while.

I leaned back in my chair and pulled Cara's limp body into my chest. I loved being this close to her. I closed my eyes and pretended that we were a mated couple. Things were so much easier with Cara not trying to fight me every step of the way. I glanced over at Rex, and he was doing the same thing. Looking like he won a prize as he looked down at Brenna. Clay was not content to just hold Luna, and I had to clear my throat.

I had already told him that he was not to touch Luna inappropriately. But I saw his hand sliding up her leg. He stopped, but I almost felt sorry for Luna now. He is like a tiger, ready to pounce on her. I doubt he will even get her ready to take him. Clay has always played rougher than we did. We slept around, but the girls that Rex and I were with were always down for another round. Not like Clay, who was what they mockingly call "One shot Charlie," as none of them was willing to sleep with him again. He needs to love and appreciate her if he wants to win her over. I won't allow him to do anything else to her.

The stress of the night was catching up with me, and I wanted to sleep. I haven't been sleeping very well lately, but I didn't want to close my eyes, as I knew Clay would continue with what he had been doing. Jana came forward and sat in the seat across from Clay. She hadn't said a word, but from his posture, he knew that she was there to babysit him. Yes, having Jana and Anika around would be good for the pack. Despite them being vicious, they are also highly intelligent. The best part was they were willing to listen.

I will make sure to protect them, and after I deal with Lisa, I will revisit changing up my Beta, too. Luna will still be happy living with her sisters, even if she is kept away from her mate. It can't be helped. We had a deal, but if Clay is going to try to be a creeper all the time, I just can't allow that to happen. It will upset Cara, and I can't allow Clay to ruin everything as soon as I get her back.

I want Cara to be happy, and a willing participant in a relationship with me. If she fights me or waits too long, I will get the same thing that Lisa dosed me with to use on her and her sisters. I was happy at the time with being with Lisa after she drugged me. That was until I woke up the next morning. But I don't want to have to do that to Cara. Making Cara happy is my first priority. I am sure she will be mad at me for taking her away from that bloodsucker for about a week. But honestly, I am not unattractive. Plenty of she-wolves want to be with me.I will let Cara know just how much I care about her. How much I want her to be my mate and bear my pups. Soon, I will make her forget anything having to do with that vampire. One day, we will look back on this as just a bump in the road. I knew the power I wielded when I went after someone. No she-wolf has ever been able to resist me when I set my sights on them. Cara will fall in line soon enough. I smiled as I held Cara and caught a quick nap. Everything is finally looking up for me.
