Between Heaven and Hell
CHAPTER ELEVEN

"JONATHAN! Do you really think I would stop pestering you? You are wrong! I can possess your body anytime, anywhere, and you can't do anything about it!" she told him as he walked away. He halted from walking and turned in her direction.

"Then do it," he challenged her. "The next time you enter my body without permission, Oreo will ask Agatha to perform an exorcism. That would definitely get rid of you... for good."

Was he serious about it? Did she push her luck too hard?

"W-where would I go after the exorcism?" she asked nervously.

Jonathan shrugged. "How would I know? I've never been there."

She screamed out of frustration. Her emotion was so high the wind howled and swirled like that of a storm.

"Hey, stop it!" said Jonathan.

But she did not listen to him. She continued screaming. Others might think the campus was being hit by a tornado. But no, it was an energy coming from her. She was not aware that she has that amount of power when mad. "Stop, okay! I will help you. Just stop!"

There, Jonathan said the magic word. She stopped immediately.

"Really?" She was happy to hear that. "You can't back off now, Jonathan. Because if you do, you will pay the price."

"Just so you know, I am not that type of person who backs off." He put on his helmet and got on his motorbike.

"Oh, I see. You are a man of honor. I like that." She giggled. "Anyway, are you going home?"

"No, I still have to go to work." He started his motorbike's engine.

"Ah, yes... the café. Can I ride with you?"

"Why ride with me when you can fly and teleport from one place to another?" Then he sped away.

"Jonathan!" she groaned.

Now that he left her there, she has no choice but to teleport to the café.

Jonathan was already on his duty when she arrived. She decided to stay in a corner and watch him do his job.

HE looked at the corner and saw the wandering soul still patiently waiting for his shift to end. Behaving like a good student, it floats just behind his boss, who was busy with her craft.

"Stop looking this way. It annoys me," said his boss.

Jonathan turned his gaze away when she looked up. Good thing a customer came.

"Hi," he greeted. "What's your order, Ma'am?" Jonathan tried to be as cheerful as possible.

"Ah... I am not familiar with the names of your drinks. Can you recommend me your best seller?"

"Are you in love or broken?" his boss chimed in.

"Ahm..." The customer smiled faintly at Jonathan.

"Our recommendation is base on how you are feeling today," he explained.

"Oh! Well, my boyfriend and I broke up recently."

"Then I recommend you one of our best sellers, tea of oblivion."

"Okay, I'll have that one to go."

He processed the order.

The customer left, and again, the café was empty. Jonathan leaned on the counter and turned his gaze on the corner once again. His eyes immediately widened when he saw the wandering soul playing with his boss's hair. He panicked. He did not know how to make it stop without being noticed. Jonathan decided to come over.

"W-would you like something to drink?" he asked, beckoning the wandering soul to stop what it was doing.

"Don't disturb me. I'm busy," his boss said without raising her head. "Go back to the counter, Jonathan." "O-oh, okay..." He walked backwards.

"Hey!"

He straightened his back when his boss raised her head. "Y-yes?"

"Turn down the air-conditioning unit's temperature. Damn, it's so cold." She went back to work.

Jonathan sighed. If she only knew it was not the air-conditioning.

PLAYING with Jonathan's boss's hair was not intentional at all. It just that she could not help herself because she got fond of it. She was having fun, but she had to stop when she saw Grimmy standing just outside the café. She had a bad feeling about it.

She rushed outside the café and approached the grim reaper.

"What are you doing here?" she asked.

"Work," he replied shortly.

"Is it Jonathan?" Her eyes widened. "No, not today, Grimmy. I beg you." Not when he just said yes to helping her. And then she thought of something. "I am going to enter his body so I could save him from death."

"Yeah, your idea was brilliant. You amaze me. Of course, he won't die if you're inside his body because you will be trapping his soul in there." The grim reaper cocked his head. "You may save his life today, but death will always come for him. And oh, just a little piece of advice. For every action, there's a consequence. Delaying Jonathan's death won't do you good..."

"W-what do you mean by that?"

"You're too smart for a spirit. Soon, you'll figure it out."

The grim reaper disappeared.

"So, this is how our story goes, me and Jonathan against the grim reaper..."

She needs to do her best to protect Jonathan, or all her past efforts to convince him would go to waste. There is no way she would wait another year or more just to replace someone who could replace him. She turned in the direction of the café. Jonathan was busy taking orders again.

"I'm sorry, Jonathan. I know you will get mad at me for doing this, but I have to enter your body again, even without your permission. It's the only way I know to keep you alive."

She flew back to the café and entered Jonathan's body.

"Hey, wait. Ahm, I'd like to change my order," a female customer went to the counter after she successfully took over his body.

"Your order's already being processed. I'm afraid we couldn't change it now," she explained.

"But I don't really like the first one, you know. It was a mistake," the customer scowled at Jonathan.

Ah... I hate this kind...

"Your mistake, not ours," she told the customer calmly.

"Then if you're not gonna change my order, give me a damn refund!"

She flinched with the sudden snarling.

This annoying piece of...

"Hey..." She scoffed and drew Jonathan's hair backwards. "Don't act as if you're someone who's entitled to something. You're not even the Queen of England's granddaughter!" "You-Where's your manager? I'd like to talk to your manager-"

"Look over here!" Jonathan's boss yelled from the corner.

She stood up and sauntered towards the counter with her arms crossed above her chest.

"Are you the manager?" the customer gave her a one-over.

It looked like the customer was doubting her. Jonathan's boss was only dressed in pajama bottom and a plain purple V-neck shirt. Her hair was a mess, and there was a pen tucked behind her ear. "Right. Since I am the one present here, therefore I am the manager. Ah, I am also a shareholder and the wife of the boss. Do you want to hear more?" The lady boss cocked her head. "I don't wanna hear more. What I want is a refund," said the customer.

"Jonathan, why did this customer want a refund?" Her gaze turned in his direction.

"She wanted to change her order, but I refused since it was already being processed," she explained.

"Here in our café, we'll only give you a refund if it's our mistake. And hearing my employee's explanation, I don't see any mistake on our end."

"I can't believe this! This place sucks! I will tell everyone I know that you have poor service here!" The customer stormed out of the café.

"That insolent-" The boss tapped Jonathan on his shoulder.

"This is not the first time that you'll encounter someone like her. Just don't mind her."

"I'm sorry. I provoked her, that's why she acted that way. Please... don't fire Jona-I mean me."

I just want to save him... But trouble keeps coming at me...

"Don't worry. I won't fire you," his boss said and smiled.
