Between Heaven and Hell
CHAPTER THIRTEEN

JONATHAN has no classes that day, but he had to go to school for his community service. He needs to sweep the entire university park and the soccer field in hot weather. And that was all because of her. She was thinking of the best way to make it up with him since yesterday, but she hasn't come up with one until now.

"Hey, Jonathan!" She went to his side.

He stopped for a while and turned to her with a knotted forehead, then he resumed what he was doing. Was it his way to torment her? To make her feel guilty? Well... he won because she was indeed feeling bad about it.

Minutes passed by like an eternity. Yes, it felt that long for her because Jonathan kept acting as if he did not see nor hear her at all. She was puzzled why he was suddenly acting that way towards her. She thought they were on good terms now that they already had an agreement.

She could not take it anymore.

She summoned her strength and circled the whole soccer field, creating that little tornado that gathered all the dry leaves at the center.

"Stop it, Momo!" Jonathan said authoritatively.

"Why? Aren't you happy that I am helping you with this? Besides, I was the one who caused this trouble."

"Someone's coming this way." His lips pointed in the opposite direction. "I don't want anyone to see what you're doing and think that I'm doing some kind of magic."

She did what she was told and laughed. Then a group of female students who walked past them caught her attention. She hovered above the girls as they walked away from the soccer field and went back to where Jonathan was standing afterwards.

"Why?" Jonathan asked when she came back to his side. He must have noticed her behavior.

"I don't know why, but I always replace myself fascinated with a group of friends like them. Do you think I have friends like that? Do they miss me now that I am gone?" she said somberly.

"If you're a good friend, I guess they're missing you a lot."

"What do you think of me, Jonathan? Am I good or bad?" If she has a physical body, her heart would be beating like crazy right now.

He shrugged. "I don't know. It's not that long since I've met you."

"Then we should get to know each other."

"They, why don't you show me your face first?" He sneered.

"You know what, I don't even hide it from you. But I don't know why you couldn't see my face."

"Really?"

"Yeah. Hurry up and finish this now, Jonathan. You still have to go to work. After that, you have to help me with the search operation." She flew away. "Momo!"

Jonathan's call made her come back.

"Yes?"

"Where are you going?"

"I'm going to meet someone. I'll see you at the café later, `kay?"

"Do spirits go on a date too?" He looked up as if he could replace the answer to the clouds above.

She blew his cheek, teasing him. "No."

Jonathan caressed his cheek. "That was cold-wait! Did you just kiss me?"

"And why would I do that?"

"I don't know. Maybe you're a ghost with a virginity grudge or something."

"If I were alive, I would not waste my time falling for a mediocre type like you." She looked at him from head to toe. "You don't even have six-pack abs." He touched his stomach. "Do I really need that?"

"No, if you're planning to stay celibate for the rest of your life."

Jonathan narrowed his eyes on her. "Who told you that?"

"Oreo."

He groaned. "That's... Delete it from your memory."

"Don't be ashamed of it, Jonathan. We all have our preferences. It's not even a crime."

"YOUR lady boss..."

He looked to his left. Momo was floating beside him since she came to the café. Rico was not on duty that day, so it was safe for her to be around. "What about her?" he asked and turned his gaze on the corner table, his boss' favorite spot.

"I am feeling something towards her... like some kind of attachment. Do you think we know each other?"

"I don't know," he said in a low tone.

"Should we ask her?"

Jonathan shook his head. "No, not when she's focused like that. You wouldn't like it when my boss is annoyed." "Is that so?"

"Hm..."

"I wish time could fly so fast." He looked at her. "Ah! Do you have Wi-Fi here?"

"Yes. But I can't use my phone while I am on duty," he told her.

"Then, I have no choice but to wait patiently." Momo sounded like a bored teenager.

"You should have spent more time with that someone before coming here," Jonathan mumbled.

"I wasn't able to see Grimmy today."

"Grimmy?" His brows drew together.

"The grim reaper. I call him that because it kinda creeps me out to address him as the grim reaper."

"Oh, really?" Jonathan started organizing the bottles of syrups.

"Why do you sound like you're jealous of him?" Momo asked and popped in front of him.

He waved his hand dismissively. "Don't bother me when I'm busy."

"You're not even busy," she countered.

"Can't you see that I am organizing the syrups?"

"Well, it seems to me that you're disorganizing them so that you can organize them."

"Jonathan, is there something wrong?" his boss asked.

"Nothing. I'm just having a monologue."

He shook his head. His boss almost caught him talking like an idiot.

MOMO was floating back and forth in the living room when Jonathan got home. He expected that since she could teleport from one place to another. He plopped down on the sofa and removed his shoes. "What took you so long? I've been waiting here for almost an hour now."

Jonathan headed to his room to get his laptop.

"I'm human, Momo. Unlike you, I get stuck in a traffic jam."

She flew towards him that made him stepped backward.

"Really?" She sounded like she did not believe in him.

"Why don't you see it for yourself?" he challenged her.

"I wish I could."

He sauntered towards the sofa and turned on his laptop. Jonathan opened his university's webpage and navigated to its online community. His finger started scrolling as his eyes scanned the students' posts. "Do you think we can get something out of it?" asked Momo, who was now floating behind him.

"Oreo said that everything that happened inside the campus is here. Maybe we can replace a lead." "Does it have an obituary?"

"I don't know. But maybe there's a tribute or something?" Jonathan kept on scrolling.

"Can you jump to the post made five years ago?" Momo requested.

He did what he was told. But he could not replace anything.

She heard Momo sighed afterwards.

"Why?" he asked.

"You're right, Jonathan. This is hard... harder than I thought."

"This is just the start. You have a long way to go, Momo."

Jonathan stares at the human-shaped smoke that was now beside him. If he could only hug Momo to comfort her. But all he could do now is to shower her with words of encouragement. "It may be a tough journey, but I am here," he told her.
